If I were to make a list of my favourite songs of the nineties this would be in the top five. The first single from Pulp's classic album Different Class was a #2 hit in the UK and one of the defining singles of the decade.
The single didn't have a whole lot of success elsewhere, probably because it's so British in theme. It's a witty, political, complex take on "class slumming".

I've been thinking lately that they're way better than Oasis and slightly better than Blur. I've also been thinking they would've gotten at least a couple hits on US alt radio had they broken out just a few years before this.
