Boy am I f**king sick of post-grunge I don't know about that. I mean you have the likes of A Day to Remember, All That Remains, Escape the Fate, etc. on the chart, who wouldn't have had a chance a few years back. There's probably about 25 songs here that are "post-grunge", but it's not as bad as say 5+ years back, where no one but post-grunge bands were getting airplay.

Some people might call A7X metalcore or post hardcore. They were certainly classified as a metalcore band earlier in their career. I don't know where active rock might get more variety from. Maybe some more metal of the non-metalcore type as well as some more prog would be awesome as far as I'm concerned. I always dreamed of a station that played the freshest stuff from the alternative format as well as the metal-leaning and prog-leaning parts of the active rock format and make it a new format. It'd kinda be the equivalent of combining Sirius Alt Nation, Octane, and Liquid Metal...or Music Choice Rock, Metal, and Alternative...or in terrestrial radio land, combining WJJO with WEQX.
And of course making sure to purge the obligatory cock-rock.

I don't know what kinda non-metalcore, metal bands could make it, though. Do you have any ideas? As, for Prog, you're obviously gonna mention Fair to Midland & Porcupine Tree They would definitely spice things up a bit. There's not really any real 'different' bands threatening to make it on Active.

I don't know what kinda non-metalcore, metal bands could make it, though. Do you have any ideas? Soilwork for one. "Exile" went top 50 on active but should have done better, and others of their songs such as "Stabbing The Drama" and "Nerve" should have gone top 50 on active. I wish Lacuna Coil did better on active even though they manage to reach the lower region of the chart. Underoath no longer sounds post hardcore/metalcore and some of their newer songs deserve a shot. In Flames, Mushroomhead, and Machinehead could make it with the right songs as well. And of course Rammstein deserves another shot at active. :) As, for Prog, you're obviously gonna mention Fair to Midland & Porcupine Tree They would definitely spice things up a bit. There's not really any real 'different' bands threatening to make it on Active. Obviously. :) Add Karnivool in there as well. Dream Theater had success back in the day, and if they ever release good material again, they would make sense as well. Katatonia would be perfect. They basically sound like a slightly doomier more depressing version of a lot of active rock, but songs like "My Twin" and "Forsaker" sound basically like Swedish alt-metal with a prog twist. If "Forsaker" had been pushed, I think it could have gone top 50. Textures and Periphery are probably too much of a stretch, but I'd love it if they ever had some success. I also think Dredg is a good fit for alternative, and they're certainly well-respected among bands in the industry, but I wish they would make more of an impression on the mainstream. My dream radio station would also throw some Opeth and some Iwrestledabearonce in there.

Psh and My Darkest Days doesn't already do that for every other active rock station? It just polarizes against a very different audience.
If we took a poll over whether the average poster on here would prefer to listen to My Darkest Days or Iwrestledabearonce, it'd be pretty close, and my guess is more people would rather listen to IWABO.
And Opeth's prettier songs are fairly likable. They may be long, but it's similar to listening to a "Fade To Black" or "(Welcome Home) Sanitarium".

I would say that 90% of the audience wouldn't have even heard of IWABO, so they would probably choose the artist/track that they are familiar. I myself haven't heard of them before.
