LET’S GO GET STONE Atlantic Supergroup with First New Album in Nine Years Gets Edge Over Glee for #1May 26, 2010What better way to celebrate Memorial Day weekend than by kicking back with a few brews, smoking some animal flesh on the barbeque and digging on Stone Temple Pilots’ first new album in nine years? If one-day sales figures from those fine record retailers who haven’t chucked it all for swampland on the Gulf of Mexico are any indication, approximately 65-70k of Americans will do just that, snapping up enough copies of the Pilots’ Atlantic Records album to make it #1 on next Tuesday’s HITS sales chart. The self-titled release is the band’s first since 2001’s Shangri-La Dee Da. Columbia’s Glee: The Music, Vol. 3 Showstoppers rides the coattails of last night’s Lady Gaga tribute to remain in the mix for a possible run at the top spot, depending on whether it can sustain that momentum through the weekend. Awaiting the onslaught of high visibility releases in June, starting with next Tuesday’s Jack Johnson album on Brushfire, the next highest chart debut will be registered by Watertower/ Fontana’s Sex and the City 2 album at 25-30k. Sidewalk/ Curb’s Hank Williams III album is up next at 15-18k, followed by a wide range of albums in the 10-15k area, including Island/ IDJ’s Rihanna, Roadrunner metal standby Soulfly and Widespread Records’ veteran jam band Widespread Panic. The market was flat vs. last week, down 19% vs. same week last year and still down 10% year to date. And you thought BP had problems with an oil spill. HITS News

But very horrible numbers still. :(
I'm actually hoping that Jack Johnson can push 200K next week.
EDIT: RiRi's releasing a remix album.

Hopefully STP will sell in that range, and not flirt with a record-low total for #1 in the SoundScan era.

Nice for STP, although I thought they'd sell a bit higher.

When will Gaga's The Remix be released? It's been out couple of weeks in Europe.

Yay STP! Too bad the total is so low though...hopefully the album will have some staying power. It's a great album, so here's hoping.

YOUR MEMORIAL DAY WEAKEND CHART PREVIEW
Stone Temple Pilots should edge out the Glee Cast for #1 on next week's album chart, with projected sales between 65-70k. Nope, we’re under triple digits again, but never fear, Jack Johnson’s coming (make that strumming) to the rescue next Tuesday. The soundtrack to Sex and the City 2 may debut higher than projected if the movie has a strong opening. For now, though, here's the Top 15 headed into the holiday weekend:
Stone Temple Pilots (Atlantic) 65-70k Glee Cast, Vol. 3: Showstoppers (Columbia) 55-60k Justin Bieber, My World 2.0 (Island/IDJ) 50-55k Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 50-55k Usher (LaFace/JLG) 30-35k * Sex and the City 2 (Watertower) 27-30k Lady Gaga, The Fame (Interscope) 27-30k Brooks & Dunn (Arista Nashville) 24-27k Nas and Damian Marley (Universal Republic) 24-27k Black Keys (Nonesuch) 19-22k Godsmack (Universal Republic) 19-22k AC/DC, Iron Man 2 (Columbia) 18-21k Now 33 (Capitol/EMI) 18-21k B.O.B (Atlantic) 18-21k Ke$ha (RCA/RMG) 17-20k Carole King & James Taylor (Hear Music) 17-20k * Denotes debut You may now return to looking for a great deal on a barbecue. Christina Aguilera will have a #1 album for sure, no doubt even if she sells only 90K. I predict atleast for her, 140K+.

Don't be suprised to see Carrie Underwood jump back up into the top 15-20 after Idol and the Brooks & Dunn appearances.

Good to see B.o.B still hovering around the top 15. And Carole King and James Taylor could get another week there as well.

Are they trying to release alll of her contractually obligated material. Didnt she sign a 7 album deal. MOTS AGLM GGGB Remixed GGGB RR now a remix. Upcoming album. I hope this mean they are trying to reup and renogotiate her for a better contract worth more money.

An alternate theory to the Christina vs Glee for #1 debate.
Neither will come close.
Here is why:
Jack Johnson is releasing an album 6/1 (an easy #1 for that week)
His 2nd week of sales will compete with the Glee finale EP (which should do numbers comparable to its previous editions - 100K or so) and the Twilight soundtrack
Both Jack Johnson's 2nd week and Twilight should easily top 100K

i honestly see Gaga spending another 2 years on Soundscan. This is phenomenal. It will be on Soundscan forever actually. As long as people will buy the album it will count towards its overall total. The top 200 is a different matter

It will depend on how many people watch the Glee finale, but seems like Christina will have to debut at #4, if not lower. Jack, Twilight and Glee will outsell her.

Yep. With interscope though they wont care to even certify it probably in a year or so. I'm still waiting for Eminem to get his Diamond for the Marshall Mathers L.P.
Cheap ******** at interscope.

I understand you, but usually, actual sales are more mentioned in press releases than certifications, unless it's a pre-Soundscan release. Certifications don't really mean a lot in this market, at least, that's how I see it. They can also be misleading, since they show shipments instead of sales. For example, Hilary Duff's Dignity is certified Gold when it didn't even sell 350k, and in the other hand, Relapse sold almost 2,000,000 copies and it's uncertified. I think looking at the Soundscan numbers gives you a better idea of an album's success.

Oh i agree with you Choco.
But, It would just be nice to use a diamond line in an argument with Eminem haters. lol.
But i see what you mean. It's the soundscan numbers that matter. No doubt.
