EMINEM WILL RETURN TO TOP Disney’s Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam and Black Label Society are the Week’s Big Releases
August 11, 2010
Now that the dust is settling on this week’s Arcade Fire album, whose sales total of 156k was over 62% digital (97k), the HITS Top 50 returns to normal next Tuesday, with Eminem’s Shady/Aftermath/Interscope album Recovery moving back to #1 in its eighth week and sending it over 2 million in sales.
With Amazon’s $3.99 special leading the way, the Merge critical darlings became the first act from that North Carolina inei, celebrating its 21st anniversary, to debut at #1 on the album sales chart. The band’s last release, Neon Bible, entered at #2 in March, 2007, with 92k, behind a Notorious B.I.G. greatest hits album.
Arcade Fire's digital sales were strong across the board, with iTunes selling it for $9.99, while the band’s web site offered its own version, featuring synchronized visuals, at $7.99.
eMusic had its biggest debut of the year on the album, with 6% of the sales total, with an onsite critique by the site’s editorial chief J. Edward Keyes here.
This week’s releases are topped by Walt Disney’s Camp Rock 2 soundtrack and E1’s Black Label Society, fronted by guitar maestro Zakk Wylde, both targeted in the 40-45k range.
That’s based on one-day sales reports from those music retailers now reduced to screaming into their phones at all hours of the day and night like Mel Gibson.
WB Nashville’s Blake Shelton and J/RMG Duke-bred rapper Mike Posner, whose album 31 Minutes to Takeoff soared to #1 at iTunes earlier this week, are both looking at sales between 30-35k.
The market was up 1% vs. last week, down 13% vs. same week last year and still down 12% year to date. We now return you to your testy, profanity-laced Jet Blue flight attendant.

Finally Em will be back on top. So that will be 6 Times at #1 in 8 Weeks.
Then it should be #1 the following week as well.
So it's looking like 7 Non Consecutive Weeks at #1 will be Recovery's run at the top.
Then You got Katy Perry, Disturbed, Stone Sour, and etc coming out the weeks after. I think Perry will hit #1. Then Disturbed will hit #1 the following week. I don't know about Stone Sour. I'm thinking that will be a Top 5 Debut.

No challengers to Eminem here
Camp Rock is the strongest new release of the week

I thought Shelton would do more...
I'd love it if Eminem can pull more than 100k for his first ten weeks on the chart.

YOUR PRESEASON WEAKEND CHART PREVIEW: It's a very safe bet to say that Eminem will return to the top of the chart next week. Fact is, he'll be the only act to sell in six digits, as the dog days of summer appear in tandem with a belated SoCal heatwave. Eminem will cross the 2.1m mark next week and close the gap with Lady Antebellum in the race for 2010's top selling album (so far). Including next week's projection, Lady A has now sold just north of 2.5m units. Based on midweek sales reports, here's how next week's Top 15 might look:
Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 130-140k Arcade Fire (Merge) 40-50k * Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam (Walt Disney) 40-45k * Black Label Society (E1) 40-45k * Mike Posner (J/RMG) 30-35k Justin Bieber (Island/IDJ) 30-35k * Blake Shelton (Warner Bros. Nashville) 30-35k Kidz Bop Kids (Razor & Tie) 28-32k Rick Ross (Def Jam/IDJ) 28-32k Avenged Sevenfold (Warner Bros.) 25-28k Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 22-25k Drake (Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Motown) 22-25k Lady Gaga, The Fame (Interscope) 20-22k Zac Brown Band (Atlantic) 18-20k Now 34 (Capitol/EMI) 18-20k

Yep, he's gonna end up selling more than Lady A this year. Will probably even pull over 3m by the end of '010.

Good sales again for Em, shame about the massive gap though

That's pretty decent for Mike Posner. He has a much bigger fanbase than I thought.

I'm curious, has the #10 album ever dropped below 20k based on Soundscan numbers?

Well thankfully the Fall-December release schedule is much busier than the Summer and earlier portion of the year, so we will get more higher debuts hopefully... an all 30k+ top ten would be nice.

They should release Lady Gaga, Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Swift, The Eagles, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson, Lil' Wayne, Drake, and Susan Boyle on the same day. I'd love to see those numbers. Folks would literally beat down the doors to the music stores.

^^ Haha did you intentionally leave Eminem out of your post? ;) But anyway, I think the intense competition would cheat most of those artists out of a few thousand copies. And it would be such a shame to see Britney only debut at #11.

Actually if that were the case th store wouldn't be able to stock all those cds so, they will all most likely loose sales

That's an unfortunate fall for Sheryl Crow.
I don't understand why "Summer Day" isn't making a dent at the Adult Top 40. It is easily her most melodic, infectious single since her take on Cat Stevens' "The First Cut is the Deepest". It should at least be out-peaking "Love is Free", and yet it has barely outperformed "Shine Over Babylon" thus far.
