LOL. I know what you mean though. I think Adam is a long shot because they clearly luuuurve Mayer given how many times he's won it before. And there is all the sentimental aspects for MJ so it's a tough category. But I really do think WWFM is the best vocal in that category.

Exactly - just getting the nomination is HUGE. I'd love to see him win it but all of the nominees are worthy of being there, so if he doesn't then at least it will be to someone else who can really sing.

Great review for Acoustic Live!

Lambert's "acoustic" CD makes good on the title claim as far as the instrumentation lies. But it's clear he had no intention of dialing down his vocals - a good thing. Bombast remains a virtue in Lambert's case. He's downright operatic in "Soaked" and as wild as Freddie Mercury on "Music Again." All the stripped background does is give Lambert more room to trill and soar. No wonder his acoustic disc feels electrifying.

Adam Lambert's Acoustic Live! released -- full review

Adam Lambert's new "Acoustic Live!" EP is now available for purchase on iTunes, and after giving the album several listens there are plenty of kind things that can be said.

First of all, this is a pure acoustic album -- often when an artist chooses to release music under this label, they still choose to gloss it up with extra drums and computer effects. An acoustic album should sound minamalist, and it should present you with a sort of raw emotion that you don't see as much in studio recordings.

Even though these acoustic recordings of Adam's music have all been available in various forms over the course of the past few months, what makes this five-song album special is the fact that they are all of the best quality we have heard thus far -- that and we can actually take it home with us now.

Out of the songs, "Aftermath" is clearly the highlight in that it showcases Adam's vocals perfectly by stripping the music down to the most basic elements. This is not a knock against any of the songs so much as it is a commendation of a song that was in many ways wrongfully ignored by RCA as a potential follow-up single to "If I Had You" here in America. Some of the notes in here are almost unfathamable to hit, but Adam does so perfectly.

Another major highlight is the acoustic rendering of "Music Again," a rock song that surprisingly works equally effectively in the acoustic form. Even the updated version of "Mad World" -- a song that spawned some debate when Adam changed up his original "American Idol" arrangement for the Glam Nation Tour -- works well here to go give the end of an album a faster pace to close things out after a number of ballads.

In the end, Lambert seems to realize that an acoustic album should not be a gimmick, instead choosing to make it an emotional twenty-minute trip through music. For any fans of Adam's "For Your Entertainment," this is surely worth five dollars -- and it even comes with a thumbs-up to any fan of pop music looking for a solid bargain this holiday season.

The voice that America remembers from Season 8 of American Idol takes center stage on the new Adam Lambert Acoustic Live! EP, which was released via iTunes this week.

What we hear on this release, which was hidden and somewhat secondary on the For Your Entertainment album, is the voice that most fell in love with each week during AI. The most powerful pipes in rock and roll are back, just like we remembered. Even the cover for the EP is something I was personally hoping for when the first album came out – gritty, punk and glam all rolled up into one with a flash of the peace sign thrown in for good measure. It’s his best and most accurate cover art to date.

I could listen to album after album of Adam Lambert’s rock and roll and acoustic music, much like we heard on the American Idol show and tour. For Your Entertainment had a small sample of the rock side of the Glamorous One, but mainly focused on being a collection of cool songs by some of the best songwriters around. The flashy production of the album hid the voice at times and shuffled big production with big beats.
Acoustic Live! is the complete opposite of For Your Entertainment. What we get, for the most part, is pure Monte Pittman (who also the guitarist for Madonna) and Adam Lambert – although the other band members are there.

The song choices are very good, featuring Whataya Want From Me, Music Again, Aftermath, Soaked and Mad World, taken from promotional performances and Glam Nation shows. It might have been nice to hear an acoustic stab at Sleepwalker or the forgotten Time For Miracles from the movie 2012. What is nice about the EP though is that it is just that – it’s an EP. It would have been a pompous mistake to re-record the whole For Your Entertainment CD as an acoustic release, but the 5-song EP is a sweet sampler.

Lambert fans will love everything he releases regardless, but this release should be noted for bringing Lambert back to some of the fans that enjoyed the American Idol rocker. For them, what For Your Entertainment lacked was a showcase for the voice that generated millions of votes each week. And with Acoustic Live! they get it.

Acoustic Live! is the best representation of Lambert’s voice to date and the CD cover resembles some of the greatest punk rock albums of all time. A must for the Glam Nation and a good re-introduction to the old American Idol well-wishers

To the uninitiated and uninformed, the idea of wild Idol Adam Lambert--who's been branded a "rocker" ever since his first TV audition of "Bohemian Rhapsody"--releasing an acoustic EP might sound as ridiculous and out-of-character as, say, Susan Boyle spitting some gangsta rap. Come on, isn't this the same Glamerican Idol who's always been all about Kiss boots, glitter guyliner, fairy-dusted glamour-shot album covers, green trouser-snakes, spike-shouldered Skingraft leathers, Burning Man bodypaint, same-sex smooches, and sundry other interstellar imports from Planet Fierce? And wasn't that whole coffeehouse-crooner shtick the domain of Season 9's Idols, anyway? So why on Earth (or on Planet Fierce) would this over-the-top pop fop want to tone things down?

However, diehard Adamaniacs already know--from witnessing the unplugged act of Adam's ongoing Glam Nation Tour (or his more low-key "American Idol" performances, like "Mad World" and "Tracks Of My Tears")--that Glambert going acoustic isn't quite as shocking as Dylan going electric was back in the day. (No one's been hollering "Judas!" at any Glam gigs, as far as I know.) And ultimately, the results are about as pleasing to the ear, as evidenced by Glambert's new unplugged opus, the five-song Acoustic Live! EP.

Considering how genre-hopping and kitchen-sinky Adam's debut disc For Your Entertainment was, it's interesting how, when stripped of all their bells and whistles and smoke and mirrors, new unplugged versions of various FYE tracks hang together so comfortably and cohesively on Acoustic Live! The Pink-penned pop hit "Whataya Want From Me," the spandex-sheathed Justin Hawkins techno-glam stomper "Music Again," the wailing '80s-esque power ballad "Aftermath," Muse's majestic mini-rock-opera "Soaked"...electric, they were all so radically different that FYE could have been mistaken at times for a (really awesome) K-Tel compilation. But recorded acoustically, there's now a true common thread running through all these tracks. That golden-gossamer thread, of course, is Adam's impeccable voice. Fans who once complained that his magnificent vocals were too buried and technologically tweaked on FYE will be thrilled to hear his pure powerhouse performances here. And detractors who didn't dig Adam's schizophrenically eclectic approach on FYE--or who previously griped about his supposed "screaming" and "oversinging"--will find new appreciation here for what, basically, are great songs sung with newfound sophistication and restraint by a great talent. Period.

Among the EP's five tracks, it's no shocker that "WWFM" (one of the finest pop ballads of the past year) and the aforementioned Tears For Fears/Gary Jules cover "Mad World" (one of Adam's finest "Idol" moments) are stellar. Lambert could've been accompanied by a tissue paper and comb, or a kazoo, and those two tunes would have lost nothing in the translation. And "Soaked" was always so much about Adam's operatic belting anyway that this EP's stripped-down rendition doesn't even sound stripped at all; seriously, I scarcely even noticed that all those crashing guitars and swelling Bond-theme strings were suddenly missing.

The EP's biggest surprise, though, is "Aftermath," which benefits most from the unplugged approach, transforming from a Bic-flicking, showboating stadium-rocker into a sweetly inspirational campfire singalong. As for "Music Again," that cut admittedly does suffer a bit here (I miss the multitracked-and-stacked-to-the-heavens, Queen-like choir of a hundred harmonizing Adams, not to mention Justin Hawkins' crude-and-tattooed flying-V guitar solo), but that still didn't stop me from listening to the kinder, gentler "Music Again" again and again.

Why? Because this entire EP thrillingly places Adam's remarkable vocals front-and-center...and at the end of the day, that's what's most important and impressive about Lambert, as opposed all the glitter and gossip that perennially surrounds him. Really, the guy could've simply released an EP titled A Cappella Live! and it would have been just as enjoyable.

Adam Lambert goes Acoustic

Bombast is one of Adam Lambert's biggest assets. He approaches every song with a ferocity that soars above most of today's pop stars.

Acoustic Live!, online today, brings the American Idol runner-up and recent Grammy nominee down a few notches. But his vocal prowess still anchors every song, which include fan-favorite nonsingles. (A limited run of physical copies on Lambert's website quickly sold out.)

Whataya Want From Me, Lambert's biggest radio hit, is slowed down for a reading that highlights his gorgeous vocal tone. It's just enough of a variation to feel fresh.

The kitschy Music Again was already a standout in its original, Rob Cavallo-produced studio version (and should have been a single). Here, the song is given a more modest treatment, and Lambert wails some of it in a lower key. Either way, it's still a fun ride.

The Glam Nation Tour provides a trio of tracks, including Aftermath, which boasts an effortless falsetto; and Mad World, Lambert's Idol high point. This take goes the opposite route, pumped up via guitars, drums and fan squeals.

The lush, lovely Soaked was a true moment in Lambert's live show, propelled by flawless, fearless vocals. That feeling is captured here and remains goosebump-worthy. (SERIOUSLY, Y'ALL.)

The only downside? At five tracks, Acoustic Live! is much too short. You'll likely be hitting the repeat button at least twice.

After a year of promoting his de but album, For Your Entertainment, Adam Lambert ekes out the last bit of promotion for the album with Acous tic Live!, an EP of songs from his de but taken from in-studio live concert performances. While limited to five songs, the EP does a nice job of bal ancing the glossy pop production of For Your Entertainment.
"Whataya Want from Me," which became Adam's first Top 10 single earlier this year, kicks off the EP. In its acoustic form,Adam's voice is allowed to breathe more than in the Max Martin-produced original track, which allows for some inter esting vocal flourishes. Similarly, the acoustic arrangement of "Music Again" strips out the glam-rock in­fluences of the original, bringing the focus squarely on Adam's vocals.
The rest of the tracks are taken from the acoustic portion of Adam's Glam Nation Tour from this past year. "Aftermath" loses its sound as a schlocky American Idol winner's song and takes on a stronger inspi rational vibe. Meanwhile, "Soaked" pales slightly here when compared to the studio version. "Mad World," the only song taken from Adam's Ameri can Idol run, caps off the EP in an arrangement that successfully adds some tempo and a definite beat to the song's arrangement.
Acoustic Live! manages to suc cessfully reinvent some of Adam's more popular songs. The only com plaint is the length — the EP is done almost as soon as it begins.

Adam Lambert’s Stripped Down ‘Acoustic Live!’ Is A Winner

After the release of Adam Lambert‘s amped up and highly produced debut CD For Your Entertainment, some may have forgotten that Lambert was perhaps the most talented vocalist ever to appear on American Idol. One listen to his new Acoustic Live! though is a sudden reminder that beneath all the glam and glitz is one incredible voice.

The five song EP consists of four songs from For Your Entertainment as well as an uptempo cover of Lambert’s signature Idol tune, Tears For Fears‘ Mad World.

Lambert’s big single, Whataya Want From Me, loses nothing in the transition, possibly bringing even more intensity to the plaintive ballad.

Stripped down versions of Aftermath and Soaked also let Lambert demonstrate the vocal pyrotechnics he does so well.

Acoustic Live! is a great supplement to For Your Entertainment for fans. Fans of Lambert’s Idol performances who were less than thrilled with For Your Entertainment‘s production values may also be willing to give him another chance after a listen to Acoustic Live!

Adam's Acoustic Live! - EP debuts on the Billboard 200 at #126 with approximately 10,000 in sales! This is quite impressive considering it got zero promo and was only available on digital outlets and Adam's official website

In case anyone is interested, AdamOfficial.com re-stocked physical copies of the EP and orders are being placed. The 2nd printing has a red label instead of the original blue.

Only the early (Cd & poster) shipment got reported. I just received my shipment today so I believe those will get reported next week. I believe 50% weren't reported.
