Active Rock needs more bands ...Red Line Chemistry... So wait, beyond their best Alice in Chains impression ("Dumb Luck"), is there actual merit to Red Line Chemistry not evident previously? Red Line Chemistry sound like standard post-grunge. They're just not any different to a lot of other groups such as Pop Evil, Rev Theory, etc. Lacuna Coil should hopefully get a top 20 with their next lead single, given it's radio friendly enough. See, at this point I'd go ahead and lump them in your "had their day" category with Mushroomhead and Dream Theater. Really? Mushroomhead & Dream Theater are pretty much veterans. Lacuna Coil are only 3 albums deep. I expect their next lead single to probably make or break them on radio, actually.

Hey I like them. They're not different to other post-grunge groups, though.

I've only heard "Dumb Luck", but based on that song alone, I'm not hearing anything special about them at all. What are their best tracks?

Well that's not looking promising for me then. Pen, is "Dumb Luck" your favorite of theirs too?

I usually don't bother to check all these random names but since it's the focus of the thread right now I actually listened to "Dumb Luck". It's at least OK, possibly even truly good. Sure as hell better than 90% of the stuff I hear when I turn on the local rock station.

Really? Mushroomhead & Dream Theater are pretty much veterans. Lacuna Coil are only 3 albums deep. I expect their next lead single to probably make or break them on radio, actually. And it's my gut feeling that whatever their most recent album was was their "make or break" album for commercial success. I feel like their profile wasn't as high last time out as it had been more toward the middle of the decade. Plus the style of music they play isn't getting any fresher.

For all you know, Lacuna Coil could come out with a My Darkest Days/Disturbed/Nickelback hybrid single and storm up the chart. But then again, they could come out with a similar-to-all-their-singles progressive metal single that will peak around the same positions as their last two charting songs. JUST DID RESEARCH: * Cristina Scabbia said on her official Facebook page, that the band are currently composing, and that the album sounded "heavier and darker" than their previous release, Shallow Life. * Oh well nevermind. Unless it's something like Disturbed, Alter Bridge's "Isolation" or Slipknot, it's not going to make Lacuna Coil a breakthrough hit on Active. I could always be wrong though .

^A lot of why Disturbed, Alter Bridge, and Slipknot have their success though is because they already broke through. I mean what bands do you know with that slightly more intellectual/artsy side have emerged on the active rock scene and had substantial success, say, in the last five years? The last band I can think of is Avenged Sevenfold. Hurt sorta did, but for only one single that was pretty standard fare radio rock. I think the point that Nick is making is a fair one in the sense that Lacuna Coil needed to get in the door faster to get past the wall that they've set for themselves. If they dumped their mediocre-at-best dude singer from their next album's lead single, that might help matters as well.
At the same time, the singles off Lacuna Coil's most recent effort were their best chart performers to date, and there's no reason that they couldn't muster a top 20 off the next album with a strong lead single. But these days, a top 20 song on active rock isn't exactly a mainstream hit as far as the # of audience impressions it makes.

^ You make a good point about the male lead single. I am not a fan of his at all. And yes with a strong lead single a top twenty is possible. It'll probably either flop all together or be a decent sized-hit. Yeah, it takes what? 500 spins to reach the top 20 these days.

AllAccess has a rolling Year-To-Date option on all their mediabase charts, and at this point, that should be pretty darn close to the end of the year numbers.
