335k probably isn't enough for a Gold certification. If Rated R's 600k and I Look To You's 800k were enough for a platinum certification then 335k should be enough for a gold one. No? I think so...especially if they recieved their certs way before crossing that threshold.

Toni Braxton's Libra was certified Gold and it didn't even scan 400k.

Well I think it was pretty clear to the label that Rihanna's album is going to be on track to sell 1 million or so within the year, same with Whitney. I'm sure Christina's GH will be certified Gold at some point in the not so distant future but again it's not like it's selling 20-30k a week. It's in the lower reaches of the chart, but it looks to be chugging along fairly decent.

It just depends on the label/artist too.

Yep. It depends. Hilary Duff's Dignity did only around 300k and was certified gold.

No. Both albums were out during the busy Christmas shopping season. Whitney is now around ~935k. Rihanna was certified when her album was in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200.

Yep. It depends. Hilary Duff's Dignity did only around 300k and was certified gold. Actually, Dignity has sold over 400k last time sales figures came out.

Didn't Jessica Simpson's 'A Public Affair' go Gold when it was at like 250k whilst plummeting down the chart?

That's because the album was over-shipped initially and thus eligible for Gold.
Once copies are returned to the label because of unexpected/bigger than expected floppage those copies can not be applied towards certifications.
