Kelly has never gotten a nomination in the Top 3 categories Song/Record/Album. They've never really shown her much love, would like to see that change. Would love to see that in at least one of them. Also hoping for some Lana loving. Rihanna should get some big noms!!! also as you pointed out fun could be a big contender as well.

I feel like Gotye is definitely the one to watch at this point in the year. We Are Young should definitely get some big love too.

So far this seems like a very strong year for Grammy-type singles and a weak one for Grammy-type albums. I agree that "Somebody that I Used to Know" is the album to watch for Song/Record. Some love for fun. would be fantastic.

ALBUM OF THE YEAR Top contenders here so far are Drake and The Black Keys. Coldplay, Gotye, fun. are also in the running. Upcoming releases by Norah Jones, Mumford & Sons, Taylor Swift could be contenders.
RECORD/SONG OF THE YEAR Top contenders are Set Fire To The Rain (Record only), Somebody That I Used To Know and We Are Young. If We Found Love was to be eligible, it'd be a contender as well. Same w/ Ni**as In Paris. It Will Rain, Happy Pills, Lonely Boy, Take Care should also be considered.
BEST NEW ARTIST Gotye and fun., even if they aren't technically "new". One Direction and Scotty McCreery could slip in as well.

I would love for Kelly to snag a nomination for Album of the Year, but unless "Dark Side" and ensuing singles really take off I think it's a long shot, especially considering the fact Breakaway didn't even get that recognition. I'd say:
Album of The Year Making Mirrors-- Gotye Some Nights-- fun. Take Care-- Drake
Song/Record "Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You)" -- Kelly Clarkson "We Are Young" -- fun. "Somebody I Used To Know" -- Gotye "Set Fire to the Rain" -- Adele "It Will Rain" -- Bruno Mars

"Set Fire To The Rain" isn't eligible for Song Of The Year, as "21" already won Album Of The Year. It's still eligible for Record Of The Year though.

Everything I've thought of off-hand has been mentioned already; I'd suggest Emeli SandΓ© for BNA as well (but maybe I'm just being optimistic that she'll fare well here as she has in the UK). If Kimbra can get some traction with solo singles ("Settle Down" is at AAA radio now and I imagine "Cameo Lover" will follow), she could do so as well.

I'm guessing at least two noms for John Mayer's Born and Raised related work.

So far, I'm thinking these are some top contenders.
Album of the Year fun. - Some Nights Kelly Clarkson - Stronger The Hunger Games OST (Is this actually possible?) Miranda Lambert - Four the Record Drake - Take Care
Making Mirrors isn't eligible, is it? I think it came out too early.
Song/Record of the Year fun. - We Are Young Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know Adele - Set Fire to the Rain Taylor Swift - Safe & Sound Kelly Clarkson - What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)
New Artist fun.* Gotye One Direction
* - Is fun. eligible here? Gotye would be because he had literally 0 US success prior. fun. had a top 100 album in 2009.

"Safe and Sound" is a good record, esp. it features the Civil Wars which is a critic favorite (albeit being snubbed for BNA)

Fun would be eligible. Most artists have had albums beforehand that go on to win BNA. I don't think Billboard is used as a precursor to that but either way the award goes to artist who establish mainstream audiences for the first time, something fun hasn't done before. Maybe it depends also on whether fun have submitted to being considered for Grammys in the past as well?

Definitely forgot all about Coldplay. They could be a strong contender, too, if they manage to stick it out through the rest of 2012 without getting overshadowed by potential future largescale releases by big names. I can see Taylor Swift's Hunger Games work getting a nod for the Made for TV/Movie categories (IDK what they're titled). Song and Record of the Year nods could be a stretch, but I wouldn't count Eyes Open out for Pop Vocal. It's building well enough on radio, too. Train seems to be shaping up enough for another big Pop radio hit with Drive By, so that (along with a couple other songs on their new album, which is a big step forward from their previous effort, may I add) could get them some attention in the Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo/Group/Collaboration category. They could also get a Country nod for Duo/Group/Collaboration if they do, in fact, release the Country duet off of their album to Country radio (which is looking likely). That, and Pat Monahan has a chance with Martina McBride's Marry Me release. Drifting into the Country category, I'd put premature bets that Miranda and Carrie are safe bets for the Solo Country Vocal Category (preferably Over You for Miranda and whatever Carrie releases this year that gets submitted could get the nod -- if Mama's Song could get a nod, then anything by Carrie could). As of now, I see Kelly Clarkson with locks on nods for Pop Solo Vocal Performance (more than likely for WDKY), Pop Vocal Album, either Record/Song for WDKY, and if Dark Side continues WDKY's streak of massive radio steam, I could see the album get an Album of the Year nod. Keep in mind that the past couple of years have had the stray Pop albums that weren't expected (Rihanna's Loud, Katy Perry's Teenage Dream), and since Kelly's is leagues and lightyears ahead of those, I could easily see it sneak in if the success continues.

Will- Blown Away- by Carrie Underwood meet the eligibility deadline for the Grammy awards? If it is, and it's as impressive as some people in the industry have indicated, then maybe Blown Away may be a contender for country Album and it may yield a song of the year and vocal performance of the year contender as well.. GG has already outsold OY by Miranda, but it's not all about sales, but there's a definite possibility that Carrie may have a big awards year with Blown Away.

I'm hoping for some love for Lana and Born to Die. It's possible, but I'm willing to bet that this record will be long forgotten by the time nominations roll out. Not to mention its stateside reviews haven't necessarily been kind.
