Loved the article about the revolving door of #1s. I do wish it would change things but I don't think so.

At least Sam Hunt's atrocious song seems to have legs with its third week at the top. Terrible song, but it's size has at least helped it stay longer than a week. My major problem is that songs that deserve #1 don't get it, and songs that don't deserve #1 do. They don't go up on their own merit. So a song like "Tin Man" won't make it, maybe not even make the top 30 the way it's looking, but a song like "The Weekend" might make it? Come on, that's got to bother you.

As far as 2017 is concerned, we have had eleven songs make it to the top. I am excluding Brett Eldredge as he is a holdover from 2016. We have passed twenty weeks so far this year. Including Eldrdege's second week at #1 (the first week of the year), that means time spent at the top on average is 1.8 weeks. Not bad so far. If we want that average to go up, we'd better see more three and even four week #1s.

I just find it ironic bc we've actually already had several 3 week #1's this year on billboard (not so much mediabase). Anyways they can talk all they want about multi-week #1's, but radio doesn't want to have a song with an audience of 40+ for two months either. So unless the numbers required to be #1 go down, you're not going to start seeing 5 week number ones.
Finally, I thought it was funny he was complaining about songs going to fast, meanwhile country radio is the site of the 200 day chart climb. The weekend has been hanging inside the top 10 for how long? For no reason, and the charts are massively clogged. Meanwhile in pop the oldest song in the top 10 is 123 days, and it's in free fall, that would be on of the younger songs on the country top 10. What they should really do is get the big hits into the top 10 in a month...and then they can leave them there for 2.

But, I just hope that radio and more importantly, the labels realize that crap doesn't need to reach the top. If it doesn't resonate, drop it.

We have seen garbage fly up the chart and quality barely making a dent.

^There seems to be a logjam at country radio. Only one song each week is entering the Top 10.
Zac Brown and Tim McGraw are going to peak in the lower teens. Wow.

I still don't see why Sam Hunt staying in the Top 5 still is so shocking. The song is just so huge and testing so well. I kinda like it sticking around and who knows it might limit other songs to a lower BB peak.

He's keeping some good songs from entering the top 10.
