Weird. An ad for "Chasin' Girls" and it got a review in this week's Country Weekly. (And where did Chris Neal go? He's not doing the album/single reviews anymore.)

According to today's edition of Country Aircheck, Carrie Underwood will be making her acting debut on 'How I Met Your Mother'; the episode is scheduled to air in March.
She'll play a pharmaceutical sales rep, and a possible love interest for Josh Rednor, who plays 'Ted' on the hit CBS sitcom.

Fresh from torch run, Twain to interview queen, perform for studentsBefore Shania Twain goes to the mike for "American Idol" later this month, the country star on Friday will grab a Canadian Broadcasting Corp. radio mic in Toronto to interview Queen Rania of Jordan, it was announced today by the station. Twain is to guest host the CBC's "The Current" radio show and is slated to ask the Jordanian queen about her global charity for underprivileged youth, 1Goal. Rania is often considered one of the most powerful women in the world and has been active internationally in promoting suffrage for women and education through UNICEF. Twain recently attended a conference held in New York City, sponsored by Rania, that raised money for charities supporting women in Third World Countries. Twain, who experienced childhood poverty growing up in northern Ontario, as part of her radio gig will also visit an inner-city Toronto school to perform for students and preach help for young talent. Twain last week carried the Olympic torch in front of thousands in her hometown of Timmins, Ontario, ahead of the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, which kick off Feb. 12. Keith Urban has stirred up a bit of a firestorm with his acceptance speech at last night's People's Choice Awards. The Music Row website posted this open letter to him: On Wednesday night (1/6), on the People’s Choice Awards, Keith Urban won the award for Favorite Male Artist. In his acceptance speech, he stated, “I don’t even care if you download it (my music) illegally, give it to your friends, I really don’t care.”
I think it is appalling for one our biggest and brightest stars to openly encourage people to break the law by downloading music illegally.
Urban and wife, Nicole Kidman, likely have millions of dollars. And, he probably won’t miss the royalties when people steal his music. However, I wonder what his label, Capitol Records Nashville, has to say about his statement? And what about his co-writers and other songwriters on Music Row whose talents he depends on to continue with his hugely successful career? Can they afford to work for free?
While other artists such as Madonna, Elton John, Eminem, Sheryl Crow, Jay Z, Lenny Kravitz and other superstars from all genres are speaking out for the rights of songwriters, Keith Urban, in one short statement, sent out a strong message to potentially millions of young listeners around the world – that music is free for the stealing. He “really don’t care.”
I manage and promote songwriters and their record labels who offer free legal downloads of their songs in major publications and on the web in efforts to help promote their careers. But that is their choice. They have given their permission.
Our community of songwriters – and the world music industry at large – have been devastated by the proliferation of illegal downloading and file-sharing. The last thing that we need is for one of our most popular artists to promote the practice.
I think Keith Urban should rethink his position and apologize for his statements – or start giving away tickets to his shows.
Music is owned by the creators – and they should get paid for it. It is not free. We all depend on it for our living.

I think the person who wrote that article (letter?) really overreacted. I think it's pretty obvious that Keith wasn't promoting illegal downloading; I think he was just saying thanks to his fans, even the ones who do illegally download.

I think the person who wrote that article (letter?) really overreacted. I think it's pretty obvious that Keith wasn't promoting illegal downloading; I think he was just saying thanks to his fans, even the ones who do illegally download. That is almost certainly what Keith meant. But he probably should have considered the feelings of the songwriters who contribute to his albums and albums by other musicians. Their livelihoods do depend on the legal purchase of music, and it is no surprise that an artist saying that he is indifferent to illegal downloads would rankle many an observer. I'm sure Keith meant well, it just seems to me that he didn't quite think that remark through. In other news, this is huge news to me, and it was buried so deep inside an HDD article that I would have missed it if not for the very sharp eye of a good friend: Columbia’s momentum will likely get a further spike in the spring with the return of two of the three Dixie Chicks—sisters Marti McGuire and Emily Robison—who’ll release an album and go out on tour. Natalie Maines hasn’t left the band, but she’s said to be enjoying motherhood and living in Hawaii too much to go back to work just yet. The group’s last album, released in May 2006, debuted with 526k and went on to sell 2.46m…As someone who has been longing for new DCX music, it's a bit of a punch in the gut to know that Natalie won't be part of the newest offering, but it is encouraging to know that the band is still together. I am very excited to hear what Emily and Martie put together.

That's great news! A long while back I read Martie was doing a solo album, but I guess that developed into something different. I wonder if it'll be an instrumental album, since Natalie's not going to be appearing, or if Martie and Emily will take turns taking the lead. I wonder if there will be any official announcements coming soon; with the new year just starting up I would expect something from them.

Natalie's voice defined the band. I'm not sure DCX will see as much success without Maines.
DCX minus Natalie = just another talented country festival side-show.
This is BAAD news as far as I'm concerned.

Marti and Emily are very talented musicians. I'm sure they're not aiming for commercial success, so I don't see how this is bad news.

Marti and Emily are very talented musicians. I'm sure they're not aiming for commercial success, so I don't see how this is bad news. There are tons of talented instrumentalists in country music but DCX in their former incarnations weren't doing great commercially until Maines joined the fold--that's when they really took off(Wide Open Spaces Era onwards). But yeah,I meant bad in terms of replicating their former success and bad personally for me since I'm addicted to Natalie's voice and they just won't sound the same for me minus her beautiful distinctive pipes.

And that Martie and Emily album will be released under a new name, or will they still be the Dixie Chicks?

Here is the Academy of Country Music's press release announcing Reba as this year's awards show host for the twelfth time, and also the taping of Brooks & Dunn: The Last Rodeo, a TV special à la the George Strait tribute last year, with confirmed performers Kenny Chesney, Reba, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban, to air on a later date on CBS. The ACM Awards will air live on CBS on Sunday, 18 April. www.rbr.com/tv-cable/tv-programming/19868.htmlReba McEntire to host Country Music’s Party of the Year
Country Music's Party of the Year®, the 45TH ANNUAL ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS, will be broadcast live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Sunday, April 18 (8:00-11:00 PM, live ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network. The awards show honoring country music's top talent and the industry's hottest emerging talent, will be hosted by music, film and television legend Reba McEntire. In addition, the Academy will tape an all-star concert special, ACM PRESENTS: BROOKS & DUNN – THE LAST RODEO, at the same location the following night to air at a later date on CBS. Both shows are produced for television by dick clark productions.
McEntire, who will host for the 12th time, has won 12 Academy of Country Music Awards, including the first-ever annual Academy of Country Music/The Home Depot Humanitarian Award for outstanding philanthropic work. This will be the fifth year the ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS will be based at the MGM Grand and the eighth year the show will be held in Las Vegas. Nearly 15 million viewers tuned into last year's Awards, a 21% increase over the previous year.
"No one does it better than Reba McEntire," said Orly Adelson, President of dick clark productions and executive producer of the Awards. "She always brings spunk and personality to the show and we are honored to have the queen of country music back to host the Awards for the 12th time."
Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn of Brooks & Dunn, the bestselling duo in the history of country music, will receive the Academy's Milestone Award in recognition of their 20-year record-breaking career during the tribute concert special, ACM PRESENTS: BROOKS & DUNN – THE LAST RODEO. They will be honored for holding the record for most wins by any artist in the Academy's history with 26 awards in total, including three Entertainer of the Year awards. They will also be honored for holding the record for most Top Vocal Duo wins, with 15 awards, eight of which are consecutive from 2000 through 2007.
Artists already scheduled to perform at the taping of ACM PRESENTS: BROOKS & DUNN – THE LAST RODEO include superstars Kenny Chesney, Reba McEntire, Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban, with many others to be announced soon.
Brooks & Dunn have had 23 number one hits, sold more than 30 million records and won more than 80 major industry awards during their career. In August 2009, they announced they would retire as a duo in 2010 and embark on a final farewell tour this summer called "The Last Rodeo."
"Brooks & Dunn have defined country music for 20 years," said Bob Romeo, Executive Director of the Academy of Country Music. "With this all-star concert tribute, the Academy is honored to recognize Kix and Ronnie for their contributions to the country music industry, fans and to all the artists they have helped get a break in this business."
Founded in 1964, the ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC is an artist and industry-driven organization, providing the financial resources to ensure the on-going philanthropic work of ACM Lifting Lives, the charitable arm of the Academy which works to improve lives through music. The Academy is comprised of more than 3,800 professional members and is headquartered in Encino, Calif.
Both the 45TH ANNUAL ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS and ACM PRESENTS: BROOKS & DUNN – THE LAST RODEO are produced for television by dick clark productions. Orly Adelson and R.A. Clark are executive producers, Barry Adelman is producer and Bob Bardo is executive in charge of production.

Thanks. I was kind of hoping that Reba would relinquish the hosting duties. She was better last year than the couple of years before but she's done it long enough.
The B&D special should be nice.
