These 2 songs are like the only pop diva ones rising. You are making things needlessly complicated and annoying. Exactly, which is why it wasn't a valid argument to begin with :)

The Script moves back into the Top 20 because Lady GaGa and Ke$ha keep dropping, pushing it back up LOL It also looks like it will rise another position with Taio Cruz about to fall below them as well. This is one song that stays static!!!

Yah- I'd say comparing "California Gurls" to "Tik Tok" or "Bad Romance" would be a better comparison than to 'Single Ladies." Good point, wolfmother. SIt's not like Snoop Dogg's rap was goingto make the track attractive to urban radio outlets.
RE a "Stan"- I never put together that it was tied to the Eminem track. lol But, the use is definitely overused, especially on this board. Some take offense to it, some don't- but, I don't think there's any question that people directing the term toward other posters mean it in a negative manner.

Damn I wish "Half Of My Heart" would take off... that is by far one of his best songs to date. Reminds me of Lindsay Buckingham..

did kelly rowland's "Commander" ever get any airplay?
funny how two summers in a row she's had a song that EVERYONE i know loves but makes virtually no dent on anything other than the dance chart...

Kelly's song didn't go for adds the record company didn't want to promote the record. Kelly has the most chemistry out of all the people who worked with DG so far.

I'm really excited that Rihanna got her 7th #1! She's unstoppable, her next era really needs to get those US album sales though
and Katy Perry's new single is giving me life!

a verse in one song doesn't really make her unstoppable, but i do give her credit for making it harmonious. Still...7th it is. Mariah better check it!

The feats achieved by Mariah in the charts in her first 5 years are more impressive than the ones achieved by Rihanna. And 11 #1's to add is a long way to go., it is the total of Whitney Houston chart toppers on the hot 100. Whitney Houston had 7 straight #1's (a record) and yet to this day we can see that she hasn't been a threat for the Beatles record of 20 #1's. And if we're going to oppose singer doing big things (on the charts) she was a bigger worldwide phenomenom than what Rihanna is today. Only time will tell.

I'd rather say she's a strong contender to join the very limited club of 10th #1 on the hot100, before throwing out the baby with the bath water.

Rihanna is 22 tho. She has a long way to 40. She's only 22, but she's been on the charts 5 years now, and rare are the ones that can achieve success for a long period. Paula Abdul got 6 solo #1's from her first two albums and yet look at her now. Mariah was 25, in her 5th year on the charts, that's only a ridiculous 3 years age difference between them at the same stage of their career.

Rihanna's albums will never be the blockbusters that earlier artist's albums have been. Not only is she more of a singles artist than an albums artist, but we are also now back in an era of single domination over album domination anyway.

Rihanna is 22 tho. She has a long way to 40. In first 5 years of career she had 10 #1's and it was all solo alike Rihanna. And she never had a flop, alike Rihanna. But I don't feel comfortable anyway even with Usher, it's very likely he'll get his 10th #1 soon.

An advantage MC had was that a huge chunk of Mariah's #1 streak was in the early 90s before PPW and the massive slowdown of radio. She was riding the coattails of the 1980s where you could spit out four number one songs in 9 months if you were hot enough (ask George Michael, Whitney, MJ, etc)

She was riding the coattails of the 1980s where you could spit out four number one songs in 9 months if you were hot enough (ask George Michael, Whitney, MJ, etc) You say this like it was easy to get many #1's, then why no other artists were able to get many #1's in the early 90's? In the 80's and early 90's, only Mariah, Whitney, Michael Jackson, George Michael, Janet Jackson and Paula Abdul have been able to get four #1's in a span of a year or just a little over that. That's not a lot to me. Mutliple #1's in short periode of time as always been possible right from the start of the rock era. It didn't start with the 80's era. The new phenomenom of the 80's was that artists started to have a lot of hits and #1's from the same album. The only record broke were the one's for the most top 40, top 10 and #1's from the same album. So I find it ridiculous to say that Rihanna has a disadvantage over Mariah or some 80's artists. Re-release an album as become the norm as of late and it has help some artist like Rihanna to get #1's we could argue too. I really don't think there's a need to compare her success to the one of other artists. Getting this many #1's in a short time or not is an excellent feat, and in each decade it hasn't been that much of a common thing to get over five #1's single.

The 90's ushered in an era where people's attention spans for records were largely longer. If anything Rihanna had the advantage of the post 2003 era. Since 2004, you can actually spit out 4 #1's in 9 months, if you are hot enough. Rihanna's music isn't popular enough to warrant 4 #1 singles in 9 months. In the 90's that was much harder to do than it is now. Can we name anyone who released an album in the 90's that had 4 #1 singles from one album?

I agree with you. Beatles had 20#1's in 60's so it didn't start with 80's. Rihanna has an advantage of rereleases. Anyway, it find it very silly to compare anyone's chart success with Mariah's.
