This list is very hit-and-miss with me. There is a good portion of songs I like on here, though. I'm disappointed neither Thriving Ivory nor Coldplay made the list; I thought they had a good chance based on the first few posts because the list leans heavily in the HAC/Alt direction. The highest ranking song I like is "Decode," but I haven't heard #1 or #3 so I might have to give them a listen.

[Minimalism]

Very nice list. Not exactly my cup of tea, but I like around half of those. Good choices for both U2 and Dave Matthews Band, as both tracks are definitely the stand-outs on their (IMO) underwhelming albums. And I love "Zero" of course, and it's thrilling to see it this high.

Oh, since you employed tables in compiling your list, let me tell you that I actually considered using them when doing mine, but I can't stand the default HTML border, which we can't really modify in our posts. May I ask you to consider providing us more freedom in modifying tables? ;)

Don't shoot me, but I never bothered to listen to "Angels On The Moon" more than 2 or 3 times. It just didn't catch on with me. And regarding Coldplay, "Viva la Vida" was in my top 20 last year. This year, "Lost!" and "Life In Technicolor II" did moderately well, while "Lovers In Japan" and "Strawberry Swing" barely made a blip. The highest-ranked Coldplay song this year, had I ranked down that far, would actually have been "Life In Technicolor" (the instrumental).

Thanks! Yeah, the prevailing music taste here has shifted rather dramatically over the years, from a general Alt/Hot AC lean (similar to my chart) to very pop and indie. My tastes have changed as well, of course, but not quite as much as the board's.

When "Zero" first came out, it had a ceiling of around #2 on this list. The speed at which I loved the song has had few precedents. But it only spent 2 weeks at #1 on my chart and generally rose and fell quickly.

I wish I could. :( But everything is provided by Proboards, who doesn't have that advanced a set of options when it comes to that kind of stuff.

Great list! It may sound silly, but I love lists like yours that are routed in one genre (in this case Alternative) and then seeing the songs from other genres that make it. I don't know why, but I find that fascinating. lol. /tanget

After several weeks of meticulous scanning of my personal charts, Mediabase year-end listings, iTunes libraries, and last.fm archives - and listing every song that I thought was worthy of being considered one of the best of the decade - I ended up with 410. My goal was 400, but it turned out perfect for a top 400 plus a "10 that just missed the cut".

When you see a year listed for each song, it means the year that the song was most prominent for me, not necessarily the year it was released on disc or even released as a radio single. With only that small caveat, the rest is fairly straight-forward. As we get closer to the top (or I include an obscure song, or include a song that's outside my "normal" listening tastes), I might do some short write-ups as well.

It's even fascinating to myself. You won't see quite the same frequency of it in my decade list, but there will be plenty of pop, hip-hop, AC, and even a bit of country. :)

Hopefully you won't be disappointed by the rest of it. I have to say it's a bit less diverse, but by no means will the top 100 be a monolith of modern rock.

It just so happens that those last three are toward the more non-traditional material that made my list. Oh well, I'm sure there will be more stuff you like on here.

It never made any Mediabase charts, it seems to have vanished from my iTunes (or maybe I never had it), and it never made a year-end chart of mine. I suppose the attention I'm giving it by singling it out in a post will be enough to make it up.
