Damn it's amazing how IGAF just won't die!!! I really thought everyone who wanted that song would have had it by now! Six months later and people are still sitting around and deciding that now's the time they want to download it? I've heard of longevity but this song defies everything... I don't even understand what's so great about it? You hear it to death on the radio, and I guess those who don't listen to radio and are just hearing it now somehow are about six months late on the ball? Same goes for Party in the usa, back in the top 10, really ??? I bought it in the summer but I was happy to see it falling down the charts to give others a chance to rise higher and then this week comes. lol.

Thanks Chart attack.
Jay Sean has 2 songs in the Top 10. When last did a British artiste have 2 songs in the Top 10 at the same time?

Whitney has the power to turn a cover into her own, tour-de-force track- she's done it several times. I mean, this is the woman who took "The Star Spangled Banner" to the top 20 and then to the top 10 a decade later- yes, both instances involved trying times (Persian Gulf War, 911), but direct me to a better rendition of the USA national anthem. Didn't think so. :) Jimi Hendrix - Woodstock version Everything else is second rate

And those were physical copies, not downloaded songs. Meaning people actually had to go to the store and purchase them. Makes it an even more impressive feat.

23-20 Two Is Better Than One - Boys Like Girls 30-25 Fifteen - Taylor Swift
Yay a new T20 featured hit (+ 11 solo T20's I believe), and a rise for Fifteen...I still hope for T20 peak. YBWM back to T20.

Well, yeah, Hendrix is a tough act to follow. But, yes, every other attempt was second rate by comparison, especially among female acts.

It is just now Christmas, NEXT WEEK is the week after Christmas The confusion may be that this thread is posted WAY too early 1/9/10 is for the chart week ending this Sunday #1 has been in the upper 100s low 200s all year long. I doubt it will jump tp 450K because it is Ke$ha 1 1 KE$HA TIK TOK 610069 175 221493 2048354 IT seems as though everyone here gets a lot of pleasure from seeing 2m's predictions proven wrong...

Oh well, Britney's out of the top ten. I'm still pressed at how Down and PITUSA are doing, and getting back inside the top ten.

Going by last years' numbers, next week most songs will have a decrease of between 29-51% in the sales of the top 50, with the most popular songs (like the I'm Yours of Jason Mraz) having one of as low as 15%. PS: in the new year I will try to participate in this forum more often

No, colson- Madge hasn't done the "National Anthem" thing" in her career as of yet. But if she did, I have a feeling Whitney's still would be tops. :)
Outside of "Candle in the Wind 1997," I don't think another physical single besides "I Will Always Love You" has topped 630K in a single week in the SoundScan era- though I'm not 100% on that one. Even looking at digital singles, "Right Round" would be the only other single in the SoundScan era to crack that amount (if indeed no other physical one has).

And back in 1993, singles were $2.99+. Not the 99 cents-$1.29 today.

Some labels (more than others) marked singles down to less than $2.99+ at certain instances, but that probably didn't take shape until 1995 or so.

How much did Loverboy sell in it's first week? I know 'Bootylicious' topped it, but since it was really cheap I think it sold a sizeable amount that week.

Loverboy actually debut at No. 1 on Single Sales chart; Bootlicious was No. 2, but Booty definitely had huge airplay compared to LB. Both singles were discounted heavily. Booty was .99 and LB was .49. I remember because I bought 'em. When I saw Booty marked down, it was clear what TM was doing. It's hard to believe we actually paid $2.49-$3.49 for two-track singles.

A lot of these comparisons of physical vs. digital sales are not at all equivalent.
In 1993 if you wanted a song, you either had to buy it, or copy someone else's cassette, or record from CD to cassette (CD burners didn't really show up till the very late 90s), or worse, tape it off the radio -- all with a lot of quality degradation.
In 2009 if you want a song, it is incredibly easy to find an MP3 online for free. Or to get it from a friend, emailed to you. Buying it is only very slightly easier time-wise. Yes it may be much cheaper now, but that's because the alternatives to getting a song free are so much easier for consumers.
I would guess that, on average, more people have a copy of any given popular song (either legally bought or gotten online free) than they did 15-20 years ago. I wouldn't be surprised if there are actually tens of millions of digital copies of top songs out there.
