Great to see Find Your Love in the Top 10.
I think the Top 5 is a strong possibility.

I hope that they actually send songs for radio adds when they have their 'original songs' episode. that'd be really cool, ya know?

I'm surprised... in Australia and the UK, "Don't Stop Believing" weren't only Top 10 chart hits (from digital sales), but radio also played them as well. With the phenomenon that Glee has turned out to be in the US, I'm surprised radio won't support at least one or two of their singles? (I'm not talking all 100 of them). What's that about??? And I'm not even a Glee fan??

Probably because every week there is a new song that is the focus of an episode. Radio wouldn't focus on an older song when new ones roll out every week.
And, of course, there is the option that the songs are just karaoke versions of older hits, so stations would be more inclined to play the original recording.

Yay! IGF still on the chart, RTB still #9 :) Ke$ha falls one spot, but still top 5! Nice move for VV, glad to see her moving up! Drake top 10!!
And congrats Nicki! Your first solo hit. #26 is pretty good :) Hopefully pop radio countinues to support that track! And yes! 2nd week at #1 for Cali Gurls, wonder how long it's going to reign :)

I don't see how it's Eminem's second biggest hit when its airplay peak is no. 50.

I don't see how it's Eminem's second biggest hit when its airplay peak is no. 50. Jebsib is basing that on Hot 100 performance...Eminem has had 3 #1 singles: "Lose Yourself" (12 wks at no. 1) and "Not Afraid" and "Crack A Bottle" (1 wk at no. 1 each). "Crack A Bottle" spent only 4 weeks in the top ten, so by logging a 5th week in the top ten "Not Afraid" pulls ahead. It's just one way of looking at it. But based on peak position, then breaking that tie by weeks in the top ten, "Not Afraid" is now Eminem's second biggest hit.

Naturally, I have to make my expected "I Gotta Feeling" comment, or it will throw off the order of Pulse as we know it. I'm seriously starting to think it's forever stuck on the Hot 100- 53 weeks and counting. Imagine if it outlasts "Rock That Body"? "Need You Now" also is racking some impressive time on the Hot 100. Shakira's entry is pretty good. Has "Glee" passed the Beatles yet in terms of Hot 100 hits? It's hard to keep up with the entries- at least there will be a hiatus of "Glee" titles charting.

Or it could be the fact that in the US radio DJs know that Glee is just a TV show whereas in the UK and other parts of the world it seems like Glee is some kind of cover-only band?

Meh, I would say that total weeks in the T10 is a better judge than 1 big week giving #1 then further downloads keeping it holding on without radio support, in terms of a "hit." Or even, weeks in the T5. Not Afraid has one. Without Me spent 5 weeks at no. 2.

Peak position, airplay, sales, total chart run are all good depending on what you want to get from it

I think Glee Cast's version of "Faithfully" is being promoted in America - VH1 just put this video into heavy rotation for next week's playlist. It's on MTV & MTV Hits too.

I know IGAF is a big hit, but why are you so surprised by its longevity? It spent 14 weeks at #1 and is the best selling digital single... EVER. 53 weeks on the Hot 100 is reasonable in comparison to those feats and still about half a year from breaking the record, and that doesn't even put it in the top ten in terms of longevity (unless I am woefully mistaken). I would be kind of curious to see the longest chart span POST-peak... considering that 38 of its weeks have been after it left its peak position. That might be a little more impressive. But still... call us when it's in the 70-week range. Then it'll be worth watching.

Not surprised per se by its success based on the stats- just on the song itself. I like it, but, like I said, I didn't even think a year ago when it debuted at #2 and then climbed to the top that it still would be around a year later. And, EVER being 2003/2004-present, so only a six-year span or so. :) Nonetheless, even taking into account physical singles, it's one of the biggest-selling singles in the USA. But, physical singles (even at their peak) and digital are two different animals, so it may not be fair to compare them.
RE "Glee"- it's unlikely that U.S. radio will give any track associated with the show much airplay. Radio's probably looked at how the majority of singles come and go on the singles chart- it's fleeting interest, for the most part, in individual songs. Plus, the show is "theatrical," with its voices (especially the lead girl) and that doesn't play all that well on radio.

Not surprised at all by IGF - Its the "Celebration" of this era. A light, feel-good anthem about fun that captures an optimistic mood. Heavy stuff it ain't.

I think it's just different with each country. Australia has produced a lot of big cover-group hits, like the Young Divas for example.

When a music video is played on TV does it count as airplay? No. But I believe the Hot Videoclips chart or whatever monitors TV rotation.

"Don't Stop Believin'" was actively promoted as a single in the UK. It didn't go for adds in the US.

I rather thought that video channels counted for airplay purposes, with some counting toward different genres (VH1 = HAC, CMT = country, Fuse = alternative, etc.). Or is that just for Mediabase, and not Nielsen/Billboard?
