It doesnt offend me because It's not a pop song.
I mean if your definition of a pop song is if it's popular than yeah it's pop. The band Tool's last two albums debut #1 with over 500K sold. I guess that makes "Schism" & "Vicarious" the singles Tool released "Pop" as well.
If Tool isnt Pop. Eminem isnt Pop.

How on earth is 'LTWYL' not pop?The production is in the same vein of just about every other hit song that's dominated pop radio in the last two years. Frankly, it could've come straight off of Rihanna's latest album, which is precisely why it's doing so well. I'm having a hard time following this logic, but it seems like you're implying that people think LTWYL is pop simply because the album it's on is selling well. That has nothing to do with it.

The sad thing is that you're the same person who thought that the chorus of Not Afraid isn't sung.

The song being a smash hit had nothing at all to do with my argument about whether the song was a pop song, it's a pop song because it has a giant pop chorus and hook etc, the end, whether it made #1 on the Hot 100 or #98 on the Hot 100, had nothing to do with my point ever.

Do you guys think its really fair to label LTWYL a complete pop song?
I mean yeah the chorus is very pop and sung by rihanna, but she doesnt even have a bridge or verse. All 3 16-bar verses are rap, no questions asked.
AT BEST I think you can say its a rap/pop song.
Saying its a pop song and completely ignoring the fact that over half the song is rapped....I dunno about that.
Go listen to Juicy by Biggie Smalls and tell me thats a 100% pop record.

The problem, really, is that 10 years ago Eminem would make a track ripping Rihanna to shreds, and now he's making one in which he uses her a crutch to score a hit.

"The hook & chorus, which make the song, are straight up pop" There is simply one chorus. You make it seem like there is a hook and chorus. I know these terms can be interchangable (as far as I know "hook" is simply used more commonly for the "Chorus" of rap songs).
You are judging the genre of the entire song based off of the chorus, even though the verses are twice as long.
Like I said before, you would be a fool to say Juicy by Biggie Smalls is a "pop song" simply because of the hook. You can not judge a song simply based off of the hook.
May as well say Sing For The Moment is a rock song....No. Its a rap song with a rock (sampled) hook.
"Juicy is a Rap song with a R&B/Pop sample." Just like LTWYL is a rap/pop song, because all the verses are rap but the hook is pop.
"I saw we had 3 pages and a bunch of new posts. I was hoping it was because we had the full numbers. But here we are, again, in a bitch fest argument with slicknickshady" I was hoping for the numbers too after 3 pages, especially because we didn't get them last week....

"Juicy is a Rap song with a R&B/Pop sample." Just like LTWYL is a rap/pop song, because all the verses are rap but the hook is pop. Exactly. Another perfect example:"Airplanes".

You guys just wanna argue, you don't believe anything but the charts. Go ask rap fans about LTWYL they'll tell you its a typical drama rap song that has a kind of pop into it! Maybe its because i don't know what real pop is, because in Rap we have no labeling if its a diss record then its just rap record if its a love song then its just a rap song!I don't know how you guys label songs, but to me i don't care if its a love song or a diss song. At the end its a rap record that its lyrics been laid out in a rap type of flow!

If Tool isnt Pop. Eminem isnt Pop - that is the worst logic ever u need help

"Exactly. Another perfect example:"Airplanes" Exactly. The verses are all rap, the chorus is pop, so its a rap/pop song.
With songs like this that have 2 performers, a 1)rapper and a 2)singer, its only natural that the song adapts elements from both of the performers.
Airplanes, Love the way you lie, Empire state of mind, Run this town....
These songs are all rap/pop songs or rap/rnb songs.
To say they are "rap songs" without acknowledge that the chorus of the song is pop is not fair, because its not solely a rap song.
To say these songs are "pop" simply because there is somebody singing the chorus and completely ignore the fact that the other 70% of the song was composed of rapping is equally stupid.
Love the way you lie is a RAP/POP song, end of discussion. Rihanna's chorus is pop, and eminem's verses are rap.

Interestingly enough, songs like "Fergalicious," "Boom Boom Pow," and "Tik Tok" are almost entirely rapped, and yet they're all about as pop as you can get. Which is why a song being in one genre doesn't exclude it from being in another.

A POP song is a POPULAR song...it doesnt have a genre...its the most popular songs...the pop label is based on the fact that the Pop charts were usually a certain sound at the time before the genre of country, soul, etc got huge...just think Johnny Cash has great pop hits...he's not a Kelly C, Britney S. singer hes a country singer with POPULAR hits :) The pop label always bothered me

Absolutely incorrect. First of all, I haven't heard or read a definition yet of what exactly makes a song a pop song.
Second, if pop was such a broad genre, there would be many, many more rock songs that would make the transition to pop. Kings of Leon's "Use Somebody", as an example, had been released as a single to rock stations months and months before pop stations picked it up. To me, it was as if the pop stations were dragged kicking and screaming to play that one rock song.
If pop is such a broad genre, why wasn't Snow Patrol's "Take Back The City" ever played on a pop station? Why can't something like "Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes be a pop song?
Why were Green Day's "Boulevard of Broken Dreams", "Holiday" and "Wake Me Up When September Ends" pop songs, while "American Idiot" wasn't? Why weren't any of the Foxboro Hot Tubs' songs pop songs?
On the other hand, we have a bunch of bands such as Daughtry, The Script, and the All-American Rejects which are often spoken of as rock bands, yet the Rock genre won't touch them with a ten foot pole.
When I was a kid, The Doors' "Love Her Madly" was an instant pop hit. Would "Smells Like Teen Spirit" have ever been spun on a pop station if it was released in 2010 instead of 1991?
This whole idea that a pop song is a song that's popular makes no sense to me, since many songs that appear to be popular never are considered by whoever are the gatekeepers of the pop genre.

LTWYL is no different than Stan ft Dido or Superman, Cum On Everybody, and Drug Ballad ft Dina Rae.
