I thought it might be, but IDK how many hits I hear on the album. I do think it's a very solid pop album, but I'm not sure it's a Breakaway/Good Girl Gone Bad like I originally thought it would be. I think what it lacks is a good change of pace single. A lot of the songs are radio-friendly but sound kinda similar which might hurt her later on. Maybe a re-release will push it to those levels?

We also have to see if she's an album seller. She's only had 1 album, so you can't really judge. However, I'd say given the fact that it was a debut and scanned 1.2 mill despite a VERY weak opening week, that it does kind bode well for this album. However, you really never know. I do think this album is better than OOTB though, so I would hope it would outsell it or at least match it.

Yeah, I would wait a few weeks into the release before we start saying anything about it's future success being Breakaway/Fearless-esque.

I think it'll top OOTB. Not sure what it will do past that though. But yeah we'll have to see.

I do see what people are saying by "defining era" though. Will it see Breakaway or Fearless sized sales? Probably not. Could it see GGGB sales? Maybe. Depending on how they play the era and if people are willing to spend money on her album. The fact that she DID release 2 singles before the album and not just leave it at Cali Gurls was smart IMO. I always said it would be. Cali Gurls is rather novelty, and was going to have a quick run anyways. Novelty doesn't usually sell albums. Novelty track + a track with substance = nice album sales. People like to know the artist can be fun, but isn't a total joke.

I didn't mean that this would sell buckets like Fearless and Breakaway, I meant that it would be a huge radio era. Katy will be the "it" girl like Rihanna and Kelly were during their respective huge eras. Depending on how the opening goes, and how the rest of the era goes, I think that this could go double platinum when all is said and done.

If this era turns out to be very successful (as in 5 or so successful singles), I see the album selling around that same amount "Circus" did at most. The single sales will be much higher, of course.
That is, if there is no re-release. ;)

It's the type of novelty song that could actually drive album sales unlike most novelty records....because it's about a city or state. People tend to like stuff like that here in the US.

This song is burning on me really, really fast. I liked CG well enough, but just can't get into this one. The fact that my station is spinning CG and TD hourly with a sprinkling of more Katy on If We Ever Meet Again is making me really tired of her.

That is, if there is no re-release. ;) But, 5 singles will be more big singles than Circus had. Not to mention Katy does get Hot AC & AC airplay, and even some rhythmic. So I could see her selling around 2 mill when all is said and done.

True, but what I mainly meant was novelty and a fast rise/fast fall type of song. Like, in order for them to have a successful opening week off of CG alone would be to release the album like a month after CG dropped. I do think CG is better than most novelty, but my main point was that releasing something thats non-novelty before the album was a smart move. Its like they were saying "Oh, yeah, we know you all loved Cali Gurls, but that was just a "buzz" single, here's the real deal". Obviously it wasn't a buzz single, but I think you get what I'm saying.

Plus, even if "Teenage Dream" sells the same amount "Circus" did, it will technically be more successful since overall album sales dropped over 25 percent since 2008.

My obsession with Peacock and E.T. has grown to unhealthy levels. Still not getting the insane love for this song, it's good enough, but come on, those 2 are just epic smashes in the making!

Those are my two least favorite songs on her new album. Last Friday Night, Circle the Drain, The One That Got Away >>>>>>>>

Loving her album has actually made this grow on me more. haha I guess hearing the album in full made me not be so upset at her, and this song, for its initial disappointment. Still don't think its amazing or better than CG, but I appreciate it for what it is now. Which is a cute little pop tune.

Peacock is brilliant <3 :) +1. Not sure about it being released though. It seems to be too love it or hate it, and while I LOVE IT, I think it could flop. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if they do this... 1. CG 2. TD 3. Firework 4. Peacock 5. Last Friday Night Although, they may release E.T. somewhere. But the songs above and E.T. are the only ones I see them releasing.

I really like this song. It may be the first Katy Perry song that I download.
