Yeah! This is my third favorite song on The Sound Of Madness and from Shinedown. Only "Second Chance" (my favorite) and "If You Only Knew" top "The Crow & The Butterfly" for me.
Not sure if it will do that well, though. It's the fifth single and the second straight ballad.
My predictions:
#11 on Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks #21 on Billboard Alternative Songs

YES! I know I'm in the minority around here, but I've always thought this song had smash all over it. I am weary about the 2 ballads in a row, but this is heavier than IYOK though.

a 12th top 5 coming. I'm calling it. Count me in the club! I wouldn't put any money on it. "Breaking Inside" would have been a banker.

I wouldn't put any money on it. "Breaking Inside" would have been a banker. Lol, and I think BI woulda broken the streak for sure. That song is not meant for rock. HAC maybe, but not rock.

Awesome! This was one of my remaining favorite choices as "What A Shame" was probably my least favorite.

Awesome! This was one of my remaining favorite choices as "What A Shame" was probably my least favorite. I still want WAS to be released to rock. Hopefully after this. Then I say call it an era.

since TCATB is single #5, they could release 1 or 2 more singles, with WAS possibly being 1 of them

Although it's on the softer side, I wouldn't necessarily call it a ballad.
I don't know how this will do though.

"Breaking Inside" feels way more like a rock song than this to my ears. "The Crow and the Butterfly" feels more epic than this, but also feels more balladesque. I think "What A Shame" was their best shot at maintaining the streak, though any song off the album could probably chart fairly well at active with their name association. They're like the not polarizing version of Nickelback. The masses don't hate Shinedown yet, and so radio can very safely play anything from them along with Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Seether, and Linkin Park.

"What A Shame" would've been a great capoff to the era. They made a big mistake with this.

You're kidding? What was the point in making videos for both "What a Shame" and "Breaking Inside"? This could well end their top 5 streak. i think they didn't make a video for "What a Shame" as for The Crow and the Butterfly, i think is one of finest songs from this amazing album, but i'm not sure if it will be a success on rock charts, i had the same fear for "If You Only Knew" (my personal favorite from the album) but it managed to peak at #2 on mainstream rock, i hope this one will follow a similar path..

Yes, there is a video for "What A Shame." I wonder if this is just a pop single, then again I haven't checked FMQB or allaccess lately.

The verses are mellow, but it gets pretty hard in the chorus. If IYOK missed top 20 on pop, this wouldn't do anything, imo. BI would be the better choice there.

I find "Breaking Inside" to be much harder than this. Ok, it's not exactly HEAVY, but it's not a straight-up ballad either. BI is my favorite track on the album, but I just can't imagine hearing it on a pop station. This and "Call Me" I can kinda see breaking the top 30 or so, but not much more. They're pretty much done with pop this era, so it doesn't really matter.

I heard the song while driving in Chicago last Friday. My initial reaction while listening to it was that it doesn't really feel like it should be on the radio, which correlates to many opinions previously stated above.

let the road to 12th top-5 begin dude, really hope so but.... but it's not that easy, mostly because it's their 5th rock single release from this era, and the song it's not a rocker... anyway, good luck to them...
