Personally, I would like to have seen a sixth country single from Fearless, (could happen yet) either "Forever And For Always" which she premiered on the CMA awards last year ... I'm keeping you forever and for always / we will be together all of our days / I wanna wake up every morning to your sweet face / I'm keeping you forever and for always Oh wait..

...It went top 10 on country. That isn't a flop. It's not like she had a streak of number 1 singles that she broke with this or something. Not to mention, this is single #... ?? I don't even know how many she has had at country with this album. I'm assuming fifth or sixth maybe? A top 10 showing on her core format with a single this late in the game is fantastic.

^ It is a flop by the album's standards. Carrie Underwood's fifth single from Carnival Ride, an album that has sold around 3 million copies, went to #1 on mediabase and #2 on Billboard. The single preceding that went to #1 on both and it had 2 weeks at #1. I have to say, Taylor isn't strong on country radio. I think they should just end this era on this single and start strong with a new era this fall.

Thanks for bringing up the Carrie info! That really brings a lot to the conversation!
This is by no means a flop. Maybe, if this didn't make top 10, then you could talk about a flop. But how can you call a 5th single which makes the top 10 a flop?

But how can you call a 5th single which makes the top 10 a flop? It's a flop in the industry's eyes, considering the ginormous success of LS and YBWM, and considering she had the top selling album of the year last year and a tour that has sold out across the country. Singers like that don't usually drop singles that only peak Top 10

kellie pickler must be an epic flop if she cant even go top 10 What does Kellie Pickler have to do with this? Her success hasn't been nearly that of Taylors and her albums haven't even sold a million copies. The demand for the type of music she makes and the fact that her label barely promotes her, combined, lead to her low album sales. The only reason she was able top keep her album sales fairly consistent was because she consistently had Top 20 country singles and she opened for Taylor's 'Fearless' tour. For her singles to go Top 20 or Top 15 on Country radio is pretty damn good, considering the fact most of her songs are played on radio MONTHS before they peak on the charts AND the fact that country music will still play her songs even though she's only had one Top 10 hit

kellie pickler must be an epic flop if she cant even go top 10 Kellie has had one Top 10 hit, "Best Days Of Your Life" and I don't think that having a string of Top 20 hits as being a flop at all.

Well stated Mike. I'd like to add to the discussion. As for the Carrie info, she doesn't have as much crossover appeal as Taylor has so country radio will continue to gobble up her singles. In various threads (seems like we've been talking about it all over the place), posters have discussed the possibility of overexposure to Taylor Swift, and the more I think about it, the more that's possible. Carrie isn't in that situation. And, Carrie's 5th single from her album was a cover of a legendary Randy Travis hit, "I Told You So", and of course a Carrie version was going to get a huge amout of airplay. Taylor's 5th single from her album was the title track "Fearless", which wasn't anything new from her and that's now what the fans and critics want. Combine that with the fact that her audience, I'm sure loads of teenagers, jumped all over the tracks from the Fearless album and got them to high positions on the hot 100 as digital singles, so...perhaps the songs had already worn out their appeal a bit by the time they got to country radio. "Love Story" was an obvious smash, and "You Belong With Me" was the 2nd uptempo, and very original, so it did extraordinary on the heels of Taylor's recent success. I think Taylor should stay quiet until September or so, then release the lead single to her upcoming album. Hopefully she still has some of her own songs on her new album, but I'd like her to sing songs written by others as well. To sum it up, I think you could say a #10 peak for Fearless was a bit disappointing, but by no means a flop.

I'll admit that #10 by most artists is considered a major success, but by Taylor's standards is probably considered a flop. I'm really disappointed by this result, because I truly feel like Fearless is a #1 song. Had it been released as the 1st or 2nd single, I'm sure it would have reached #1.

What I would love to see Swift do is to hire a vocal coach so her live performances sound better. She did turn 20 this past December and something she should be doing at this time is to write songs that actually showing her maturing in life. Let's face it, she has grown right in front of us during the past four years. If she were to put a Fifteen type song on the next CD, it would be out of place (to say the least). I understand the general point you're trying to make, but this criticism over Fifteen (I've seen it a couple of other places, as well) really makes me scratch my head and wonder if people actually listen to lyrics, as opposed to making a snap judgment based on the title. I'd argue Fifteen, outside of White Horse, might be the most mature song Swift has ever had. It wouldn't be out of place for someone in their 30s to sing it. It's about reflection. Now, You Belong With Me and songs like that... I'd agree.
