Almost 35 years to the exact day (released Nov. 15, 1978), Kenny Rogers' The Gambler debuts at #50 on the country digital songs chart.

^There was a statement in Monday's update that it was the final update for the year and the next one will be Monday, Jan. 6. I remember that they took a break at Christmas time last year.

^ do you have a password or something? I can't get access! You don't need a password. There should be a place to the right to click and all the charts will pop up. It says national airplay charts I think. Just click on the arrow and choose country or whatever chart you want to look at.

Are the large drops in audience due to the heavy increase in Christmas music last week?

Are the large drops in audience due to the heavy increase in Christmas music last week? Yes. You figure each song lost roughly two days of airplay (Christmas Eve and Christmas). If you look at MB today, you'll see everybody bounced back up substantially in audience.

ChartI think that's last week's - Stay would've been #1 LW (not #3) and Dierks was #21 on Sunday. (A stan would know. ;) )

ChartMB description on bottom of page of that chart link. ABOUT MEDIABASE MUSIC CHARTS: YELLOW HIGHLIGHT DENOTES CHART DEBUT. BULLET INDICATES INCREASE IN AIRPLAY OVER PREVIOUS WEEK. Mediabase electronically monitors more than 1,700 radio stations in the top 150 U.S. metro markets, 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week. Those radio stations are broken out into specific radio "panels," and included in the most appropriate "format" above. Songs moving downward for a pre-specified number of weeks are removed from the charts. All charts are based on radio spins, with the exception of Country which is points based. Mediabase is the leading radio monitoring service with broadcast companies in the US. Mediabase also serves virtually every significant recording company, and associated entertainment industries Interesting how Country is the ONLY format that is points based! No one can ever convince me that there isn't backroom manipulation going on? What justifies Country as being the only genre done this way? Top 40 has more than double the audience Country does!

I was under the assumption that Mediabase's country chart is point-based because of alleged manipulation when the chart used to be spin-based. Also, Billboard Country Airplay now ranks songs by audience instead of spins while the rest of the Billboard's airplay charts are still based on number of plays.

Dang is the Country radio industry that corrupt where they have to have their own rules in comparison to the rest of music? That's like a parent giving their 1 demon child more restrictions than the other kids in the family that behave themselves! That's just sad!

Dang is the Country radio industry that corrupt where they have to have their own rules in comparison to the rest of music? That's like a parent giving their 1 demon child more restrictions than the other kids in the family that behave themselves! That's just sad! The country Medibase chart is delivered via Country Aircheck, an obviously country-specific industry organization, and that is the big reason why the country chart is points-based. Country radio has Country Aircheck to tinker with the Mediabase charts...Pop radio does not have Pop Aircheck, there is no AC Aircheck, etc. But a points-based system (however bizarre the formula is) is harder to manipulate than a spins-based chart, as cerulean alluded to. If they went back to spins-based (like all other genres), the manipulation would be much more evident and appear much worse than it already is. You would see a bunch of labels getting hundreds of spins during the overnight hours when no one is listening, just so they could be #1 for a day. At least the points-based system takes time of day and market size into account. The fact that Country Aircheck replaced the spins-based MB chart with a points-based formula shows that they were trying to stop blatant chart manipulation (like we saw with Reba's "Somebody"), not increase it. The labels have just learned how to play ball in the years since.

^I thought that Mediabase doesn't take time of day into account...only the "weight" of each market. This Week's ChartParmalee, Keith Urban, Hunter Hayes, Eric Church, Jennifer Nettles and Jake Own all stay on. I can't find this week's Mediabase chart. Since no songs were sent recurrent this week, you could just refer to the daily Mediabase chart for 12/26, but the 12/26 and 12/19 charts don't go down in the Mediabase records at all. Country Aircheck in the past has simply put two dashes through each song's "Last Week" position when they published the first new chart of the year, so, as unprofessional as it may seem, two weeks of charts are just entirely ignored every year.
