I dont care what everyone says Rihannas numbers are disappointing. She will struggle to sell 1.2 mill in the states. Beyonce and Britney were already at a million this time last year. Maybe a Grammy perfomance could renew intrest? It's going to take a herculean RiRirerelease for her to cross a milli.

Maybe a Grammy perfomance could renew intrest? Her performance at the AMAs was a disaster so I don't know if thats a good idea. I think just giving the album time will be best. Look at Clarkson, she's had 3 top 10 singles for AIEW and her album is still at 800k

Billboard is the only thing that matters. They said Kesha will be #1 and that's what it will be.

David Cook sold 1.25 million of his debut without a pop hit at all. "Light On" peaked at #20 on Pop.
SuBo has sold 3 million without a hit either.
Michael Buble has sold millions of albums without ever having a hit.

exactly HITS just playing guessing games soundscan >>> LOL HITS is a "guessing game"? HITS Tuesday chart is a measurement of overall sales, so is Soundscan. Neither are 100% accurate We call it a "guessing game" because their software rolls out the numbers in pieces over two days & people that post here take the Monday results way too seriously

Hard is not going to help her push another 500K esp when it cant even go Top 10 on iTunes and I forgot about Susan Boyle.. David Cook did surprisingly well! and Buble has an amazing fan base anyone else in POP world done it?

Clay Aiken sold 2.8 million of his debut, and "Invisible" peaked at #17 on pop.

Look at Clarkson, she's had 3 top 10 singles for AIEW and her album is still at 800k The key part to remember here is that her second single was a failure digitally; it may have had a good peak on Chr/Pop (though a very fast rise/fall) but it was never a hit with the buying public, thus didn't help the album sell at all. As long as Rihanna's next single is a hit both on radio and digital outlets her album sales should remain fairly consistent. With a string of hits, I see no reason why Rated R couldn't sell one million units at this point.

You're comparing apples to oranges (which isn't surprising considering I see it all the time here). Unlike Alicia, Rihanna has never been a huge album seller. In fact, speaking strictly figures, this is one of Rihanna's most successful albums; it garnered her the biggest opening week of her career (in regard to albums) and has sold more in its first six weeks of release than any of her previous albums did in the same amount of time. The only area this album has failed is in the minds of certain people who had outlandish expectations for this album. An artist doesn't go from selling 2.5 million with four substantial hits to selling one million with an underperforming first single; it's just not realistic.

Already Gone kept the album's weekly sales at 5-10k, but a hit won't do too much when the album falls beyond the 10k mark...

Hard is currently charting twice within the top 100 on iTunes. When the popularity bars from both versions are combined it shows the single is actually #9 on the overall chart:

OK- the chart looks VERY odd now. The percentage just went up a tad to 54.98%, and it looks like this: CHART DATE: 01/11/2010 LAST UPDATE: 01/12/2010 11:53:18 NOW IN: 54.98% LW TW artist / album label power index -- 1 KE$HA RCA/RMG 102,588 ANIMAL 1 2 SUSAN BOYLE COLUMBIA 48,312 I DREAMED A DREAM 2 3 MARY J. BLIGE GEFFEN 31,355 STRONGER WITH EACH TEAR
Maybe there was an error with Ke$ha's numbers yesterday?

some people are quite transparent. please save the dramatic pick-and-choose digs; as they carry no value and noone wants to read them. anyway, on topic wow that's quite an increase lol
