But it could be replaced at #1 this week by the song at #19 last week. Which would be pretty unusual to say the least.

Not too unusual. There have been multiple instances the past few years where a song was dethroned by a single that didn't even appear on the Hot 100 until it entered at #1.

^Those usually occurred back in the days of "repression" and Idol commercial singles, though (barring a couple of Britney Spears' singles, which had bubbled under the weeks before they entered on top).
It would be a little "unusual" for a single that's been on the chart for multiple weeks to just come out of "nowhere" and zip 19-1. But, that's the power of a strong performance on a high-profile show.

Didn't someone put together awhile ago a list of the biggest jumps to #1 for songs not benefitting from "repression"? I think Brandy/Monica had the biggest jump (20something-1)?

Ah, but in the past two years - Britney, Eminem, Gaga and Ke$ha have all debuted a single at #1. ;) Not to mention the singles that entered at #2 - Katy Perry and Eminem ft. Rihanna.
"Gold Digger" zipped 19-1 if I remember correctly. That was six years ago, if you can believe it.

^But of course, PTB. :) But, again, debuts- tracks benefiting from first-week sales- is another matter compared to tracks on the charts for weeks.
When "Gold Digger" jumped 19-1, was it first-week sales that propelled it? If not, what caused such a jump?

Pretty sure that GD jumped due to first-week sales, as it broke the record that week.

A song could have had good airplay but lower sales that all of a sudden spark because the video is released or a performance. Most R&B hits these days usually linger in the top 20 on the strength of airplay and then if something occurs that propel their sales, they jump.

I believe it will end up being closer between MLJ/PUK/SLY this week than people are expecting.

Well "Love In This Club" wasn't at #19, but I can recall that was a big R&B song that jumped to number one from #51 if im not mistaken, due to its spins.

Yah- no airplay gain alone has sent a track 51-1.
"The Boy is Mine" debuted at 23 because of street-date violations (No. 63 entry on Singles Sales)- and then the full week of sales sent it 23-1. When it went 23-1, it was in its 4th week on Hot 100 Airplay- so it wasn't major repression there. Billboard did note, though, that that single was sale-priced at "select accounts."

Yeah, if it wasn't for street date violations, The Boy Is Mine woud've been another one of the late 90's repressed #1 debuts
As singles sales were dying, it became a very common thing to debut near the bottom of the Hot Singles Sales chart from street date violations alone, and then jump to #1 the next week from the first full week of release.
A lot of Hot 100 number ones in 2000 were repressed, which is why there's such a high turnover that year (Bent, Everything You Want, It's Gonna Be Me, Christina's 2 songs, Say My Name, TGIFY)

I may have this wrong, but I think when Gaga moves to the top 10 with YAI, she'll have had her first 11 "official" singles hit the top 10, which would tie her with Mariah.

Apparently the Beatles' "Can't Buy Me Love" jumped 27-1. I don't think "repression" existed then so I'm going to guess that is the biggest jump to #1 that wasn't triggered by repression or street-date violations.
Otherwise I can't think of anything from outside the top ten even (although I'm sure it happened). The biggest jump I can think of recent years is Justin Timberlake's "What Goes Around" going 8-1 post-Grammys.

"I Will Always Love You" shot 12 to 1, I can't think of any other non-repressed jump to number 1 from outside the top 10 though
Edit: yup, did some digging, Whitney was the last person to shoot from outside the top 10 straight to #1, without the aid of repression. So it hasn't happened since 1992..
Also, hadn't realized that only 2 songs (What's My Name & Break Your Heart) have been repressed to get big jumps to #1 since Boom Boom Pow :o

If this single isn't going to reach #1, then I would like for it to peak @ #4. So she'll have placed at least one single in each of the #1-6 positions.

^^That's fun also, not many artists can peak in every position in the Top 10, if I'm not mistaken Madonna has and she even has peaks at like #11-#14, but missing one in there. I'm sure Holidayguy knows. :)
