Rihanna's singles definitely outweigh her album sales in the US but what she lacks here, she makes up for internationally (where her album sales are tripled). I don't know why but for some reason her American following just isn't that strong. Not only with her sales but even her tour which had been selling out and doing well on its first leg overseas faced a lot of trouble with ticket sales when it got here.

Rihanna's sales always surprise me because it feels like she is much bigger than her sales. 4 cds that spawned huge hits on each one including one with like...8 hits and her sales total is only 5.5 mil? Just seems low? America just isn't feeling buying Rihanna as more than a singles artist as of right now. Of course, she more than makes up for it worldwide where her albums DO sell equal to the size of her hits and her tour is doing fine over there as well. I think she is becoming a new type of artist in America that can survive off hits alone if she needed, as well. She is definitely not alone in the singles artist range either in America. Plenty of male artists have fallen into that trap and I would argue to some extent that Katy/Kesha have as well (at least up until now). Katy's album took FOREVER to hit a million even after 3 massive hits and tons of promo. Kesha is on hit #3 working on #4 and will still take some time to hit a million sold. I am excited to see what happens with everyone in the future. Like, will Rihanna's new pop friendly cd move her to sell as much as GGGB or more again? I know Katy will sell more than her debut, but will it be the smash album sales hit that everyone thinks it will? I have NO idea what Kesha's next project will do-I could see her going either way. It is a fun time in female pop music right now-lots of fun artists and interesting artists to discuss. Not to mention Kelly and Britney releasing soon which will be fun as well
