www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news07938m01SADE MAKES IT A HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY FOR BIZJaheim, Josh Turner Also Set to Debut Next Week February 10, 2010 Sade’s been away for a while, but her fans are still out there. The reclusive pop-soul songstress returns with Soldier of Love, her first Epic album in 10 years, since 2000’s Lovers Rock, and sixth overall in a career that began in 1984 with Diamond Life. According to one-day sales reports from those retailers not up to their necks in snow, the album will debut at #1 next week with a total somewhere between 400-425k, with bad weather back east and Valentine’s weekend shopping the two variables. The week’s other top debut looks like Atlantic R&B crooner Jaheim, whose Another Round, the follow-up to 2007’s gold-certified The Makings of a Man, appears set to go over the 100k mark, and could do as well as 110k. MCA Nashville country-rocker Josh Turner is angling for a strong, 60-65k debut for his latest effort, Haywire. ForeFront Christian act tobyMac is on target for 40-50k, maybe more, with the religious market the big (pardon the pun) X factor. RCA/RMG’s Dave Matthews/Tim Reynolds collaboration, Live in Las Vegas, is on track for between 35-40k. Big Machine’s soundtrack to the all-star movie Valentine’s Day opening this Friday, features a new Taylor Swift single and could be a wild card, with 20-25k forecasted, the same total expected for Sire’s Finland rockers HIM, whose aptly titled Screamworks: Love in Theory and Practice, Chapters 1-13, arrives just in time for that very special someone who likes some Scandanavian metal with their chocolates. The market was up 3% vs. last week, down 8% vs. same week last year and down 5% year to date. You may now return to watching an exciting curling match at this year’s Winter Olympics, where maybe perhaps they can import some snow across the border from Washington, DC. Sade 400-425k Jaheim 100-110k Josh Turner 60-65k tobyMac 40-50k Dave Matthews/Tim Reyonlds 35-40k Valentine's Day 20-25k HIM 20-25k --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- YOUR VALENTINE'S WEAKEND CHART PREVIEW: What symmetry! Each of the Big Four will snag a spot in the Top 4 next week, as Sade leads the way with a total trending well above 400k. That'll give the biz 400k+ twice in the first six weeks of 2010, and surpriningly strong sales so far, as I.B. Bad details in his latest column. As Mel Allen used to say, how about that? * Sade (Epic) 425-450k Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 150-160k * Jaheim (Atlantic) 100-110k Lil Wayne (Cash Money/Universal Motown) 80-85k * Josh Turner (MCA Nashville) 60-65k Lady Gaga, The Fame (Interscope) 60-65k * tobyMac (ForeFront) 55-60k Black Eyed Peas (Interscope) 50-55k Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 35-40k * Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds (RCA/RMG) 35-40k Mary J. Blige (Geffen) 30-35k Susan Boyle (Columbia) 30-35k Zac Brown Band (Atlantic) 30-35k Michael Buble (Reprise) 30-35k Alicia Keys (J/RMG) 30-35k * Denotes debut You may now return to ordering that special Valentine's gift online for Saturday delivery. Best news of the year so far. Get it Sade!!! Sad news for Massive Attack though - I thought they'd have a decent enough fanbase for top 30. :(

That would be phenomenal- heck, 300K+ would be terrific.
Vas, Massive Attack could get into the top 30; would probably need 15K or so? You have until Sunday to make it happen. ;)

Sade To Take No. 1 On Billboard 200 Next Week
Expect the smooth sounds of Sade to overtake the No. 1 slot on the Billboard 200 album chart next week, as industry sources project the group's new effort "Soldier of Love" could sell between 375,000 to 400,000 by week's end on Feb. 14.
It will be the act's second No. 1 album -- its first came way back in 1986 with "Promise." "Soldier of Love" is the first studio effort from the band -- led by vocalist Sade Adu -- since "Lovers Rock" was released in 2000. That set debuted and peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 with 370,000 sold in its first week.
Since its release, "Lovers Rock" has sold 3.9 million in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. The new album's title track recently became Sade's eighth top 10 hit on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart -- its first since "Kiss of Life" reached No. 9 in 1993.
Sade played NBC's "Today" and CBS' "The Late Show With David Letterman" yesterday (Feb. 9) and is scheduled to visit ABC's "The View" today. Next week, Sade drops by "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" (Feb. 15), "Jimmy Kimmel Live" (Feb. 16) and "The Wanda Sykes Show" (Feb. 20).
Other albums headed for notable debuts on next week's Billboard 200 include Jaheim's "Another Round," Josh Turner's "Haywire," TobyMac's "Tonight" and Celtic Thunder's "It's Entertainment!"
Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2009 when Taylor Swift's "Fearless" returned to No. 1, selling 92,000 (up 44%) following her performance on the Grammy Awards (Feb. 8, 2009). Robert Plant and Alison Krauss' "Raising Sand," last year's winner of the Grammy for album of the year, flew from No. 69 to No. 2 with 77,000 (up 715%). The highest debut on the list came from India.Arie's "Testimony: Vol. 2, Love & Politics," arriving at No. 3 with 75,000.

If Massive Attack did sell that much, then HDD would have given them a nice little mention. I'm just a little apprehensive but not that worried - it'd be their fanbase buying it without any word of mouth.

Sade has had ridiculously consistent sales throughout their career. Every album they've released is 3-4x platinum in the US. Never had a flop, never had a mega smash success, just always done very well.

Damn @ Sade! Killing it!
I'm not surprised at Jaheim's numbers. He seems to always crack the 100k mark first week, which is an oddity for R&B artists of his calibre.

Oh, but she hasn't had a hit on the H100 in 18 years so according to some people she should be at or below Lil Wayne's #'s last week. Because Lil Wayne's 2 hits by some definition aren't hits. Or...they're wrong about hits driving album sales.

Great opening for Sade!! Then again their group always have had consistent album sales even if it does take them 10 years to release a new album. :)

Good numbers for Josh. A bit lower than his last album's debut, but still decent.

I think Sade releases albums every so often purposely. I think they notice that overexposure causes bad eras. Every time they release an album, it's like an "event." They always follow their roots without sounding dated. Some artists should take note.

Best news of the year so far. Get it Sade!!! quote] Oh Shitake! Wow. It is well deserved. She needs to make the comeback like her male counterpart Maxwell did last year. Can you image a duet between the two?

Surprisingly, "By Your Side" wasn't a huge hit on either Pop or R&B, but it managed to push the album to triple platinum status.
"Soldier of Love," however, is doing very well on its format. It's no HUGE hit though.

^I think Sade has always been an album artist as opposed to having big hit singles. I know I always buy their albums.

Most definitely. :)
I noticed that several R&B artists who take long breaks open up with big numbers: Maxwell (317k), Whitney Houston (305k) and Sade (400k?). It's a noticeable trend if you ask me.

It proves that the Urban AC crowd is not as dormant as we thought. Good soul music will almost always succeed.

They always follow their roots without sounding dated. Some artists should take note. That may be so, but there's a difference between avoiding overexposure and waiting 10 years between album releases. I think an artist can easily avoid overexposure by releasing an album every 4 years or so. But you are right that because they haven't had an album in so long it makes it more like an event (much like Maxwell and Whitney's returns last year).

But you are right that because they haven't had an album in so long it makes it more like an event (much like Maxwell and Whitney's returns last year). This is true. Them releasing albums every 8-10 years is obviously helping them quality wise and commercially. Waiting 4 years to release an album won't have the same effect as waiting 7 or even 10 years to release an album. Sade isn't the type of band/artist that chase commercial success. So, a ten year period wait is pretty normal for them, but I do wish they would release more often like they did in the 80s.

If Lauryn Hill releases an album in 2010, then I will officially call this the year of miracles.
