Quite consistent at the moment, yes, but it would've been better if it had been as consistent a few months ago when the sales amounted to more. I just hope it will make it to 500k by year-end. The remix album(s) are out next month and assuming that focus on the campaign will promptly be switched to those projects and their respective singles, sales for the original Memoirs album will likely fall.

To be honest, I would rather she not release the remix albums at all and just take a little bit of a break and come out with a new album in Fall 2011.

Note how similarly the recent female compilations are performing- Spears at 162 on Current Albums, Janet Jackson at 167 and Madonna at 171. Over time, these could sell alright, but it's very clear that hits compilations have lost that initial sense of urgency that they may have once had (in this iTunes age). Album sales in general are down, but especially for newly released compilations.

Mimi's remix albums likely won't sell a heckuva lot (I imagine less than Memoirs itself)- the albums really are more of a synergy project, as it's tied to Memoirs (containing the same tracks, just with featured acts tacked on).

Mimi does need to take some time away from the scene- with release after release, she's barely had a break in releases since "Touch My Body" (the E=MC2 singles, "Right to Dream," "My Love" and the Memoirs singles).

It'd be interesting if they tried a new tack with compilations.

Instead of picking the songs for you, they could do something like "spend $9.99 and get your favorite 15/18/20 songs" -- encourages more purchases than people might make otherwise and gives the consumer incentive by giving some savings.

Actually I don't know why they don't do more things like this in general -- I know I'd probably by a few more songs if I knew by spending just a couple extra bucks I could end up spending a lot less per track. In the digital age that would increase revenue with essentially no additional production cost.

Paramore got a Gold certification :) I'm happy for them, Brand New Eyes is a solid album. Now if Ignorance reached top 40 on Pop... They are already preparing their third single for Alternative, while on Pop their first single is still struggling but at least it's bulleted.

Ignorance might reach the Top 40 yet. It's still having decent updates at least.

I think Brand New Eyes can go platinum as long as The Only Exception doesn't completely flop and Careful is released after it.

You always speak the truth! Sales will continue to decline if there's no plan to counteract. If all albums were sold for $9.99 or less, sales would be out the roof.

That's a great idea.

Come to think of it--with digital outlets like itunes/Amazon where consumers can pick and choose singles and tailor their playlists to their own tastes, the compilation album is effectively dead as a viable commercial product.
