She's the kind of artist that needs substential airplay to obtain big overall sales. If you look at her chart history, her biggest selling songs are her biggest radio hits.
Only time will tell, like I said. Last year Mariah Carey's single "Obsessed" looked like it was going to flop, it was soon outside the Itunes top 20 and the track airplay was only slwoly making gains past the first week. But we know how this one performed.
In two weeks we'll get a clreared picture, pop is going to make this single a big hit or just a moderate success, the format isn't eating the song right now, but it ain't underperforming either. People got to remember this is a country song and even if it's Taylor Swift we're talking about, we can't compare her to the likes of Katy Perry who make straight pop songs.
Right now it's doing its thing.

Why does everything have to be a backlash?

It's a natural effect of having so many opening sales cause of early hype from the fanbase, it starts off strong but with no promo and it still soaring in airplay, there isn't much fueling the song at the moment. Once airplay really shoots up to the top 20 and so on and Taylor starts promoting it, it will go back up.

Look at Em's track record. His Not Afraid shot up and then fell off a bit but not that dayum hard. That just goes to show you that you don't necessarily loose sales if a song leaks and therefore there is no need to rush release something before you are ready to.

The only real surprise, to me, is that "Paparazzi" still maintains a larger audience than "Poker Face" does.

I actually like that's the case, in that I was underwhelmed with Lady Gaga's first three singles and that "Paparazzi", I believe, marked the turning point of her early mainstream career when she began being perceived as more of an artist and innovator than someone grasping at Top 40 instant gratification. It also marked the beginning of a trend where all of her music video releases have become events, which is quite a rarity in this day in age.

But "Poker Face", regardless, was a significantly bigger hit for her worldwide, that wasn't critically panned either.

"Most memorable" and "Iconic" doesn't always equal the most recurrent airplay. Look at the recurrent airplay for big acts of the past and some might surprise you...
