How on earth can "This Time It's Different" be at #35 on Mainstream (#32 on audience at Active) and re-enter Rock Songs at #29? This week's Rock Songs is all screwed up ("Levitate", "I Like It" and "Don't Stop (Color on the Walls)" being other examples).

Doesn't "Rock Songs" include Alternative and AAA while "Mainstream Rock" doesn't? Also, "Mainstream Rock" is based on spins while "Rock Songs" is based on Audience, I think.

Those are probably the reasons for the differences.

Yeah, but I've checked Mediabase for audience figures and, even though they're higher than what I imagined, they seem to have remained stable over this couple of weeks, so I don't get the sudden re-entries, debuts, and high jumps. Anyway, just curiosity.

Here's your reason... While it's not charting on alternative, look at its top two alternative supporters and the numbers from those two stations:

Finally the Billboard.com site is starting to update its database, missing positions now came in for '92 on the Modern Rock chart. Hopefully the two missing 2001 weeks will also be in place now. Now, if they could only add the Mainstream Rock Top 10 charts to the site as well, absolute nirvana would be achieved.

That's great news. I hope they also get to fix the abysmal errors on the week counts of some songs, since basically every song that had its name corrected at some point during its chart trajectory has its number of weeks doubled or somehow messed up. "The Kill" by 30 Seconds to Mars, "Lay Me Down" by the Dirty Heads and "Move Along" by the All-American Rejects are examples.

Edit: the messed weeks of May 13, 1989, December 16, 2000 and March 24, 2001 have also been fixed. However, "Here's Where the Story Ends" is still a ghost song in the chart (all the weeks in which it was a top 10 show the other 9 songs and #11 instead).

Yeah, I noticed that. When I first started researching the charts, I never even used to know which song was missing until I bought the "Billboard Rock Tracks" book, and found the missing #1. That's another little annoyance too, how the titles change, and it seems to mess up the weeks. It's also a challenge on the Billboard.biz site, while using the archive. My prime example is when I tried to find the total number of weeks charted for "Fire It Up" by Thousand Foot Krutch on the Mainstream Rock chart, but it was divided into different sections for its previous titles, "Fired Up" and "Fired It Up". Took me forever to find the variations, and combine them with the regular weeks listed for the actual title.
