I don't think so. I wouldn't be surprised if she trends up for that.
The Fame EP is going to go Platinum. That's pretty great.

So it's pretty much official: Susan Boyle is going diamond. The lady has virtually ZERO airplay and still selling 100k/week. Wow. Why won't they send any songs to radio? Could do 20X platinum

2 weeks in a row of only one debut doing well, but doing very well. And by surprising artists...Wiki says that after a year and a half VW's debut didn't hit half a million. Vampire Weekend's debut has sold 491,000 in the US to date so its pretty much certain that it has shipped 500,000 copies in the US. Since their new album will cause their debut album's sales to rise (it re-enters the Top 200 this week), it will definitely go Gold.

Could do 20X platinum She's got a long way to go before she hits Diamond. I don't think she'll manage anymore than 5xPlatinum personally. Taylor Swift is far more likely to hit Diamond in a few years though.

Could do 20X platinum She would have to average over 100,000 per week for the entire rest of the year to go diamond. I don't think that's very likely, but hey, I've been surprised by her performance on the charts thus far, so who knows...

^Just a tad. hehe
SuBo would get no play at pop, rhythmic or Hot AC< so AC would be her only outlet. Did she not score a top 10 at AC with "Silent Night"?

She'll probably be about 6-7 x's platinum by then. If she's going diamond it'll be December 2011 which is fabulous going diamond in 2 years is great. Also, never under estimate her Christmas sales. She'll likely sell a ton Christmas 2010 as well....likely another million or so combined for the months of November and December (2010) alone.

It has been less than 2 months
Another possibility to consider, as the album ages it will sell less and less each week like every other album.
By December 2011 this will be lucky to do 3K a week. The Susan Boyle phenomenon is likely confined to the here and now. As the year progresses we will likely see someone else step up that catches the public eye

YOUR WEAKEND CHART PREVIEW: Heading into the big football weekend, Vampire Weekend looks pretty much like a sure thing for #1 next week. This will be the very first #1 record for ADA, and a big deal indeed for indie rock in general. (Incredible album, btw—see Trakin Care of Business for the details). Here’s how things are shaping up:
Vampire Weekend (XL/Beggars debut) 110-120k Susan Boyle (Columbia) 85-90k Ke$ha (Kemosabe/RCA/RMG) 65-70k Lady Gaga, The Fame (Interscope) 55-60k Alicia Keys (J/RMG) 40-45k Lady Gaga, The Fame Monster (Interscope) 30-35k Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 30-35k Mary J. Blige (Geffen) 30-35k Alvin & the Chipmunks (Rhino) 30-35k Black Eyed Peas (Interscope) 27-30k Justin Bieber (Island/IDJ) 27-30k
You may now return to handicapping the over/under for the NFC and AFC match-ups. (1/15a)

All she needs to do is dress up as Mrs. Clauss and she'll sell another 3 mill this Christmas!

I think Lady Antebellum at the end of the month could be a huge seller and stick up at the top of the chart for few weeks.

Huh? I said this looks like a "here and now" phenomenon. Not something that is going to drag on for years. The next "star" to come out of the "X-Factor" or "Britain's Got Talent" will be along soon.

Which ither act from those shows has seen success as has SuBo??? You're completely missing the point At some point in time, interest in this album will die down and it will become just another album Few albums stand the test of time to generate considerable sales interest year after year. (Beatles, Pink Floyd, Metallica, etc.) This album is not in that class. The album has been out less than 2 months. The hype will die down, interest will die down. The talk of 10 million is a bit silly.

So when does SuBo appear on Oprah? (or did she already) January 19. She and Adam Lambert will be on the show. And Minor, I agree. Lady Antebellum could do over 200k their first week.

Indeed, their nearly 2 year old album is the #2 country album (behind 'Fearless' but shockingly ahead of 'Play On') this week and has had a crazy resurgence with 'Need You Now' alone it seems. I'm thinking 250-300K for opening week for Lady Antebellum even with the crappy market and first quarter.

And it's awesome their album is holding up with Taylor & Carrie!!

(Beatles, Pink Floyd, Metallica, etc.) This album is not in that class. The album has been out less than 2 months. The hype will die down, interest will die down. The talk of 10 million is a bit silly. Her hype might die down but the question is when? Her album has been out nearly 2 months (which is a long time to still be in the top 2, having never gone any further down then #2). She was pushed out of the top spot last week yet that album who took over #1 is selling less then her in this up coming week. There is no indication YET that the hype will die done at all in 2010. She's got an album that has shown stability and yes, two months is more then enough. I'm willing to bet she stays a float all of 2010......if these January numbers are any indicator. The Britain's got talent thing isn't going to hurt her. That show starting up again is only going help her. Okay the talk of 10 million might be a bit much this early. But right now, if one artist could do it, it would likely be her considering she still sitting at #2 in January on a nearly two month old album. Come on, who really expected her to sell 3 million in less then two months and still be at #2 in January 2010. Anyone?

What does "stay afloat for all of 2010" mean?
