Ughh I know I'm going to get shot for saying this but the 'Rhythmic' format is such a joke and that's the only reason why Ke$ha is ahead on the Mediabase chart. Seriously...it's basically the same as the Pop format and basically all the same songs on the Pop format are in the Top 40 on Rhythmic Yep. You knew it. You know good and well Rhythmic's more Urban leaning than anything so that's not it.

Why is a radio format a "joke"?
It's just a format. Active Rock and Alternative/Modern Rock have a lot of overlap, as well. So do AC and Hot AC. That doesn't make any of them a "joke."
If someone is getting a lot of airplay, it's because they're getting a lot of airplay, not because of how a radio format is named.

it looks like "Hard" might crack the top 10 this week if its adds at radio continue and it continues to move on iTunes!!! Plus Gaga/Beyonce are finally moving up the charts with Telephone. As much as i love Bad Romance, it did well but i know that Telephone has NUMBER ONE written all over it =). Excited for this weeks charts!

The only thing "Telephone" has working against it is the fact that by the time it's actually sent for adds, a lot of stations will be burnt out on the song as they've been playing it for over a month now. But I agree, it does have smash written all over it.

Also i'm really sick of empire state of mind it should be done by now!! Singers get paid in different ways. If a singer just records a track without writing on it, he/she will not receive money for radio play. Only the song writers/copyright holders/publishers receive money. That is called a performance right royalty. Singers that don't write on tracks can still get money for performance of a song, though. For example, if an artist performs the song on TV he or she will get something for that. The other kind of royalty is a mechanical royalty. That is given out to the artist whenever an album or single is purchased on iTunes or in physical form. There has been a lot of talk in the past years about changing the law to allow artists to be compensated for radio play. Many feel that because an artist has so many different sources of revenue that they don't deserve to receive extra for radio play. The NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) is the force that's keeping any bills passed. They believe that they shouldn't have to pay extra fees and claim that stations could potentially go bankrupt. Either that or they have to include more advertisements/or charge more to advertisers. The other side of it is that an artist is the one that makes a song popular. A song writer may have an insanely catchy song, but without the right voice it may never be heard. The artist is the one that is being exposed to the public, not the songwriter -- so why shouldn't they get a cut as well? I believe most of this info is accurate. Anyone can be free to correct me if I said anything wrong lol.

thanks, i thought of that, but i wasn't sure...or i didn't have the right thought!! anyway thanks i just wanted to know how it works for an artist to not sell good but still get money because of the radio....there was an argument about hip-hop djs not playin the good music and thats why artists go broke...blah blah blah!!

I think they should divide up the money the song writers and publishers get with the related artists that are credited on the song.

Just like David Ghetta's pproduction played a bigger role in I Gotta Feeling's success than the songwriters.

This week might be Hard's best chance to reach the top 10 of the hot 100, it is one of the largest gainers in airplay and is increasing in digital sales :)

^Are you accounting for Blah Blah Blah breaking into the top 10? ??? maybe you were directing this at someone else....I'm wondering how Wale is doing on R&B airplay but for the record, I can't stand that song. It's not as bad as Tik Tok, but it sucks nonetheless.

I gather Sade is suffering a fate similar to Whitney, in that Urban AC is her only big airplay outlet.
Look at Reba still ticking upward.
