As you all know, Pulse is a very popular message board that continues to grow each and every day. There are currently more than 5000 members registered here who have contributed over 1 million posts! Unfortunately, it appears we may be growing a bit too fast.
Matt has informed me that he was recently contacted by Proboards. Apparently they are having trouble keeping up with the high demands for additional server space. Since Pulse is one of the most active message boards hosted by Proboards, they are threatening to delete this entire forum unless we can somehow find a way to decrease the posting rates. Our initial response was to delete several of Pulse's forums entirely; however, there would be no easy way to determine which forums to delete without coming across as biased to some of our members. After careful consideration, we have come up with a solution that we feel will cut down on posting while minimizing any potential member bias.
We will be deleting the 20 most active members at Pulse. These "most active members" will be defined as the first 20 members to make more than 50 posts in a 24 hour period. If you are guilty of having done this in the past, don't worry. As long as you do not do this again, you should have nothing to worry about for now.
disclaimer: this entire post may or may not be one big joke.

Well, I'm not in the least bit disappointed. Quite happy, actually.

Well, looks like I'm safe Actually, although this may also be extreme, may I suggest suspending new signups for awhile?

Oh wow. That's a shame.
I have some suggestions.
Could deleting older posts like some that were locked because they were repeats, inflammatory, spam or unnecessary help a bit? I know it's not a lot, but maybe it could help. If this were to be done, I would suggest starting in the Music News (Archive) section. It has a really significant number of posts, some of which may not be useful anymore. Keeping it for what it is as an archive would have worked better under different circumstances, but maybe it may have to be done. It would probably a really time consuming task, but done over time, it could really help.
This may be an unpopular suggestion, but for the Polling Booth section, I would suggest that posting a response for non-responsorial ones be made forbidden to minimize the number of posts that occur.
I agree about the new signups thing too. It seems a bit extreme, but if it is absolutely necessary. I know that a significant number of the members at Pulse don't post much and they just read the posts so this new situation may not apply to them directly, but if the problem could potentially elliminate Pulse, something has to be done.

How can you NOT laugh at this? What's pretty much being said here is shut up or get deleted. EDIT: Just want to say I agree about the signups thing, and in a situation like this, I don't think it is all that extreme. EDIT #2: WAIT!!! What about Reception?!?

"Deleting the most active members" means what? Your account gets deleted? or the posts? Account. If they removed the posts, some threads would be all weird.

I rarely even look at my post count, if I get in a position of having to watch my daily post count closely, I may choose not to post here anymore. Which I guess is probably the goal. I agree with this, especially if you just don't realize you are about to reach the limit and your account automatically gets deleted. I guess there won't be warnings, right?

UGH! There goes my postwhoring. This stops post whoring but also puts the brakes on being an active contributing member of this board and actually encourages people to shop for a new place to discuss music. >:( Good. Maybe it will filter some people out. :) But hopefully you stay.

This is the most ridiculous way of reducing bandwidth or whatever. We could just shut down the lounge or something, because all that stuff doesn't have to do with music, i guess. But even then, it's stupid.

I don't think it will stop the people with valid posts. Most people with valid posts tend to think before they click the "post reply" button and I'd say generally they have nothing to worry about. The ones that reply with "SMASH" and whatnot probably do. Simply put, I think in the long run this could be a good idea and a good way for people to think before they post.

Not too mention, arguments lead to a lot of posts, so this could help cut down on the fighting too. :) Which is definitely a plus. All in all, I think this is a GREAT idea! Helps limit me on some of my senseless posts. lol

It would probably make more sense to start banning certain kinds of threads, or limiting them.
For example, the gaming threads draw a lot of activity in short periods. I have fun with them, but given that our hosting company is apparently unfit (and it is, because it should always be a host's responsibility to see that they're not overextending their servers, yet so often they decide instead to allow unlimited growth for commercial reasons and then reprimand end users...), they should probably go.
I don't usually read the News & Entertainment section, but I imagine it has expendable topics.
The radio format areas shouldn't be touched. Full stop. This is a music board first and foremost. It would be a shame to lose News/Entertainment and The Lounge, as well as certain types of threads, but it does seem a better solution than arbitrary posting limits which potentially hinder discussion.

Yeah I know it's a delicate situation, I'm just saying this is my favorite website and I would hate to get banned because I know I've posted 50+ in a day before.

Seems to me that if you limit "discussion" on a "discussion board" you no longer have a discussion board. But, what do I know ??? TOTALLY agree with you. Plus, i think that simply deleting peoples' accounts , is wrong. It's kind of like "un-inviting" them because they post too much. Maybe, just a simple warning to the people who post the most in 24 hours. Worrying about my account being deleted and my chance to discuss my opinions with my peers about music being taken away every time I post is very frustrating to me. If i post my valid opinion on lots of songs (like this board is made to do), I shouldn't have my account deleted. but whatever. I'll just log off for 24 hours?

Update:
We've just finished removing the excess accounts for usernames beginning with A or B. Please note that no active users were removed; only accounts that had 0 posts, accounts that hadn't been logged into in over a year and duplicate accounts. We're hoping that deleting these accounts will at least partially solve the problem.

I have 6 just in this thread (including this one) I burned 20, posting new release data in General Music News that was intended to be informative and help people. Not to run up post count. Right there I am over half way to being banned. Couldn't you have made one post for the new releases schedule instead of making separate posts for every week/month? I think it would be easier to read that way too.

So you're gonna ban your most loyal members? That's bull, IMO. So I guess that means you consider DJ to be Pulse's most loyal member? O.o 50 posts per day is a lot, guys. I highly doubt that anyone who tops that is not doing at least a little bit of unnecessary posting. It shouldn't be that big of a deal to cut back a little to help the board.

But lets say someone does burn 50 posts in a day, but they call contribute something, I am sure the mods will be more leniant on that. :)

OK guys, think about it. If you make 50 posts a day, you average 1 post every 28 minutes. That's only if you spend 24/7 on Pulse. I would say the most loyal would spend 8 hours here. That's 1 post every 9:36. I think it can be managed.

Is there a "community chest" like option for Proboards? (Where all the member contributed a little bit to keep the board running similar to what Ezboard has?). If everyone here contributed a little bit, it shouldn't be too much.
