I was actually surprised at how well Adam did in Scandinavia in general. I knew Finland has always liked Adam (I actually think Mad World even charted there), but the others were a surprise. Um, maybe it's because Adam is half Swedish? Who knows.
ETA-Apparently WWFM is #2 on the German airplay charts, which is surprising. I didn't think Germany would take to Adam like a duck to water so quickly.
He didn't do much promo in Germany-he did an acoustic song and an interview for Radio Energy in Berlin the last time he was there, and another interview for a radio station back in March, but that was it.

Yeah, Finland wasn't such a surprise because it does have an idol following and usually idols are able to sell something there. But the others were more of a surprise. I think East europe is more open to dance music. Adam's style can be compared to Mika, who actually had success everywhere in Europe, but I've always thought it wouldn't probably be as easy for him to break into the south as it would be in the north/east, because the south leans in a more different way imo.
Breaking into the UK is just really complicated. It would take a lot more. But that's good about Germany. It's one of the biggest european markets.

Am I right in thinking Adam hasn't done very well in the UK given his promo?

WWFM is pretty melancholic and the whole vodka belt loves melancholic songs... just listen to the folks songs from that area. It's in our blood from when we are small.

FYE did well in the UK for not having any radio play, but yeah, FYE I think got a grand total of 1 spin on Radio 1. I think the song peaked at #37 on the UK singles charts, which apparently Sony was happy with, given their elated tweets, so whatevs.
However, Sony is sending out WWFM in July to the UK and the video for WWFM premiered yesterday on Freshly Squeezed.
Given that a huge monkey wrench was thrown into Adam's UK promo because of the Icelandic volcano (he lost 4 full days of UK promo due to that) I think he did the best that he could.
Yay :)

I was surprised he didn't have more success though (not sure on the numbers specifically) he got an interview on Jonathon Ross which is HUGE. Seriously, kudos to his booking agent or whatever, huge stars can't get on that thing.

Yes, and Jonathan Ross is the reason he got to #37, even though Adam didn't even sing. Yay Wossy.
I was actually surprised that Adam didn't do any promo at all with Radio 1, but maybe that was scheduled on those days he missed due to the Volcano.
Adam said he's going back to Europe in the fall, so he'll probably go do more UK stuff, as well as some concerts in the countries where he did well.

Yay!
Adam is excitedly tweeting that his solo tour will definitely be going international in the fall. Yay! Hopefully that means more promo in key countries like the UK and Germany.

For the UK performance of FYE, I'd like to add that it didn't have the kind of run most singles usually have. In the UK, a song is usually played on radio for an entire month or at least weeks until it's released. FYE was always available digitally, and it climbed to #37 after having been in the top 100 for months thanks to the video alone, along with a week at #39 before it peaked. If it hadn't been available digitally and it could have had a "peak week", I think it might have reached top 20, for whatever it's worth.
Furthermore, compare it to the US chart performance of FYE...

Adam is on vocal rest before the tour even starts?? Not a good sign at all. He probably won't last the whole tour. This should be interesting. When is the video out??? I know but I'm anxious
popes. This was supposed to be on the other song thread!

Lol wow. That song has some staying power. Maybe the staggered adds weren't such a bad thing after all. Yeah, he peaked lower on pop because of it, but damn it's had some staying power.

^ It definitely has some staying power. It actually reached the top 10 in WKSC Chicago last week.. without CC syndicated overnight spins.. which is nice and all, but he has a new song out now and I'd rather see them spinning IIHY and not WWFM.

From the current iTunes Austria page. The picture on the left is from the overall singles chart. The picture on the right is the Pop chart: Not bad, especially considering he did zero promo at all in Austria. Maybe they took a hint from Germany's love fest of WWFM.

P!nk will be performing this on her "Summer Carnival Tour". :) Great promo for Adam (in a way since he sings it and its a stadium tour) and I'm glad we'll finally get to hear her voice on it. :)

I've ALWAYS wanted to hear Pink's version of this song! I think it's a great compliment to Adam, and I'm looking forward to it! BTW-WWFM moves from #23 up to #9 on the Swiss Singles Chart this week. VERY big jump! WWFM is also the lead single in Spain, and will be released there in June.

But even if its not, people can always google the title when they get home. haha She's performing in front of 50,000 people tonight in Cologne and its sold out! So, StarSprinkles, keep an eye on Germany itunes! haha

I really like pink so I am excited to hear her take on the song for selfish reasons too! I just bought funhouse a few months ago and I think it's a great album.
