www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news08140m01EMINEM’S FOUR PLAY Hip-hop Icon Will Be #1 for Fourth Consecutive Week, Korn, Sting Bow July 14, 2010 If only summer sales could sport a Recovery like Eminem. The rap superstar’s current Shady/Aftermath/Interscope album will spend its fourth straight week at the #1 spot next week, with no debut on target for six figures. It’s the first album to spend that long at the top of the charts since the end of last year and beginning of this, when Susan Boyle turned the trick, with six consecutive weeks at #1. Before that, Taylor Swift’s Fearless spent seven weeks on top in 2008-’09. Justin Bieber’s My World 2.0 has been #1 four weeks this year, but not consecutively. Korn III Remember Who You Are, the band’s first album for new label Roadrunner, and first since 2007’s Untitled on Virgin/EMI will be the week’s top debut, with a total between 60-65k. Decca’s new Sting album, Symphonicity, featuring orchestral versions of some of his biggest hits, is in line for a debut between 40-45k. Sire’s The Maine, an alternative rock band from Phoenix, will score a fairly impressive 30-35k for their major label debut (and second overall), Black and White. Epic’s Hellyeah, a metal supergroup featuring Mudvayne vocalist Chad Gray and guitarist Greg Tribbett along with former Pantera drummer Vinnie Paul, will score 25-30k for their second album, Stampede. N.E.E.T./Interscope’s M.I.A. album is looking at between 25-30k for her new album, whose title we’ll reproduce as Maya, her real name. Inpop’s Newsboys, a Grammy-award winning Christian pop-rock band from Australia that’s been around in one form or other since the mid-‘80s, will debut with 25-30k for the album, Born Again. Arista Nashville’s Jerrod Neimann should do between 24-27k, while Sky Harbor Records/Universal Republic’s Sky Sailing, Owl City principal Adam Young’s first band, will bow with 12-15k for An Airplane Carried Me to Bed. The market was down 5% vs. last week, down 28% vs. same week last year (in the midst of Michael Jackson mania, naturally) and now down 12% year to date. It's enough to make you think Mel Gibson has it easy.

Much like they did with Ozzy Osbourne a few weeks back, I think Hits are underestimating Korn's sales. Korn may be past their peak saleswise but I think an opening week of 80-85k is the most likely outcome.

I loved Hell Yeah's first album but can't get into this latest one at all. I thought it was dreadful personally. Since Pantera split, the only decent album Vinnie Paul has been on is the Rebel Meets Rebel album he, Dimebag Darrell and Rex Brown did with David Allen Coe.

Since Pantera split, the only decent album Vinnie Paul has been on is the Rebel Meets Rebel album he, Dimebag Darrell and Rex Brown did with David Allen Coe. I liked the first few Mudvayne album's but nothing since. I liked the first Hell Yeah but not this one really. I mean the music is not mind blowing but the first album had a lot more catchy tunes then this one does. There is nothing as good as "Hell Yeah", "You Wouldn't Know", "Alcahaulin' Ass", "Goddamn", or "Matter Of Time". I'm honestly shocked it's on pace to do as much as it is quite frankly. All these rock sales seem to be going down from the previous albums. That's why I think this upcoming Disturbed album will be interesting to see how it does. That comes out August 31st so we will see. I wonder if Em will get a 5th week on top? Rick Ross will probably be the only competition and I don't think Rick Ross will sell nearly as well as Rick Ross previous albums. We will see though.

Boring week. Nothing really interesting, since Korn's numbers are kind of dissapointing.

www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgiYOUR WEAKEND TOP 15 CHART PREVIEW: It’s the dog days for practically everybody except for Eminem, who holds the #1 spot for the fourth straight week, as six debuts hit the Top 15, none of them within a Hail Mary of six digits. But relatively speaking, Lucian Grainge has gotta be feeling good about the lay of the land as he checks out Malibu real estate, with that summertime smash from Slim Shady and eight of the 15 projected best-sellers. Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 180-190k * Korn (Roadrunner) 60-65k Drake (Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Motown) 45-50k * Sting (Decca) 40-45k Justin Bieber (Island/IDJ) 40-45k * The Maine (Warner Bros.) 30-35k Lady Gaga (Interscope) 28-32k * M.I.A. (N.E.E.T./Interscope) 27-30k * Jerrod Neimann (Arista Nashville) 27-30k Twilight Saga: Eclipse (Chop Shop/Atlantic) 25-28k Now 34 (Capitol/EMI) 25-28k Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 25-28k Big Boi (Def Jam/IDJ) 25-28k * Hell Yeah (Epic) 24-27k Jack Johnson (Brushfire/Universal Republic) 22-25k

Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 25-28k This album could be selling 50k a week, but no, the label randomely decided to promote a song from their last album. Stupid move indeed!

That was awesome. Yeah I like the Mudvayne/Hellyeah singer but seriously he needs to write better lyrics.

Even with the Michael Jackson sales bonanza, overall album sales at this time last year were down compared to the prior year (how much, not sure we could tell). Album sales gradually are declining year to year- I wonder if there will be a year anytime soon where overall album sales increase from the prior year. Digital album sales are increasing, but not at a rate big enough to slow the overall decline. Even digital tracks' sales look to have peaked for the time being.

Oh no doubt it's down from last year. How much is what's tough to determine.

I don't think album sales are going to recover any soon. Poor artists that don't have tours...

These albums sales make me sad (although Eminem is really pulling these amazing sales in week after week, for what it's worth) I hope they find some way to recover quick, and I hope that this holiday season is a massive one for album sales.

That was awesome. Yeah I like the Mudvayne/Hellyeah singer but seriously he needs to write better lyrics. To their credit, they know how to play and have the musicianship down solid. Plus Corey Taylor truly has a convincing Southern-fried voice personality. It's the songwriting that makes it hard for me to listen to them. I can't help but feel Randy Houser co-wrote half the album's tracks. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

Corey Taylor is a really good song writer. Chad Grey is hit and miss a lot of the time. That's why i say i like some Mudvayne and some Hellyeah but the inconsistent song writing keeps me for those being considered favorite bands of mine. Tool, A Perfect Circle, Nine Inch Nails, System Of A Down, Disturbed, Rage Against The Machine, Evans Blue (First two albums with original lead singer), Cold and so on all have great song writers imo to go along with great musicianship. Just to name a few. My Dad bought the new Crowding House album the other day. Looks like that's not going to sell very well.

Yep. I have noticed that at Meijers here in michigan. I mean the two K-Marts in Jackson don't sell CD's anymore. Meijers still does but has cut back on the number of orders it seems for new releases. We have a walmart super center but i never go there so idk there selection.

CDs have become in the digital age what VHS cassette tapes were at the beginning of the DVD boom. It was just inevitable their decline was going to accelerate and that they'll eventually be obsolete.
It is sad in many ways, I will admit that, given the sentimental streak I have towards them in that virtually all my first immersions into music listening were through specific CD purchases.
On the other hand, I think CD sales are ultimately a grossly inadequate barometer in studying how better or worse off music artists are today. If anything, I think musicians are overall much better off today than in 1997 (generally estimated to be the year CD sales peaked) for the simple reason that the industry side of the equation is much less dominant of the artistic side of it now than it used to be, with artists having more control over their creative product in many respects since as far back as the 1950s.
CDs may be inching closer to becoming obsolete by the day, but I don't necessarily see it as a bad thing when I remind myself of how the sharing and aims of promoting music is as democratic as ever in my lifetime, and I'd argue my parents' whole lifetime. Plus, I'll still keep my present CDs.

CDs won't be obsolete.
One thing that will keep CDs around awhile is the new cars that people buy at the dealer and (most of the old ones as well) come with CD players.
As long as there are CD players being manufactured, there will be CDs

LOL at the people here who are acting like cds are going to disappear overnight.
Who here has a copy of Billboard? I'm on vacation and do not an issue with me.
Physical cds are outselling digitals cds 4-1.
In a week with 6 million cds sold, 4.5 million are cds. 1.5 million are digital.

But eventually they'll follow the path VHS tapes have. On the ratio point, it bears reminding that the ratio, as recently as five years ago, was MUCH wider between physical and digital sales. It definitely won't happen overnight, but I can see it happening eventually. In fact, they are even starting the push to develop ways to produce cars with digital friendly playing systems as opposed to cd players.
