Wow, what a flop. ;)
I have observed that sales have spiked recently. Does anybody think this has anything to do with her new single release?

Wow, what a flop. ;) I have observed that sales have spiked recently. Does anybody think this has anything to do with her new single release? I hope so... it could also be because of the promo she has done in the UK. I think Scheisse in particular will spike album sales worldwide (even if they keep declining in the US). Hopefully MTN will also be able to keep the sales rolling in!

This special is really good! Gaga is AMAZING. I agree. What a great special that was. I loved all of her performances, but man she just really sings Hair so beautifully whilst on the piano. On top of the great performances, she also looked really beautiful. The eating the food while performing Bad Romance was a bit funny, and I loved that. So, yeah, her doing this special was a really cool thing to do, and I look forward to her doing something like this again someday.

These are great #s, but wth did people get 8mil WW from? 'Born This Way' has shipped 8 million copies, and actually sold nearly 5 million. When a label or artist says "copies sold," they include shipments, because retailers and music clubs have to purchase the album for a wholesale price from the label before selling it themselves. So technically 8 million copies HAVE been purchased, whether from retailers looking to sell the album, or customers purchasing it.

Shipments give early certifications, and that's fine, but it isn't the reality of it all. i think Mediatraffic is the most reliable source we've got. When anyone quotes something, it's almost always from that site. I have no reason to NOT go by that site for rough estimates of what's being sold worldwide. It seems to be the standard these days.

Soundscan numbers show only what was sold by retailers. I was just saying that in the labels eyes, saying the album sold 8 million copies is actually very true- because retailers have to purchase every album they expect to sell in their own stores as well. Obviously people go by what was only sold to customers. Was just saying why the label said 8 million.

So I hear she dragged Taylor's thanksgiving wig and stuffed it right back up the turkey last night. :o Not gonna lie, my facebook feed was blowing up with a lot of people raving about it.

I am not sure if there was any autotune on her voice, but during the parts of the special that I saw, her voice sounded the best it has ever sounded, IMO. Very clear, singing mostly from her diaphragm, varying volumes with her register. I was HIGHLY impressed throughout.

I personally don't think any worldwide number will ever be 100% accurate. Some countries don't even really have any type of counting or soundscan. Mediatraffic even admits this though they say that they don't include certain countries so sales could be even higher. It is a good estimate and nothing else. Sometimes people cite shipped or sold and mix them up though and I do wish we could standardize that somehow. Like, Rihanna has shipped 6 million+ for Loud, but sold around 5. Gaga has shipped 7-8 but only sold 5. You can see the same with pretty much every artist. I mention both of them because I feel like correcting fans every time I see one of them say "Gaga sold 7 or 8 million!" or "Rihanna sold over 6!" because it is shipped and not sold. There are shipped numbers labels brag about and then (to some) more accurate sold numbers. However, they aren't necessarily more accurate because the label is paid for them. The label cares what they are paid for and not necessarily what happens afterwards UNLESS what happens afterward results in needing more shipments or if they grossly over-shipped. I wish we could designate which one we are talking about or at least commonly refer to one and not the other (shipped and sold) but I guess that isn't realistic.
I am hoping Gaga eventually hits 6 million SOLD and 8 certified. I think that will be a more than decent showing for her and really in recent years only beaten by Adele and maybe Coldplay or someone else I am forgetting recently.

Watching that Thanksgiving special last night made me fall even more in love with GaGa. I was ridiculously impressed with her voice last night. I think she could do a Jazz album and completely blow everyone away. I also have to say that not only did she sound amazing, she looked absolutely gorgeous!

TV Ratings: Lady Gaga's Thanksgiving Special Boosts ABC, CBS Wins Night
"A Very Gaga Thanksgiving" drew 5.5 million viewers, up more than 1 million viewers from last year's telecast in the same period. On a quiet Thanksgiving evening, specials, movies and repeats ruled the roost on Thursday evening. The highest-profile program airing on primetime was Lady Gaga's much-anticipated (and hyped) 90-minute Thanksgiving special, which the singer conceived and directed herself. Featuring a slew of performances (one with Tony Bennett) and an interview wtih Katie Couric, A Very Gaga Thanksgiving (5.5 million total viewers, 1.6 rating in adults 18-49 demographic) proved to be beneficial for ABC, boosting the network's time period performance from last year (when it aired a Beyonce music special) by 23 percent in the core adults 18-49 demo and drew more than 1 million more viewers. The 90-minute special helped ABC post its best Thanksgiving ratings since 2007. Charlie Brown Thanksgiving drew slightly more viewers at 8 p.m., luring 5.7 million and averaging a higher 1.8 rating. But, A Very Gaga Thanksgiving was not the highest-rated or most-watched program of the night. That honor goes to CBS, which dominates even with reruns of top-rated and most-watched The Big Bang Theory (11.2 million, 3.6) and Rules of Engagement (7.9 million, 2.4). An encore of Person of Interest (8 million, 1.7) topped the 9 p.m. hour and a rerun of The Mentalist (7.8 million, 1.5) also helped the network win in the demo (2.1) and total viewers (8.4 million). Fox followed CBS in the demo with a 1.7 demo average. ABC placed third with a 1.6 in primetime. NBC, airing Horton Hears a Who (3.7 million, 1.1), placed fourth. The CW followed. www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/tv-ratings-lady-gaga-thanksgiving-special-266338tv.yahoo.com/news/ratings-very-gaga-thanksgiving-proves-bounteous-abc-180300248.html
