So, what was that Cowboy Carter trailer doing at Stagecoach then? Just promo? An act of rebellion/defiance?

So this is absolutely in my top 10 albums of all time at this point, no contest. It’s a high possibility it settles in my top 3 or 5, but I guess I’ll let the dust settle a bit more before declaring that. I do know I have never been as infatuated with any one stretch of an album as Riiverdance through Amen. I don’t even have words for how genius I think that stretch is and how much I adore it.
Honestly, I could probably extend that to Flamenco through Amen tbh. Though sometimes YaYa is almost exhausting to listen to that I don’t listen quite as often (but it absolutely eats down and completely slays me though). I want to do a write up and ranking of the album’s songs, since I finally know what my ranking is pretty assuredly, but I’ll see when I get the energy lol.

Bey's been in Japan for awhile now. I wonder if this is just a vacay or if she's up to something.

I made a playlist of the vinyl tracklist and didn't overly miss the omissions.
Though I am still appalled someone on this forum said "Bodyguard" is too similar to Taylor's "I Can See You" and that's why it wouldn't make a good single. IMHO, "Bodyguard" is much more of an earworm than ICSY.

I've listened to it a few times but I wouldn't be able to tell you anything about "I Can See You" other than I remember liking the music video, meanwhile parts of "Bodyguard" have been stuck in my head quite a few times since its release.

IMHO, "Bodyguard" is much more of an earworm than ICSY. Lol, that was probably me. But I have come around more to it as a single since then. I have always liked it more as a song than ICSY though. I think the main things that still throw me with it being a single are the lyrics being quite a bit unruly and un-singalongy (I have listened many many times by now and still don’t have them all down). And also the awkward cut off of the second chorus from being a full chorus when there’s only 2 choruses in the song to start with. It’s rather odd. Overall, I do think I underestimated its hit potential at first, but I would never ever pick it over LJ if I were them if it was an only one more single situation.

I go back and forth between that and Tyrant pretty much every day for my favorite Bey song ever. They have both definitely usurped Virgo’s Groove, CIL, and Get Me Bodied, which were my prior contenders.

I was wondering about this and don't know where else to ask. If an artist, like Beyoncé, chooses not to do promo for an album (music videos, tv performances, radio interviews, etc) what happens to that budget? Does the label get to keep the promo budget and therefore more profit for them? Or does the artist get the money for the promo they didn't spend?

Does the label get to keep the promo budget and therefore more profit for them? Or does the artist get the money for the promo they didn't spend? It would likely be built into the initial plan, so either it’s planned that budget is minimal or it would be allotted to other types of promo that wouldn’t involve the artist - such as ads or social media pushes. If they don’t end up using all the budgeted monies for promo, it would probably just get absorbed into other projects. It wouldn’t go to the artist.

Yaaas! I LOVE the Beyonce album. Everyone's always Lemonade Lemonade Lemonade, but self-titled has always been my personal favorite! Don't get me wrong, I can see why people love Lemonade (and it will no doubt show up on the list above Beyonce), but yeah, it's nice to see it acknowledged!

It really sucks that she doesn't lift a finger to promote this great album.

I never really cared as much as Hive did about the lack of promotion and videos for Renaissance, but for this album it does feel disappointing and half-assed honestly.
I think because of the fact this was a much bigger endeavor with trying a new genre and with Country music the promotion and public visibility of the music is *imperative* in the Country industry.
I really think she should’ve been at the Country award shows, not only just because some sales boosts or format radio spins but also because it would’ve TRULY been a turning stone moment for the era. So much of this era is being emphasized on giving black artists visibility in the genre and having her be at the award shows actively being acknowledged, face to face with Country artists, and giving 10/10 legendary performances they’ve never seen would’ve been amazing. Her making the naysayers see her talent and hunger in person and not just being able to skip past her on a playlist and write her off.
Had she played her cards right the promotional aspect of the album could’ve very well been the absolute highlight of the era and a monumental role in the legacy of the era.
Also it does feel like she just ended up giving fuel to the naysayers who said “she isn’t real Country and this is her just trying on the genre as a trendy outfit”. There was a lack of effort exhibited outside the album — no music videos, no Country award show appearances, no Country radio interviews perhaps, etc. I can completely understand why a Country listener uninterested in her would continue to feel that way and not believe she took the idea of making Country music serious.

Hmm. I don’t know what to believe in that regard because I don’t know if videos or performances would have done anything to make people see her as a country artist. Let’s face it, country fans are probably the hardest to convince.
I wish there were videos too, but I can see why she just wants the music to stand for itself.

The list is crap. LEMONADE isn't even Bey's best album. But tbh the entire thing felt like it was just fishing for engagement and clicks. And they know Bey's name needed to be there.

Neither”Lemonade” or “Beyonce” are my favorite albums from her. I only was really only into a few tracks from each project unless you include the self title Platinum edition then I liked an additional 4 tracks from that.

As for Beyoncé albums that made an impact on me, they were DIL, Bday, Renaissance, and now Cowboy Carter. I went back and listened to her other albums, and they were fine and all, but I feel like the others were the most impactful to me, (obviously IA..SF and her others were successful in their own right as well, they just didn’t click with me as much).

For me, personally, Bday, 4, DIL, and BEYONCÈ made the most impact on me. They were more easier to get into. Been listening to IASF, Lemonade, and Renaissance recently, and they have grown on me a bit. I guess I couldn't get into the latter two due to the huge hype around them at that time, and I wasn't overly impressed by them at first.
