#TheTruth is the third highest trending topic on Twitter right now. Pretty cool. Well, to be fair, #TheTruth is an easy thing to get trending once it makes the top 10 (and EW's Michael Slezak & Kris's wife helped that happen). Once it makes Top 10 then people start tweeting things that have nothing to do with the song, like Bruno Mars just tweeted: "#thetruth is i couldnt have done it without Jesus." That's the point. So, great twitter-friendly song choice then?

I downloaded from Itunes and surprisingly I like it. The radio edit made the shorter and the tempo is a bit faster, so it's much more radio friendly. Wish they got rid of Pat and had Kris sing the whole song by himself, but I'm growing to like the duet as I gave it a few more listens.....
Hopefully all the Kris stans would stop the negativity. I'm ready to embrace this as 2nd single and give it 100% my support.

I'm embracing it, and I'm hoping it succeeds. I know it will be an uphill battle, but I'll request it as much as possible. That being said...... WTF were they thinking? OK. Now I'll embrace it.

Did #tt make #1 on Twitter? When I looked it was #2.

Still, it is the most stupid second single choice that I've ever seen. I can't think of a worse one. You KA fans and I use the word loosely are the worst excuse for a support base that I have ever observed. You are hell bent on forcing him to fail in the face of success. This song is blowing up despite the 11 fans that keep trying to tank it. It was the same way with the Script's Live like We Were Dying... Kris is very fortunate to have the friends that he has writing for him. You are the most ignorant fans ever assembled, particularly when it comes to knowing what is in Kris's best interest. When this song gives his career another huge boost, you morons will change your tune and give Kris credit for the song's success, pan his label, mgmt company, and Pat Monahan. If the song would have failed you would have done the opposite. I pray Kris gets a base of fans that don't suck.. because I would rather pump gas than put up with the mind dead idiots that comprise his current fan base!... No offense though.

^^^ In other words, if you do not get on The Truth train, you suck as fans and should flounce.

Huh? Kris has one of the most loyal fanbases of any Idol. We helped #TheTruth trend at #2 on twitter, we support him against haters who say crap like he cheated to win the show and we travel all around the country to go to his concerts. Just because someone doesn't like the choice of The Truth as a single doesn't make them a bad fan. Also Pat Monahan and Kris aren't friends -- as far as I know, they've never even met. Pat wrote this song, decided he didn't want to record it, and then somehow decided to submit to to Kris's management.
I prefer the album version over the single version of this song, but I still bought it off iTunes and I am trying my best to support it. I want the song to do well, as its success will determine whether Kris gets a 3rd single off his album -- hopefully one he had a hand in writing.
Anyway, the good news is that The Truth has cracked the Top 100 on the overall Itunes chart (currently #93) and the Top 50 on the iTunes pop chart (currently #47).
It also picked up its first Top 40 add, from a station in Florence, SC

So many feelings, I don't know what to do with them all! No, but seriously, I think this song is going to be fine. Contrary to popular belief, a lot of people DO like this song, the fanbase just has this complex with it. I'm hoping for Top 10 HAC, and a moderate amount of pop crossover.

LMAO... post of the day! I especially love the 'no offense though' thrown in at the end of this ridiculous tirade. In other news, TT is at #92 right now! :o. This is performing much more strongly out of the gate than I would have ever expected. I don't think 'Before We Come Undone' would be doing so well initially in all honesty. That one's a slow grower... it takes a few listens to really get into. 'The Truth' is very much like David Cook's 'Come Back to Me' IMO. Both good songs, but both very unlikely to become Pop hits. I'll still hold out hope for this... I love Kris and he could really use another hit. I'm quoting myself from the LLWD thread... I was one of the few (only?) to remain a little optimistic about this choice for second single from the beginning.

IIRC, the album version of The Truth is the second highest-selling (after LLWD) single way before it was confirmed as the 2nd single. This song may do better with the masses than expected.
I will roll on the floor laughing for a whole hour if this song does really well on Pop after all the doom and gloom predictions. And then when the 3rd single comes out, I'll write an angry diatribe about it and post it on every website and blog. Cos apparently, Kris's single needs to be maligned to death to be successful.

Hey, it's a strategy that worked for LLWD. I always say, why change a good thing? That said, omg The Truth is going to faaaiiilll. His career is over! His label hates him. etc etc etc

LOL.. you and samalone are the perfect examples of Kris's fans.. never mind that I told you children that this was the next release off of his albumn .. never mind that Pat wrote it and that his cred on the hot ac charts is pulling it up, forget all of that. Pat has no need want or desire to be involved with you ungrateful pieces of pittle.!! If Kris has not met Pat then shame on Kris because his reps begged for Pat to help Kris with his career.. Obviously Pat has everything to lose and nothing to gain.. ( Certainly not gaining Kris Allen fans). but as I said before Pat has more heart and talent then business accumen.. otherwise he never would have sullied himself with your ilk!! Enjoy Pat's song writing and his HOT AC Pull...Thank God Kris's label and mgmt team knows what they are doing because his fans are a bunch of short bus riding window licking retards!! No offense

Zarasthustra, I'm really enjoying your posts. Your "No offense" at the end really reminds me of a serial killer's signature that he leaves behind on his victims, like a lock of hair or thumb.

It's not about whether the song is good or not, or whether we like it or not. When has that ever mattered? I happen to love the song just fine. But it will not do well on Pop. It won't sell a lot, and it won't sell the album. That's what Kris fans have rightfully been complaining about.
He doesn't need Pat's minor HAC cred. He just had a top 3 hit there on his own. Pat makes the song worse. All legitimate things to complain about. Also, the song is not "blowing up". It's slowly crawling up on HAC and this new version will drop out of the top 500 on iTunes in a few days.
Nothing wrong with being realistic.

LOL I love zarasthustra. I'm optimistic that this song will do okay. It probably won't become a hit but I will be satisfied with a Top 30 peak on CHR/Pop. I don't think the fan favorite 'BWCU' will do any better than that. The album is so weak, I don't think any songs left are Top 10 materials.

Color me skeptical, but I don't think Zarasthustra is really a Kris fan -- comes off as a Train stan who wants to give Pat Monahan all the credit for whatever success this song has. Which is rather silly -- that's like giving The Script all the credit for LLWD's success. Jive didn't "beg" him to help Kris -- more than likely, when he submitted the song, the label promised him it would be released as a single. Happens all the time when well known artists get cuts on albums that aren't their own. It is Kris who is gong to be performing it on t.v. and around the country in concert -- not Pat. So the success/failure of the song lies far more on Kris than it does on Pat. No one is going to blame the Train frontman if the song flops, will they? (which it won't, it'll do fine -- at least on the Hot AC/AC charts. TBD if it does anything in Top 40)
Anyway, the song continues to move steadily up the iTunes chart -- #86 overall when I checked a half-hour ago

I couldn't find the LLWD thread, so I'll post this here... Congratulations to Kris for becoming the first-ever Idol alum to crack the Top 10 on Billboard's Pop, Hot AC (a.k.a. Adult Pop) and AC charts with his/her debut single. LLWD really is the little song that could, defying all kinds of early expectations. "ADULT ENTERTAINMENT: Kris Allen pushes 11-10 on Adult Contemporary with "Live Like We're Dying." The 2009 "American Idol" champ is the show's 10th former contestant to reach the chart's top 10, following Kimberley Locke (seven top 10s), Kelly Clarkson and Chris Daughtry (with Daughtry) (four each), Clay Aiken, David Cook, and Carrie Underwood (two each) and David Archuleta, Jordin Sparks and Elliott Yamin (one). With "Live Like We're Dying" having peaked at No. 3 on Adult Pop Songs and No. 10 on Pop Songs, Allen is the series' first graduate to send a debut single into the top 10 on all three charts." www.billboard.com/column/chartbeat/...tory?tag=hpfeed

Pat's addition doesn't really bother me much like most of you guys do. I don't think it's needed at all but yeah a radio edit is needed and including Pat's vocals doesn't hurt either.
