I have absolutely no idea what this new Mediabase Reporter Weights is about. It seems like WKLB/Boston at 10 points is now worth the most chart points for the Country charts??

Good luck figuring it out. This is, essentially, why I and many other posters here don't care for Mediabase's method of tallying airplay compared to Billboard's method. Mediabase's points system makes no sense. It's a great big mystery, and it's exclusive to the country genre. Reading the page with the new weights gave me a headache. The weights are calculated based on audience impressions and market rank, but after that, I'm lost.

I've tried for months to understand the nuances of the Mediabase chart, but I can never seem to completely nail it. For instance, I was under the impression that any loss of points on the published chart resulted in loss of bullet. That's obviously not the case since Carrie kept her bullet this week in spite of a loss of 166 points and 556K in AI. What she did have was +60 spins, so obviously if you gain spins, points don't matter in terms of what goes recurrent. Compare that to Kristen Kelly the week before. She lost only 3 points and 2K in AI, but she also had -5 spins, which added up to loss of her bullet.
I don't suppose we'll ever completely figure it out since the bottom-line points calculations are secret.
ETA: I looked in Aircheck for a list of stations that were added and subtracted from the panel this week but couldn't find it. Does such a list exist? I know the Cumulus station in Pensacola, WXBM, was one of those removed and that stations in Springfield, Mo. and Portland, Me. were added.

I know the Cumulus station in Pensacola, WXBM, was one of those removed and that stations in Springfield, Mo. and Portland, Me. were added. They listed the new stations in a previous issue, maybe 2 weeks ago, but here they are. None of them are huge in market size, but should be good additions. - KHGE - Fresno, CA (67th in market size)
- WTHT - Portland, ME (90)
- KAWO - Boise, ID (101)
- KRYS - Corpus Christi, TX (111)
- WUSJ - Jackson, MI (126)
- WYCT - Pensacola, FL (128)
- KTTS - Springfield, MO (138)
The two removed were KIZN in Wichita, KS (99th market size) and WXBM in Pensacola, FL (128th market size). WTHT Portland, KRYS Corpus Christi, and KTTS Springfield were already Billboard-reporting stations. The other 4 new ones are not on the main BB panel.

Mikem---Carrie didn't lose her bullet at Mediabase because she gained 60 spins last week.
The Mediabase rule for recurrents states that any song which is down in spins and points and ranked below #1 will be moved to the recurrent chart at the end of the third week.
'Blown Away' will consequently go recurrent three weeks from yesterday, on Nov. 18th.
Toby's latest tune kept its bullet for the same reason; it gained spins but lost points.

Thanks jhomes and marv. I finally figured out the whole spins/points/recurrent thing after seeing Carrie kept her bullet. Until then, I was under the impression all you had to do was lose points.
So Mediabase dropped Cumulus' newly purchased station in Pensacola (WXBM) and picked up their locally-owned competitor. One thing you can say for Cumulus, they seem committed to their way of programming and it doesn't seem they're going to change for anyone. I personally despise Cumulus. They've pretty much ruined country radio in Nashville. If I recall correctly, the piece in Country Aircheck last week said five more stations had been put on notice about meeting the new current music rules where 25% of the songs between 6 a.m. and midnight have to be current. I wonder if those will turn out to be Cumulus, also. They're down to about seven stations on the panel already.

Mediabase continues to baffle. Carrie and Toby are gone from the chart today. Either they made a mistake letting them keep their bullet, or they've removed them by mistake today. I've actually seen this before when Band Perry's last song went recurrent. They kept their bullet on a day where I thought they should have lost it, but the song went recurrent two weeks later just as if it had lost the bullet on the day in question.

Can someone explain to me what the Activator chart is? Florida-Georgia Line is #1 on there but falls out of #1 on the actual chart? Also, is there an easy way to look and see week to week what Country Countdown USAs most added single or whatever they call it is on their weekly show? I know CCUSA is a week behind which I also don't understand but whatever.

I can answer one of your questions, but unfortunately not both.
The Activator chart, from my understanding, is the "small-market" chart that Aircheck utilizes (similar to Billboard's "Indicator" chart), which results in smaller spin and audience totals.
As for the CCUSA questions, I never listen and am not familiar at all with how it runs.

Correct, it's a different panel of stations than the Aircheck chart.

Just look at the Monday evening edition of Country Aircheck which contains all of that info, or you can sign up to receive that same info via e-mail on the All Access website, and you'll receive all of that same information every Monday morning except for holidays.
The next Monday evening edition of Country Aircheck will be released on January 7th.
That listing of station weights is primarily for PDs, MDs and other radio execs.

No I just got it tonight & the date is correct. Well, have you opened it and looked? When I click on the link you pasted, it says January 3 at the top and there is no chart in it. Your link does say 010713 in the url address but it automatically changes to 010313 when I open it.

I just opened it on my phone and it says 1/7/2013 on the first page. Dang. Anyone else having problems? I opened the very link I got in my email tonight and it's the exact same thing that we got last week. Says January 3 at the top, has ads for "Like Jesus Does" and Blake's new song, etc. No chart, list of job openings at the bottom, blah blah. Not a happy camper.

Nevermind. I got it to work now. I kept clicking the link and for some reason it was automatically changing the date in the url from 010713 to 010313 and so I tried manually changing it one last time, and now I got the new chart. Sorry to bother y'all!
