The Video of the Year nominations <<<<<<<<<
Did Beyonce and Jay Z/Kanye really need TWO each?
It is on its way to having the same amount of relevancy as the Soul Train Awards.

I think people only watch for the performances. I don't know if anyone gives a damn about the actual awards/nominees anymore.

They completely destroyed their credibility when they orchestrated last year's farce that was the tie between both of Will Smith's kids, Willow and Jaden, and I knew it was coming beforehand.
Bet the farm Willow gets another one, or at least, ties with Astro.

I don't know when Soul Train lost its relevancy, but I'm almost certain that, when Soul Train itself went off the air in 2006, it was anything goes thereafter. With Don Cornelius no longer with us to oversee the activity behind the awards show, there will be even more horseplay, to the point where it will look just as bad as when The Source front office (long-since-dismissed) fixed their awards show to give one of their own, Ray Benzino, at least one of their awards.

Soul Train Awards IMO lost its relevancy in the 90's. The BET Awards are annoying. Seriously how is Countdown one of the best videos of the year? And all the winners are so predictable. I know Beyonce will win female artist and Chris Brown will win male artist.Drake or Lil Wayne will win Male Hip Hop, Nicki Female Hip Hop. Video of the year will be a tie between Love on Top and N***** in Paris. Usher doesn't have a chance.

This list brings back memories of that In Living Color sketch where they did the Black Peoples Awards and Whoopi Goldberg was nominated five times in different roles to fill out the category of best Black Actress.

I don't watch awards like these anymore. The only awards show that seems to have any credibility nowadays is the ESPY Awards. The AMAs lost credibility somewhere around 1980.

Are these the awards that the committee organizing them has to get Aretha Franklin's approval from for the selection of the Lifetime Achievement winner and if she doesn't approve she won't attend it?

I take it you're referring to the 2002 Soul Train Lady of Soul Award for Entertainer of the Year, which they gave to Ashanti, when everyone thought she was too new to get it, with most of them clamoring for Aaliyah to get it posthumously. Or perhaps it was the 2005 award, which they gave to Amerie, though she had only her single #1 R&B hit, from an album that barely sold 300,000 copies, whereas most of the people figured either Mariah Carey or Fantasia to get it.

All the other music awards shows are irrelevant.

Usher for sure. I'm sure they've announced more, but that is all that I can remember right now.

the 90's. The BET Awards are annoying. Seriously how is Countdown one of the best videos of the year? Countdown video is EPIC. Love On Top, no so much, I don't get it's nomination. But I mean, that category is really Song Of The Year under the identity of another category. So in that sense Love On Top makes sense.

I wish they would just give Trina a damn BET Award already. She's been nominated 8 times since 2001 and never taken it home.
But Nicki will win even though the past year has pretty much seen any hip hop strangled out of her.
I only watch this to see the performances and who is in attendance.
