Ameriie Gets MarriedBy Amy Brotherton and Marisa Laudadio Saturday June 25, 2011 10:30 PM EDT R&B singer Ameriie only had "1 Thing" important to say this weekend ā I do. The Grammy-nominated recording artist, 30, married former Columbia Records executive Lenny Nicholson on Saturday on Anguilla in the British West Indies. "This is such an exciting time for me. This is my first marriage and I am over the moon," Ameriie told PEOPLE. "I look forward to a loving and enduring marriage. This day couldn't come any sooner for me. I am beyond thrilled. I will remember this day forever." Though it may have been an island wedding, the bride didn't opt for a simple white sheath and bare feet, instead wowing the guests in a Monique Lhullier gown complete with a dramatic cathedral train, baby blue Yves Saint Laurent Tribute sandals and jewelry by Rafaello & Co. Her hair was styled into an edgy up-do, decorated with strings of diamonds and pearls. The groom wore a Hugo Boss tuxedo. With the bride's pastor, Reverend Phillip E. Knight, Sr. officiating at the ceremony, the couple held their wedding, reception and associated events at the luxury resort Viceroy Anguilla. Platinum Wedding planner Tiffany Nieves-Cook created an opulent romantic setting for the "Platinum Style" wedding, while Washington, D.C., florist Janet Flowers was responsible for the floral arrangements. The reception featured music spun by DJ Konflikt and a sea foam green seven-tier cake by pastry chef Yannis Janssens of Yann Chocolates. Every tier of the cake was a different flavor, and the couple had three cake tastings to make sure it would be perfect. The newlyweds are honeymooning at the resortās 5,000 sq.-ft. Romance Villa, complete with its own private beach.

I agree. She is too ambitious for a major label. I'm surprised she's even still signed by one.

I agree. She is too ambitious for a major label. I'm surprised she's even still signed by one. I am really shocked that Def Jam kept her on the roster after In Love & War[/b failed to scan 100k despite all of the money they spent on production and all the singles/video releases they funded. I thought for sure she would get the ax once L.A. Reid left since he was the one who brought her over there to begin with.

Teddy Riley, Jim Jonsin, Eric Hudson, Sean Garrett, Rico Love, Warryn Campbell, Bryan Michael Cox, Jonas Jeberg, plus a video directed by Anthony Mandler and Ray Kay each. They spent some money on that album.

They spent some money on that album. 'Tis true but then did absolutely nothing to promote it. This is my eternal gripe with these new 360 deals - they hurt artists like Amerie because she is not a "buzz" artists who people are on the lookout for. She has a core group of fans (like me) who check for album release dates and new material on youtube. I know that nowadays artists have to self-promote but some of them really need label push to get a project rolling. I'm as surprised as others that she hasn't been dropped and gone indie at this point. And I hate to say this but the album that really should've been pushed harder was BECAUSE I LOVE IT. She really had some great tracks on that album.

But I thought she left Def Jam? If she's still there, I'm surprised. I thought she was going to release Cymatika independently.

Does independently imply that she won't be using any label? I think having at least an indie label to back her would be a good idea.
I can't wait for a new single! It's been far too long.

Did Outside (Your Body) count as a single? It's still on her official site.

Those snippets were good.
My main issue with IDJ was that Ameriie's last album received no promo. "More than Love" & "Swagback" weren't sent to radio and they were the most single worthy tracks on that album. "Heard Em All" should have never been released as a single. The tired Wayne verse didn't help at all.

Q&A: AMERIIE EXPLORES FREEDOM, ANDROGYNY, & NEW WORLD ORDER ON NEW ALBUMAmeriie breaks out of the box and explores new territory on her fifth album Cymatika, Vol. 1, which includes unorthodox topics ranging from ancient astronaut theory to androgyny to new world order mixed with elements of trance, electronic, house, heavy drums, and new wave. āThereās a song about the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah with extraterrestrials destroying them with nuclear weapons,ā explained the Georgetown grad of āSodom & G.ā āI donāt feel like thatās really been done.ā Other tracks include the mechanical āIntimidation,ā āRun for Cover,ā and the likely first single āFireStarter (Private Dancer).ā āI really wanted to talk about the human experience,ā shared Ameriie. āI wanted to talk about other stuff, but in a way thatās still listenable.ā Rap-Up.com spoke with the newly married singer about what we can expect from her genre-bending album. How would you describe Cymatika, Vol. 1?This album is pretty much trance, electronic, elements of house, heavy drumsānot hip-hop in that sense, but drums that knockāand new wave with classic song structure. I probably finished about 80% of the project. Now what Iāve been focusing on is creating songs that really have strong essence of each of those elements in one song. I used dubstep ācause I love the gritty sound of it. Thatās my challenge right now is to take all of these five elements and combine them into one record. A lot of the topics are about us as human beingsāwho we really are on that level, not a physical level. One thing I was experimenting with from a vocal aspect was androgyny and approaching the vocal in an androgynous fashion. To me it represents the dropping away of the veil of whatās physical and on a spiritual level, weāre not really men or women or age, weāre ageless eternal spirits without gender, without sex, so the androgyny symbolizes thatāand of course itās fun. A lot of the songs donāt really sound like me. I think Iām gonna have to start putting out albums every year because thatās the only way I can keep up with myself creatively. Albums are bookmarks of where I am creatively. I really want to put out more albums. Who are you working with?Riley Urick. Heās really talented. He has a great ear for what you want and he works with a crew of guys too. I worked with Andre Harris, formerly of Dre & Vidal. He did about half of the album. Does the album have a theme? The theme of the album is what it means to be human. I have songs about not being intimidated by society and what people think you should be, not wanting to be chic, kinda wanting to have your own identity and not feel like you have to follow the crowd. I also talk about self-suppression and how sometimes we suppress the feelings that we have or the ideas that we have. Iām into ancient astronaut theory, so Iāve combined my love for that into a song called āSodom & G.ā I basically compare the end of a relationship to the end of those cities. I make reference to me wanting to look back at the relationship when I still want to hold on just for a little bit longer before I totally relinquish it. Underneath that layer is the layer that Sodom and Gomorrah is not just being destroyed, but is being destroyed by nuclear weaponsāall in a very listenable song. How was the recording process different from the past?I love to create moods and create sounds. Music is all vibration so I love to experiment. When you break out of a genre, you really have the freedom to do whatever you want. In all my situations, Iāve always had creative freedom so I never felt like the label was trying to get me to do something. However, it wasnāt until I really, really felt free that I realized that I felt a freedom that I didnāt even feel before when I felt free before. Right now, the page that Iām on is Iāma do what I want, and I always felt like I was like that. I do what I want and how I want to do it. There were parts of me that werenāt really ready to totally do what I wanted. No one else was holding me back. It was just myself. Itās kinda like [one of the new tracks] āRun for Cover,ā itās like running from yourself and youāll eventually run out of places to hide. What inspired you this time around? The things that inspired me on this album were everything from fire to the color red to any indigenous people, like with the chanting on āSodom & G.ā Also machines and machinery to ideas of new world order to who we are as spiritual beings. I was like, āFā it. Iāma do what I want.ā I donāt care if it sounds really crazy. What can you share about the first single, āFireStarter (Private Dancer)ā?On the surface, itās about having fun, dancing the night away basically. A certain part of the song is fun, but it also speaks to our ālook at meā culture a little bit. Itās kinda how everyone wants to be in the spotlight, not necessarily being in entertainment, just in some form. And kinda like how the world is a stage and how we are all the creator of our own reality. The hook goes, āāCause everybody in this whole wide world wants to be somebody in this world.ā Itās very subtle, I donāt go deep into it like in the other songs. Letās talk about āIntimidationāā¦When I did the vocals on āIntimidation,ā that was different. When I hear that song, I hear stark warehouse, people being systematically programmed into doing certain things every day, living in the system, living in the matrix, living under certain rules. When you live under certain guidelines and rules, eventually youāll adopt them yourself and then you donāt have to control the population because everyone controls themselves. It has this driving beat, itās like a big, heavy beat, but it almost feels like machinery. What do you hope people take from this album? For this project, people will really know me because itās not just about romance, itās about other stuff in general and what I believe. If they listen to the CD, they can actually come away with it and say, āI know her and what sheās about.ā www.rap-up.com/2011/07/25/qa-ameriie-explores-freedom-androgyny-new-world-order-on-new-album

Biddie's sounding crazy as anything in that interview but I'm excited for this. The way she speaks about her music is reminding me of Janelle MonƔe and that can only be a good thing for this project. Maybe this weirdness will get her some attention and she can finally lose her image as a forgotten run-of-the-mill R&B chick?
