I really like this song. It has a nostalgic feeling yet it’s super catchy.

This song is really catchy, easily the best thing I heard from Shaboozey. Glad to see the success of a new artist.

Would love to see this go #1 on Hot 100! Catchy chorus! It's looking to move up to #2 this coming week so that is a possibility in the future. 👀 Would be cool to see this get a country radio push due to the virality of it, similar to what we are seeing with "Austin" by Dasha currently.

This definitely needs to get sent to country radio. It feels like a huge hit waiting, and I think were going to see it dominate the Hot Country Songs for a loooong time.

Debuts at #53 on Billboard Country Airplay this week with close to a million audience impressions. Definitely looking like an impending hit.

Am I the only one who has no idea who he is? Lol. Anyway, won’t be adding snap-clap heavy song to my playlist. This does absolutely nothing for me, I find it quite annoying.

This does not fit at country radio in any way. The nature of stomp and holler ("country" instruments, obvious rhythm, sing-along melody) fits mainstream country radio like the glove.

Another Black artist with a blatantly country record "not fit" for country radio? Shocking.
I know he’s independent but I do hope whatever team he’s got pushing this can help it gain some real radio traction. Let the anti-Black audience seethe.

I find it funny that they are pushing diversity in music when it isn’t country. I’m not saying there aren’t white artists that don’t sound that country (Sam Hunt, Jelly Roll,HARDY) but I think calling these claims against these new artists racist seems like a bad labelling job as this song really struck me as a pop song first time I heard it not knowing who the artist was.

I do think what is and isn't country though is very subjective. That and for me at least, regardless of how country a song is, I welcome more diversity too country music as that is inherently a good thing for country music to have more diversity and representation.

I feel like country music (as all major genres) does have many subgenres. I wouldn't mind it if they could all find a home on country radio (which is one of my major complaints regarding modern country radio, which is that a lot of the popular songs all sound pretty similar). I wouldn't mind if there was more diversity sound wise so that all of the different subgenres could find a home on country radio. Why can't we include Shaboozey, Zach Bryan, TEXAS HOLD 'EM, Tyler Childers, Sierra Ferrell & Kacey Musgraves in the same playlists as Morgan Wallen, Luke Combs and the 20 other nondescript men who constantly get #1's

Country radio has had ample opportunity to play plenty of more traditionally country songs by more traditionally country artists for literal decades, and they've missed the boat on the vast majority of them. Case in point: Mickey Guyton's entire existence. Shaboozey went viral and blew up without the need for a drop of country radio airplay, and now basically at this point their hand is forced and they have to start spinning it or risk being even more out of touch than they already are. If this were traditionally promoted to the format by an artist with no pull or buzz, they'd probably ignore it. Also, not everyone agrees with you that this reads as a pop song. I think this sounds perfectly within the confines of what current country is from a popular/radio music standpoint. This fits in between current hits by Morgan Wallen and Jelly Roll way more easily than it does between current hits from the likes of Dua Lipa and Ariana Grande.

I haven't seen "racist" thrown around yet. That said, there are people being vocal about this song, with prominent country instrumentation and elements of traditional country music, being more of a "pop song" and "unfit" for country radio; the same criticisms leveled against Beyoncé when she released her single. At the same time, there's another song by a biracial country artist with a literal EDM DJ as co-lead and producer that just pulled in almost 100 adds this week yet no one's said much of anything outside of "this sounds nice (even if it is pop)". Not to mention it's just rude to say "diversity is being pushed" by allowing space on airwaves for this music to exist as if Black artists can't organically make country music without there being an agenda behind it. No one's asking anyone to pander or virtue signal or just pretend to like something they don't but it could just be left at "I don't like it". If you take it a step further to declare it "doesn't belong" (even when the evidence supports it being more country than current songs by white artists), then calling out the unconscious (or covert) racial bias is fair game.

This for me is one of the best written pieces on the situation with regards to both this and Beyoncé's songs. Both are far from traditional country, but like drod17 's post excellently said, that doesn't mean they don't fit on country radio. If it was a station dedicated specifically to traditional sounding songs then I can see the argument that they "don't belong", still wouldn't negate them being Country songs.

That's a horrible thing to say about a vocalist that doesn't sing off-key!
Edit: Lol Trigger also said the following: "It relies more on melody than rhythm and the fiddle is welcome, even though you could never two-step to this song, only bounce around to it mindlessly like the characters in the song’s video. "
My thoughts: Fiddle?!?!!
I do like this, and agree that it fits fine on modern country radio, but let's not start making stuff up! There wasn't even a fiddle in the building when this was recorded

Wow, if that's supposed to be a fiddle, I am shook by how much it just sounds like an electric piano making an ambiguous synthesizer sound... But I apologize for my doubts if that is indeed a fiddle!

Maybe I should just keep my opinion to myself from now on. There was no intent on my end to come off as or sound racist. I never said I didn't like the song, as I actually do like it. It just doesn't fit (my opinion) on country radio at all. I'm fine with being told I'm wrong as people are entitled to their opinion. But to make me out to be racist is very uncomfortable and to be honest it's insulting.
