We already know that Teena is going to tear up the Urban AC charts because they supported her so well with her 2004 La Dona. I'm glad that there's buzz already being generated for her May 9th release. The song doesn't have enough energy for me, but it's good that the mature audience has some new music to await.

She's got the biggest increase at Urban AC again.

I'm listening to snippets from her CD, and it's too dated.

I know very well that she's 50 years young, but that doesn't mean that her music has to sound like a rehash from the 80s. Go cop Charlie Wilson's 2005 release, Patti LaBelle's 2004 Timeless Journey, Aretha Franklin's 2003 So Damn Happy and The Isley Brothers' new release, and you'll see that you can sing age-appropriate material and still bring a certain edge to it. Teena Marie's music doesn't have that because it's so dated-sounding. She doesn't have to sound like Beyonce at all. I don't want that, but at least give me 2006 music in whatever form instead of old, throwback, dated productions.

^^ I'm not buying your argument that Teena's music sounds dated while Aretha, Patti, etc. are making music that has an edge. Besides she outsold both of them with her last album (after having been absent from the charts for thirteen years).

Sales of an album tell me nothing. Of course, she picked 2 of the more contemporary sounding songs as the singles...Still In Love & A Rose By Any Other Name with Gerald Levert. But when you get past those 2 and a few others, the material on that release was dated. Sales don't say everything. A lot of folks...almost 1 million I think...bought Anita Baker's 2004 Everything CD, but many folks also complained that her music sounded dated as well.

Yes, I respect your opinion as well.
I have "Timeless Journey" by Patti LaBelle, I didn't think that it was very modern sounding. I guess I have to listen to it again.
I also thought Anita's last album was OK, not great.
I think Teena has her own style and she sticks to it.
She definitely has a strong fanbase, even if she's not getting played on the Top 40 stations.

I noticed, but I'm ready for the 2nd single!
Not sure what they'll release. I would think it's going to be "Cruise Control", since it has Smokey on it.
