Ugh Legolas don't ruin the beginning of a new thread! The mods recommended a part two as threads usually crash and disappear around the upper 90s.

Anyways, this received 7 top 40 and 2 hot ac adds today (improvement over last week). It even broke it's CBS Radio cherry with Detroit and Charlotte officially on board :)

33 stations remain...Cumulous accounts for almost half of those lmao!

Up to #24 on iTunes (and that's with several Olympics/Haiti downloads ahead of him).

All in all, doing well :)

This isn't updated, the real Z100 numbers today are:

Adam supposedly lost spins there today (102 instead of 105 yesterday) because they spinned WWFM's accoustic version 4 times yesterday instead of the regular version.

These accoustic spins don't count and hence the AI gain today was minimal. He had a really good Top40 AI update today considering he supposedly lost 3 Z100 spins.

Update was good yes. It is heading in the right direction, I'm just worried that it is doing so too slow. Early adapters like Z100 can only play the song for so long before moving on to the next single.

I still believe this will at east go top 15, but top 10 and top 5 may be out of the question if it doesn't maintain big updates. The chart is becoming extremely competitive and trends are showing radio focusing more on other songs ("Need You Know", "Breakeven", "Blah Blah Blah") with bigger bullets heading to the upper portion of the chart.

Anything is possible of course but if updates don't maintain consistent +100 then this will either miss the top 10 or take another 2 months to get there lol.

OK, I'm an idiot. Can someone please explain his place on the chart? I thought that he had gone down to 22, and is now at 20. Why is #19 there? Is that where he is right now? I thought the first number (19) showed where he was, and the second number (20) where he is.

This time last week, he was #19. The first number is the place he had last week at this time. The 2nd number is the current day's rank. He had 3 songs with huge bullets pass him and pushed him down to #22, but he's back up to #20.

In other news, Adam will be performing on Jay Leno (the Tonight Show) on March 2nd. He's singing "Music Again."

FWIW, March 1st is Jay's first day back as the host of the Tonight Show, so Adam's got a pretty good gig. Jay loved Adam last time!

Thank you so much for explaining. Btw, I wish he were not doing MA on Leno. He tends to mess it up live, said in an interview that it would not be a single, and, going by WWFM's radio play etc, it wouldn't hurt to maybe do the acoustic version of it on such a high profile appearance.

LOL. I don't know about the lyrical issues; they don't seem to phase him, and they're not apparent, so they don't bother me either. I'm thinking of the vocal acrobatics the song needs. He had a minor MA mess up on the early show, and he messed up the high bits big time at the Kradison concert. Also, doesn't he need to keep selling WWFM? He's got the acoustic version now, so I'm kinda hoping he changes from MA to acoustic WWFM.

It's super hard to switch from chest voice into falsetto so quickly. Have you ever heard Mika sing live? Yeah, he sucks live for that very reason. All of Mika's songs are like Music Again and even harder, and it shows in Mika's live performances. It's super hard to make that switch effortlessly from two different registers. It's not that he can't hit the notes, it's the abrupt change of vocal registers that's hard. It's difficult enough for a man to do an octave leap under any circumstance, but even harder to do it while completely changing registers.

Adam already sang WWFM on The Jay Leno Show in December and I guess they figure it will be a lot of the same audience watching Leno hosting The Tonight Show again. The acoustic version would be a way to make it seem a little different, but then you don't want people to go to download it and be disappointed it doesn't sound like what they heard on TV. There's still plenty of time for them to change their minds about the song.

Well, it's hard to jump from chest to head voice for somebody who hasn't had proper vocal training. But for somebody who has then really all you need to do is lift your back palate and make sure you have enough support to carry through the transition without engaging your throat in the process. You're not supposed to do anything different when singing in chest voice & head voice except lifting your palate. Everything else--support, breath, etc.--remains the same. In fact, my vocal warm-ups every single lesson involves switching from chest to head while moving up the scale. It's not super easy, but if I can do it with relative success, then it should be much easier for Adam.

I think it's more that Adam isn't concentrating enough on what his voice is doing when he's in "performance" mode--he sacrifices vocals for visuals. The fact that Adam was on doctor-ordered vocal rest during the Idol tour tells me that he doesn't always sing properly, even if he's been taught how to sing professionally. In other words, he hasn't worked out how to perform and keep his voice relatively on track at the same time (no live performance w/movement is perfect, but with practice performers can get to relatively perfect).

Well his "pop" voice is not his natural singing voice. He does something to it to make it sound more current, to give it an edge. I suppose that's what makes it harder to keep it technically perfect and vocally healthy. I mean, just listen to him perform Heaven On Their Minds, he has no trouble at all switching from one octave to the next. But that's his natural, more classical voice.

^^ It's true that modern pop songs often make singers do with their voice what it doesn't naturally want to do. That's why songwriters often sound better singing live -- they write the song to fit their voice rather than fitting their voice to the song. But IMO Adam should be able to sing in a pop style without ruining his voice. If he's engaging his throat just to sound edgy, then he should seriously reconsider doing that. He'll have no voice in 10 years. I'm not so sure he actually is doing that, though. I think he, like a lot of other singers, get vocally lazy sometimes during a live performance.

Mika writes his own songs. He said every time he performs live, he "hates the man that writes the songs, which is me" because they are so difficult to sing live.
