I didn't know they were country.
Wait, I just listened to their song and, either I know nothing about country (probably), or this song doesn't sound country at all.

Well, I'm rooting for them to succeed because I've followed them since winning Great American Band. But this is nothing like the stuff I used to hear from them, and I agree, not country (or even semi-country).

Not country at all and it won't get alot of country airplay, but it's still good music.

You have to go back eight years and three identities to find my favorite song.

I'm surprised they didn't wait until Carrie released "What Can I Say" to send this out...
That being said ... this song has nothing to do with country music, lol.
Their "Revelation" album cover also makes them look more like a rock band... ???

A) This isn't country and I'll be shocked if it gets any airtime on any radio station.
B) I hope everyone who chose this band over SIXWIRE to win "Next Great American Band" is happy with their decision.

I have to say I am surprised they are being labeled as country. From what I have read in critic reviews on the tour is that they have a lot of energy but more rock then country. I enjoy them but I would not label them as country either.

I don't like the song. I'm not sure why this is marketed as country either.

I never watched that show so no one got my vote, but I have to say that this groupw would have easily gotten my vote over 6wire. Also, I could care less about the genre and I've stated this before and I'll state it again. Good music is good music, so to me I could care less what it's "labelled". Listening to this song right now, and being that this is the first time I've heard anything by them, I have to say I'm quite impressed.

This is the Ryan Tedder co-write and it sounds like one. The song is very catchy, but it doesn't sound country to me either.

^But that's the thing, Steelo, in this case it's NOT good music.
Ugh what is it with artists falsely labeling themselves as Country. First Taylor now this band. Song's kinda generic and boring. Especially the chorus.

At least Taylor started out county (well, pop-country) before making the transition on her second record. This is just blatant pop music that has no business on country airwaves. It may be good pop music, I'm not the right person to judge that, but I couldn't make it past the first chorus before turning it off.

Taylor is still country...her songs just appeal to such a wide range of audience that they crossover, and she sees the success in that so I don't see that trend changing. However, although she's not as country as George Strait or Alan Jackson, she is still country and that's what she wants to be, her albums will be under the country genre and her singles will be released to country radio. Anyway, this thread is about Sons of Sylvia. I haven't formed an opinion on this song yet, but I'll let y'all know when I do.

I never said it was bad music and, to be honest, I never said I didn't like it. I said it wasn't country and probably wouldn't be played on a country station. I agree that good music is good music regardless of what format it may or may not fall into.

The more I listen to this the more I LOVE this. It is cleverly written and the instrumentation keeps the song extremely interesting throughout...I hope they get an album out soon.

U2 or Kings of Leon with mandolins. That is what this song is. They're not even on a country label and had 19 wanted them on a country label, they'd have left them on Universal Records South. When the band's decision to change from Clark Brothers to Sons of Sylvia, it was probably gonna always have them go this route.

Is this actually being sent to country radio? ???
They did an acoustic performance and interview for a Mix station, which I presume is Hot AC. Performance:

It's actually a catchy song now that I had a chance to hear it a few times.
It would probably do well, and they could be a popular group in another genre - just not country.

I'm getting the impression they're not trying to go country. Even their EP on iTunes is labeled "pop." And, as per the post above and from a few other things I've seen, they seem to be pushing for Hot AC/AC.
Apparently when they were called The Clark Brothers, they had a much more bluegrass, country sound. Since they've renamed themselves Sons of Sylvia, they seem to be going in a different direction with their sound.
Perhaps the confusion stems from the fact that they're currently on a tour with two other country acts (Carrie Underwood and Craig Morgan), but I'm not sure they're actually trying to be a country act.

Not a bad song. I wish them well...........................on a format other than country. Not even a tiny bit of country in this song.
