Although he perhaps brings it up a bit too often, he does have a point. Eminem is Interscope's biggest-selling artist by some way. Yes, Gaga may be huge now but that doesn't mean she'll still be selling tonnage several years down the line. Eminem has been a big seller for 10 years now and the fact that Interscope can't be bothered to certify two of the biggest-selling albums of the past two years is inexcusable. No other major label would treat such a major artist with such contempt. They must be a truly horrible label to be signed to. I pity the acts unlucky enough to be stuck there. The same goes for all Universal labels. They are easily the worst of all the big major label groups.

"California Gurls" by Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg holds at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for a sixth week. However, "Love The Way You Lie" (2-2), by Eminem featuring Rihanna, is the chart's Airplay Gainer for a second straight frame, putting it in line to take over the top slot next week.

Eminem's track clutches the No. 1 rung on the Digital Songs chart for a third straight week, shifting 314,000 downloads, according to Nielsen SoundScan. On Radio Songs, "Love" scurries 15-7 with a gain of 23 million listener impressions (up 45%) to 73.6 million, according to Nielsen BDS."

I'm glad you asked about Tool. I've wanted to see their latest sales for a while. Comparing these to RIAA certifications, Undertow is due an upgrade to 3xPlatinum while 10,000 Days could now be ready for 2xPlatinum although it still might be a bit too soon.

Interscope is the distributor.

Shady/Aftermath is the label.

Eminem owns Shady.

It's $450.00 per certification application and distributors can't make it on a record label's behalf. The label consents to be audited by the RIAA when it applies.

If the applicant fails the audit, they don't get the cert and they don't get their $450.00 back.

It could be that getting certfied through the RIAA is not as important as it used to be.

You sell a million according to soundscan then you sold a million. Didn't always used to be that way. In the 90's you may have sold 700,000 (or less) through Soundscan and in reality sold 1 million overall.

Recovery is killing it! Not only it had fantastic first week sales, but it also didn't have big decreases in either the second or third weeks. Fourth week is looking like another good one... It will almost certainly beat Relapse's sales!
