Too bad. It was nice seeing the sales numbers. I wish Nielsen would realize that releasing the numbers for the two main charts (BB200 and Hot 100) would be good for the music business and so also good for them.

If they released their numbers to everyone for free, no one would have any reason to pay them.

Has the Timbaland ft Katy Perry track been officially released to radio yet? I'm surprised at how small the increases are and has actually been slightly decreasing this week. IMO, the song is catchy and fun, I'd love to see this one do well. If it has been officially released, is radio slow at picking this up (probably because they can't find a slot for it in between 15 spins of Rude Boy and Nothing On You per day) or has it officially tanked? it was sent to radio while carry out was still gaining, and its just having trouble now, i personally love the track and think it should at least be top 20 on the hot 100

^That's awesome for him! Does Lady A have a chance of beating Jason Mraz' longevity record on the Hot 100? maybe but micheal buble may, his song is gaining on pop right now and has 30 weeks on so far

09 12 02 B.o.B Featuring Hayley Williams Of Paramore, Airplanes - I didn't know it was in the Top 10 already. This will have no problem going #1.
12 17 15 Jay-Z + Mr. Hudson, Young Forever - Will it do as well as RTT and ESOM?
20 28 04 Lady GaGa, Alejandro - Love it.
22 22 29 OneRepublic, All The Right Moves - I didn't know this was still going. It was struggling below the Top 50 the last time I checked.
58 83 03 Alicia Keys, Un-Thinkable (I'm Ready) - I predict a Top 40 peak.
62 68 06 T.I., I'm Back - This should do well.
72 NE 01 B.o.B Featuring T.I. & Playboy Tre, Bet I - I love it now.

I'm realizing that "Telephone" is Gaga's first hit to actually peak higher on the Hot 100 than it did on both the sales and airplay charts. song / hot 100 / sales / airplay Telephone 3 / 4 / 4 Bad Romance 2 / 1 / 2 Paparazzi 6 / 3 / 1 LoveGame 5 / 2 / 4 Poker Face 1 / 1 / 2 Just Dance 1 / 1 / 3 If it weren't for Paparazzi's Hot 100 peak, every single would have gone top 5 on all 3 major charts. I'm doubting Alejandro will follow this trend but you never know... No. Telephone reached 3 on the Hot digital Songs chart. You do know Lady A(aka Lady Antebellum)is actually a band with 2 guys and a girl? And they are still a good 30+ weeks a way. but they are still top 5 and actually moved up this week. 52 weeks looks like a sure bet at least :) And nice new #8 peak for Ke$ha :) Lol. Of course I know. But somehow for me the Lady part in their name confuses a lot, and I end up calling them "she".

They're not close but they're on their 37th chart week and they're still in the top-5 with a bullet. Jason was at #12 on his 37th week. I know there are a lot of other factors though. It will be interesting to see how long they are on the chart for.

Yes, but the Billboard 200 album chart and the Hot 100 chart are the two MAIN charts that Billboard is known for and everybody knows it.

With "Glee"/Madonna on the charts this week, I inquired to Ask Billboard about Madge's digital sales- updated total included for "4 Minutes."
WHAT'S THAT GIRL'S SALES?
Hi Gary,
With "Glee: the Music, the Power of Madonna" at No. 1 on this week's Billboard 200 and her own "Celebration" album receiving a boost, re-entering at No. 86, it's gotten me thinking about Madonna's best-selling digital songs.
Could you please provide totals for her five best-selling tracks since 2005 (when digital sales began contributing to the Billboard Hot 100) and her 10 best-selling hits before then? That way, no newer tracks (i.e., "4 Minutes" or "Hung Up") that fans had the chance to purchase from the time of their release "unfairly" rank above older songs.
Also, what are Madonna's overall digital songs sales?
Thank you and keep up the good work,
Jim Radenhausen Reeders, Pennsylvania
Hi Jim,
The spotlight on Madonna has certainly benefitted both "Glee" and the Queen of Pop. Make sure to check our Billboard cover story on the show, as well.
I, like millions of other viewers, thought that the "Glee" cast did a great job covering Madonna's catalog. Two personal favorite highlights from the April 20 episode: Lea Michele and Cory Monteith's walk-and-sing mash-up of "Borderline" and "Open Your Heart" - complete with Madonna look-alikes of various eras in the background - and Amber Riley's powerful solo on "Like a Prayer."
As requested, here is a look at the digital sales to-date, according to Nielsen SoundScan through the week ending April 25, of Sue Sylvester's musical hero:
Top-Selling Madonna Titles Released Since 2005: 2,751,000, "4 Minutes" 1,200,000, "Hung Up" 358,000, "Sorry" 316,000, "Give It 2 Me" 192,000, "Celebration"
Top-Selling Madonna Titles Released Before 2005: 443,000, "Like a Prayer" 322,000, "Material Girl" 311,000, "Vogue" 293,000, "Ray of Light" 260,000, "Holiday" 240,000, "Like a Virgin" 217,000, "Music" 211,000, "Crazy for You" 189,000, "Santa Baby" 184,000, "Die Another Day"
Madonna has sold 11.6 million digital songs to date.
Two other Madonna-related items of note. Billboard 200 chart manager Keith Caulfield points out that "Glee" contributes to a first in the chart's 54-year history. With "Glee: the Music, the Power of Madonna" entering at No. 1 and the AC/DC-infused soundtrack "Iron Man 2" starting at No. 4, this week marks the first time that two soundtracks have debuted simultaneously in the top five.
And, Sia, whose "Breathe me" accompanied the touching closing montage on the last episode of HBO's "Six Feet Under" in 2005, covers Madonna's "Oh Father" on her new album, "We Are Born." The set is due June 8.

I think that LAP can safely be called Madonna's signature song at this point. Everyone knows LAV but LAP is covered more, has sold more downloads, and she performs it more often.

^Not sure if someone with a catalog like hers has just one signature song. Both "Virgin" and "Prayer" have enjoyed similar acclaim levels, but "Prayer" is the stronger track and, aside from sales, gets a load more recurrent play than "Virgin."

"Like A Prayer" may be her most popular song(one of them anyway), but "Like A Virgin" is when she went from being just another popular female singer to superstar MADONNA. The importance of LAV in her career should not be underestimated, it was HUGE for her.

Well, LAV was huge, but I think that the impact that LAP made was by far greater, and for me, that's her signature song.

"Virgin" was the more important song, no doubt. But "Prayer" was the stronger song, and resonates more with the casual listener, as evidenced by recurrent airplay stats, and download sales, both of Madonna and the "Glee" tracks.

And internationally LAV isn't anywhere near being her biggest chart or sales hit or most remembered track.

But historically, LAV is the song that transformed Madonna from a promising pop star to a pop music icon. Without LAV there would have never been LAP. Sometimes it's not always about stats (what sold more etc ) Low from Flo Rida is one of the biggest airplay and digital songs ever, is it more influential LAV? I bet if you were to ask people ages 30-55 what Madonna song is her signature I bet you they'd say LAV.

Unlike a lot of Madonna's work, "Low" wasn't a very acclaimed piece of music, so not the best comparison. :)
"Like a Virgin" was the first major cultural touchstone in Madonna's work (the first album had some, but with "Virgin," it just exploded). Madonna has so many classic, sustainable and revered tracks (regardless of chart peaks) that it's tough to pinpoint one as the signature. You could run off the 15 classics on The Immaculate Collection, for instance, to people and have them give multiple answers to what her signature song is- so, I agree with PDC on that.
Brining things back to this week's Hot 100- at the rate things are going, "Glee" could end up having more Hot 100 entries than The Beatles in a year's time. lol

Didn't realize how many 1m+ sellers Kelly Clarkson had.
What about I Do Not Hook Up?
And does Because of You combine the Reba version or is that tracked separately?

^"I Do Not Hook Up" wasn't close to 1m scanned- there was a mini-discussion not too long ago, about how the digital sales were disappointing, compared to the lead and third singles.
I would imagine that the Reba/Kelly version of "Because of You" counts separate from the original- for instance, when it charted, its sales were not combined with the original version.

So Kelly has had 8 songs sell 1m+
MY LIFE WOULD SUCK WITHOUT YOU - KELLY CLARKSON - 2,311,000 SINCE U BEEN GONE - KELLY CLARKSON - 2,235,000 BECAUSE OF YOU - KELLY CLARKSON - 1,465,000 BREAKAWAY - KELLY CLARKSON - 1,413,000 ALREADY GONE - KELLY CLARKSON - 1,344,000 BEHIND THESE HAZEL EYES - KELLY CLARKSON - 1,310,000 NEVER AGAIN - KELLY CLARKSON - 1,106,000 WALK AWAY - KELLY CLARKSON - 1,094,000
I am guessing someone else must have had more than 8 by now but I'm not sure who.
I'm not sure how many these artists have had: Rihanna, Kanye West, T.I., Jay-Z, Beyonce, Justin Timberlake, T-Pain, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, Black Eyed Peas
I believe Lady Gaga has 6 so far, but could hit 7 with Alejandro.

I think various people would say several different songs if asked that question. I agree with that and would add that Madonna's songs more or less every song of Madonna's have left a Legacy of their own, hence a poll would indeed reveal different results as to "which is Madonna's signature song".
