the main reason is continues to sell a shit-ton is because of teenage drug use. I know this from experience. As soon as i was introduced to weed, mushrooms, and acid, i was also introduced to Pink Floyd and the like. If you've ever been a teenager and ate some mushrooms and watched The Wizard of Oz on mute while playing Dark Side of the Moon, you'll know what i'm talkin about. Every year, a new crop of young boys gets introduced to drugs, and Pink Floyd's music goes right along with it, IMO. It happened to me.

The main reason it continues to sell is that it might be a really good album ?? There is obviously a limited number of stores that still sell CDs and they have a limited amount of space for older albums but all stores still sell this one

Albums labeled as "classics" like this one and is widely available in stores will get new exposure to a new audience every year.

I am not old enough to have experienced this album when it was brand new, I discovered it much later and without the use of drugs. I discovered because I was aware this was a highly regarded classic and wanted to see what the fuss was all about

if you wanna believe that, you go right ahead. But in reality, it's because of drug use. Have you ever been to a Pink Floyd show? Or how bout one of those Pink Floyd laser-light shows? I bet there's no drug use goin on there. Of course there is. Dark Side of the Moon and psychedelic drugs go hand-in-hand. Just listen to the album. It's made for a mushroom trip, lol.

It happens to be one of my least favorite Pink Floyd albums.

"Wish You Were Here" and "The Wall" are way better albums in my opinion. Also, i will second 2m, I have never did drugs in my life, and i have listened to the album. I didnt buy it, I listened to my dad's copy, and he never did drugs either.

I agree, there is certainly a drug audience for this album but that doesn't mean that every Pink Floyd fan or fan of this album is into drugs

Classic albums thrive for long periods of time because they are well received by more than one generation

you people take everything so literally. OF COURSE not every Pink Floyd "sale" is from some drug addict wanting to experience an acid trip, i'm saying Pink Floyd's music and psychedelic drug use go hand-in-hand. I bet all 3 of you, and anyone else who doesn't believe me, would feel really uncomfortable at one of their shows being the only sober people in the audience. I believe one of their last shows was at the pyramids in Egypt on New Year's Eve one year...can't remember what year. But i guarantee you everyone at THAT show was fuct up.

of course there's gonna be a big percentage of people who buy it cuz it's a "classic" album. But you have to admit it's a drug-induced album.

Lil Wayne's fans have remained loyal to the rapper, who is nearing the end of a one-year prison sentence. His new hit, "Right Above It" (featuring Drake), enters Hot Digital Songs at #1. This is, amazingly, Lil Wayne's first #1 digital hit. "Lollipop," his 2008 smash (featuring Static Major), logged 12 weeks in the top five, but never climbed higher than #2..

"Right Above It" is from Lil Wayne's upcoming EP, I'm Not A Human Being, which is set for release on Sept. 27 (which is the rapper's 28th birthday). The EP will precede the release of the full-length album Tha Carter IV. Tha Carter III was the best-selling album of 2008 and was a Grammy finalist for Album of the Year..

Lil Wayne began serving a one-year prison sentence in March for illegal possession of a weapon. He is expected to be released in November after serving eight months..

Even though it was never the best-selling digital hit in the U.S. during any one week, "Lollipop" has sold a very healthy 3,951,000 copies. It is still selling about 5,000 copies a week, which means it will probably top the 4 million mark right around the time Lil Wayne is released from prison..

"Right Above It" dislodges "Love The Way You Lie" by Eminem featuring Rihanna from the #1 spot on Hot Digital Songs after seven weeks on top. But Eminem's Recovery continues to lead The Billboard 200. This is the album's seventh week at #1, which is the longest that any album has held the top spot since Taylor Swift's Fearless had 11 weeks on top in 2008 and 2009. It's the longest that a rap album has ranked #1 since OutKast's Speakerboxxx/The Love Below had seven weeks on top in 2003 and 2004. Both albums won the Grammy for Album of the Year..

Eminem will probably also get some major Grammy recognition when the nominations are announced on Dec. 1. He has a good chance of being in the running for Album of the Year for Recovery, as well as Record and/or Song of the Year for either "Not Afraid" or "Love The Way You Lie.".

Eminem has been both a big winner and a big loser at the Grammys. He has won 11 times, which is more than such Grammy perennials as Sheryl Crow and Barbra Streisand. His haul includes four wins for Best Rap Album, which is more than any other artist in the category's 15-year history..

So, how is he a Grammy loser? In all this time, Eminem has yet to win in one of the "Big Four" categories-Album, Record and Song of the Year and Best New Artist..

The Marshall Mathers LP was a finalist for Album of the Year for 2000, but lost to Steely Dan's Two Against Nature. The Eminem Show was nominated for the same award for 2002, but lost to Norah Jones' Come Away With Me.The witty "Without Me" made the finals for Record of the Year for 2002, but lost to Jones' silky "Don't Know Why." The anthemic (and Oscar-winning) "Lose Yourself" was nominated for both Record and Song of the Year for 2003, but lost to Coldplay's "Clocks" (for Record) and the heart-tugging Luther Vandross/Richard Marx ballad "Dance With My Father" (for Song)..

Amazingly, Em wasn't even nominated as Best New Artist of 1999, an award that went to Christina Aguilera. (The other nominees were Macy Gray, Kid Rock, Britney Spears and Susan Tedeschi)..

Recovery sold 116,000 copies this week. Billboard's Keith Caulfield reports that it's the first album to top the 100,000 mark in weekly sales in each of its first nine weeks since NOW 20 did the trick in late 2005. It's the first non-compilation to achieve the feat since Mariah Carey's The Emancipation Of Mimi, which topped 100K in each of its first 13 weeks in 2005..

Iron Maiden's The Final Frontier debuts at #4, giving the veteran metal band the highest-charting album of its nearly 30-year career. The band first cracked The Billboard 200 in June 1981 with Killers. Its highest-charting album before this was A Matter Of Life And Death, which hit #9 in 2006..

The Final Frontier enters the U.K. chart at #1. It's the band's fourth #1 in that country, following 1982's The Number Of The Beast, 1988's Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son and 1992's Fear Of The Dark..

Trace Adkins' Cowboy's Back In Town debuts at #5. It's the country singer's third top 10 album. Greatest Hits Collection, Volume 1 hit #9 in 2004. Dangerous Man reached #3 in 2006. It's also Adkins' fourth album to hit #1 on the Country Albums chart..

Lady Antebellum has two albums in this week's top 20. Need You Now rebounds from #12 to #6 in its 30th week, while iTunes Session debuts at #18. The seven-song EP features the trio's hits as well as a cover of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' "Learning To Fly.".

Dozens of artists have released iTunes albums in recent years. By selling 18K copies in just one week, Lady A's set is already the sixth best-seller. It follows albums by Jack Johnson (which has sold 49K), Adele (24K), Taylor Swift (23K), Sarah McLachlan (23K) and Ben Folds (20K). Lady A's album has already outsold iTunes albums by David Gray (17K), Rob Thomas (17K), Fiona Apple (16K), Death Cab For Cutie (16K) and The Yeah Yeah Yeahs (15K)..

Lil Wayne isn't the only rapper to enter the Hot Digital Songs chart inside the top 10 this week. Nelly pops on at #8 with "Just A Dream." It's his first top 10 hit since "Grillz" peaked at #2 in early 2006. "Just A Dream" is from Nelly's upcoming album 5.0, which is due Nov. 16..

It took some nerve for Bruno Mars to co-write a song titled "Just The Way You Are." A Billy Joel song with the same title was a million-seller in 1978 and quickly became a contemporary standard. But Mars' song is strong enough to withstand comparisons. It's an important record for Mars-his first solo release following back-to-back smashes by B.o.B and Travie McCoy on which he was featured. Between these three hits, Mars has been in the top 10 on Hot Digital Songs in 19 of the past 24 weeks..

10. John Mellencamp, No Better Than This, 24,000. This new entry is Mellencamp's 10th top 10 album. The rocker first cracked the top 10 in June 1982 with American Fool. At his commercial peak in the ‘80s, he had five consecutive top 10 albums. T Bone Burnett produced the new album..

The soundtrack to Camp Rock spent its first 10 weeks in the top 10 in 2008. The soundtrack to Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam slips from #3 to #13 in its second week. But the album may get a second wind when the Disney Channel movie airs on Sept. 3. It is, in any event, the #1 soundtrack for the second week in a row..

Five other albums drop out of the top 10 this week. Black Label Society's Order Of The Black dives from #4 to #37, Blake Shelton's All About Tonight drops from #6 to #18, Rick Ross' Teflon Don falls from #7 to #11, Mike Posner's 31 Minutes To Takeoff plummets from #8 to #46, Kidz Bop Kids' Kidz Bop 18 drops from #9 to #15, and Avenged Sevenfold's Nightmare drops from #10 to #14..

The soundtrack to Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World holds at #24. The album, which features four tracks by Sex Bob-Omb, is the week's top soundtrack to a theatrically-released movie...A new teen pop group, Hey Monday, debuts at #25 with Beneath It All..

Brian Wilson's Brian Wilson Reimagines Gershwin debuts at #26. This is the second time since 1955 that a tribute album to George Gershwin has cracked the top 30. Jazz legend Sarah Vaughan hit #14 in 1957 with Sarah Vaughan Sings George Gershwin. Gershwin is the third songwriter or songwriting team from the era of the "Great American Songbook" to be saluted with a pair of top 30 albums. He follows Irving Berlin and Richard Rodgers & Lorenz Hart..

Gershwin landed his first major hit, Al Jolson's "Swanee," in May 1920. This gives Gershwin significant chart presence spanning more than 90 years. (Top that, Lady Gaga!) Gershwin's most ground-breaking works are the pop/classical fusion "Rhapsody In Blue" (1924) and the folk opera Porgy & Bess (1935). Other Gershwin classics, mostly written with his older brother Ira Gershwin, include "Someone To Watch Over Me," "Our Love Is Here To Stay" and the Oscar-nominated "They Can't Take That Away From Me.".

Gershwin died of a brain tumor in July 1937 (at the age of 38). But his music lives on. Productions with all-Gershwin soundtracks have walked off with top honors at the Oscars, the Emmys and the Tonys. An American In Paris, starring Gene Kelly, won the Oscar for Best Picture of 1951. The TV special Jack Lemmon in ‘S Wonderful, ‘S Marvelous, ‘S Gershwin won the Emmy for Outstanding Single Program, Variety or Music in 1972. Crazy For You won the Tony for Best Musical in 1992. (For their part, the Grammys awarded the brothers a posthumous Trustees Award in 1986.).

Katy Perry's 2008 debut album, One Of The Boys, dips from #79 to #82. It's #1 on the Catalog Albums chart for the second straight week. The album sold 5,000 copies this week. Perry's sophomore album, Teenage Dream, will likely debut at #1 next week with sales of about 200,000 copies..

The Expendables was #1 at the box-office for the second straight weekend. An album featuring Brian Tyler's original score has sold fewer than 1,000 copies..

Taio Cruz's "Dynamite" tops the 2 million mark in paid downloads in its 12th week of release. That's a little faster than Cruz's breakthrough smash "Break Your Heart" (featuring Ludacris), which took 13 weeks to cross the threshold..

Justin Timberlake's 2007 hit "What Goes Around...Comes Around" also tops the 2 million mark in paid downloads. It's Timberlake's second song as a lead artist to reach this plateau, following "SexyBack" (featuring Timbaland), which is up to 3,487,000...Drake's "Over" and Shontelle's "Impossible" top the 1 million mark in paid downloads this week..

Book Plug: The seventh edition of Joel Whitburn's Top Pop Albums has been published. The indispensible, 954-page book lists every album that cracked The Billboard 200 from January 1955 to December 2009. The albums are arranged by artist. The book shows each album's chart entry date, peak position, number of weeks on chart, record label and catalog number. Heads Up: As noted above, Katy Perry's Teenage Dream is expected to debut at #1 next week. Fantasia's Back To Me will probably open at #2, with sales of about 125K. Last year if i remember correctly only 2 albums finished the year with over 3 mill and the 3rd place was not even 2.5 million, and this year i think only 2 albums have crossed the 2 mill mark

I don't believe there was any album that crossed 2 million last year until October, generally the bestsellers of 2010 have sold more than the best sellers of 2009 (as of August/September of both respective years of course)

It's just that overall sales are down, which is the big issue, there are still some albums that are getting a big number of people going to the store to buy an album.
