oh yeah, infact madonnas label was going out w/the whole thing, they were promoting madonnas album in 85' saying something along the lines that this year madonna will give Cyndi a run for her money reminds me of that ad that was promoting gagas album back in october of 08' "Christina copied gagas style at the vmas, buy gagas album" wtf

Probably the Year-End Country charts are playing Taylor songs to death. I'm curious how much Love Story went up this week

As for the Cyndi/Madonna thing, you can only say someone "ripped off" someone else's style if they saw that person's style and then copied it. Not sure how Madonna could have foreseen the future of Cyndi Lauper. I miss having other Madonna fans around. I'm like the last one left or something. A typical club bill from around 1980 would be "Blue Angel! Sebastian! The Breakfast Club! Ladies pay no cover after 11pm!" Cyndi was the lead singer of Blue Angel, club monster of the 70's, signed to Polydor, etc. Madonna was TCB's drummer.

3. LADY GAGA - Bad Romance = 92.531 (+ 0.545) 4. KESHA - Tik Tok = 92.012 (+ 0.972)
I hope Ke$ha wont block Gaga from #1.

Taylor's gains can also be attributed to the fact that she's #1 on AC radio and all songs on AC are gaining like crazy because they've stopped playing Xmas songs.
Re the Madonna discussion - fact of the matter is that everyone gets inspiration from somewhere. Very few if any big trends in music or fashion just come out of the blue. Madonna is no different. Certainly Madonna should be given credit for owning the styles she chose to take up, but like everyone else she picks and chooses from a world of music and style already out there.

^Yes- and as said, she took into directions that others didn't. She hardly was the first sexy pop star, but she took that and played it up to push those famous buttons that she did, in a wide area of cultural issues. She and Cyndi are on good terms- at one point, Cyndi seemed down on her (possibly because Madge eclipsed her rather quickly), but has come around. They'e both great acts in their own right.
Will The Chipettes have to settle for bubbling under this week? :)

Fun Madonna/Cyndi fact: Like A Virgin and True Colors were both written by the legendary Billy Steinberg.

Jason Aldean now has two songs exceeding the one million mark. Who would've thought he would become country's male best selling single-artist?

Without knowing exact airplay numbers for a couple, this is an idea of how the top 10 should look, without streaming:
1. Tik Tok 2. Replay 3. Bad Romance 4. Fireflies 5. Empire State of Mind 6. Whatcha Say 7. Down 8. Party in the USA 9. Do You Remember 10. Sexy Chick
Adjustments? "Meet Me Halfway" is close to the #10 spot. And then "Bedrock" thereafter.

2008 was the first year where the Christmas #1 sold less than the prior year. 2009 puts us back on track, so to speak. In 2010 may be difficult to beat '09 since Christmas falls on a Saturday.
I believe D4L sold around 167k?

"I Will Always Love You" sold 632,000 in late 1992- so Whit still maintains the 18-year SoundScan record for highest female singles sales in a week. No doubt that could be broken at some point.
I doubt any "normal" title will catch "Candle in the Wind 1997"- 3 million+ in a single week.

BTW interesting that the digital chart credits Kesha on "Right Round," although that chart doesn't always match the credits on the Hot 100.

I was just looking at the numbers, and man Alicia didn't see a huge boost for any of her singles. TSWABH will drop on the Hot 100 for sure.

Year over year digital sales growth is slowing, at some point "a new record" during Christmas week won't be a given
Whether it is highest sales by a female or highest sales by <insert category here>
