The thing is maybe labels in the long run are only concerned about sales and not the charts. If something leaks they want to get it out to get more people to buy it instead of downloading it. In the long run that's probably it. I think chart positions can still help though, especially w/ advertising. If an artist gets a #1 single, the label can put that on the sticker that the album contains a #1 single. Or if an artist has a #1 album, the label can also advertise that and get people to buy it. Practically every time an artist is being advertised for something, the label always throws out a bunch of numbers and stats to make things look more enticing and drive more sales. Your sig makes me miss Shania sooooo much!

No they were released the same week. There's a massive tranny mess of a Hot 100 thread for that week somewhere in the back of this forum . I checked MDJ and the post said Madonna sold 217k the week Touch My Body was spending its 2nd week at #1 on the Hot 100. Billboard disagrees.

@ NYN gaining. I think "Need You Now" has a shot at replacing Jason Mraz's "I'm Yours" for the Billboard Hot 100's longevity record. It'll be close, but Lady Antebellum has one key advantage: a large Country audience impression, which Jason Mraz obviously didn't have. That, along with static mass AC airplay and lasting appeal in the Top Twenty of the aggregate airplay chart will make this a release that stubbornly clings to the Billboard Hot 100 like chewing gum at the bottom of your shoe. Train's "Hey, Soul Sister" will also come pretty close, though I predict that will leave the chart before "Need You Now" despite presently being perched further up the Billboard Hot 100 in placement. MWCBM is really taking its time...
I see really "Dynamite" ending up as another example of a huge hit that just never got its turn at #1. Which is fine by me, because I can't stand it.
Haha yesterday NYN gained, and today HSS did. Hello longevity.

Geez to think that if they had given her three days give or take she could have had her first #1. I felt the same with Madonna's "4 Minutes". If her label had just released it one week prior it might have gone to #1 instead of going head to head with Mariah's release.Didn't it peak at #3? It's not like Touch my body kept it from #1.

So it looks like Eminem will stay at Number 1 and Taylor will debut at Number 2. This is so exciting. Eminem truly dodged a bullet this week with the simple fact "Mine" leaked and was at an immediate disadvantage having a shortened chart week. That said, "Love The Way You Lie" should now enjoy at least six weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, I predict. Either an eventual rise in sales for the title track from Katy Perry's forthcoming album, or the lead single from the next Black Eyed Peas album "The Beginning", will be responsible for its dislodging, I believe. The same song staying at #1 is so exciting? Even if I were a fan it'd be more gladdening than exciting, since it's an event that's already happened the last few weeks in a row.

Figures it couldn't be eminem who had to suffer the disavantage of having his single leaked and miss out on the number 1 debut. I don't even care that much for Taylor but it would have been nice to see her get a #1.
