These are just small awards that no one really ever pays attention to, lol. I wouldn't get too worked up about who wins what here. It's just ridiculous that, of all people to honor for what that award represents, they chose Blake Shelton. "The Gene Weed Special Achievement Award acknowledges unprecedented, unique and outstanding individual achievement in country music." ...so joining The Voice and creating camaraderie with 3 pop stars is what earns people awards? Shouldn't Keith Urban get that award, too, since he's now besties with Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey? The reasoning behind awarding him this...honor (?) seems pretty senseless, especially since he'll be joining the ranks of past honorees George Strait, Garth Brooks, and Willie Nelson. I would love to been a fly on the wall when Eric Church heard about this...

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this yet. But I was just watching GAC Headline Country and Luke Bryan said that he would be performing his new single on the show.

Luke said it's out to radio on April 1st, so it's only 8 days away!!! Any idea the name of the new song? Uptempo or ballad?
It seems odd that release date is only a week away yet everything's so secretive. I expected a song clip leak by now.

I could name at LEAST half a dozen artists (or more), who fit this criteria, and there are MANY more who surpass it by miles. Just another example of the industry trying to convince fans that Blake is the king of country music, when he has done nothing to deserve it.
Does the industry actually think fans are stupid enough to believe Blake has actually earned this? Ugh.

Blake has done things that fit for that award. Not even counting his hit songs, he is a judge on a hugely popular show. He had his on Christmas Special on Network TV in Prime Time, he hosts a country award show, he toured and has sold a decent amount of albums. Of course there are other artists who who could have received this. But I am guessing they give this award out yearly (correct me if I'm wrong) so the same people can't get it year after year.

I see Blake Shelton getting all the love here at the Country Forum since my last post in this thread!

I think award shows go through phases, where the same people will win the same awards for years, even they don't neccesarily deserve them. Check out the award show's histories and you'll see. Eventually, Blake and Miranda won't win as much, they will be replaced b someine else and the cycle will continue.

Oh, I agree completely, but their reign of seeming "terror" at this point has been on the run since ~the 2010 ACMs in April, and it's now 2013. This is definitely one of the longer streaks I've seen, running on 4 years. Miranda Lambert potentially winning her fourth ACM Female Vocalist of the Year award this year puts her at the same level as Loretta Lynn, only trailing behind Reba to be considered the greatest female vocalist in accordance to the ACMs. That would rank her ahead of Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood, Carrie Underwood, and Faith Hill -- four of Country's premier vocalists, far and away superior to Lambert. It's just a bit silly how these "flavor of the moment" runs last for so long. This one seems way too sketchy (backdoor politics, to be more upfront), though, to seem like a "phase" because of how the nominations have continuously gone in terms of direction (many more snubs in the past 3-4 years at these shows than virtually ever before).

I completely understand. Miranda should not, in my opinion, have won three FVOY awards especially in a row, but unfortunately she has. Although, this year it seems undisputable that Carrie will win this year, at least I hope so.

I visit this board almost every day for updates but I never felt the need to comment on anything until now. I honestly don't understand why people here are so resentful of Miranda winning awards. I mean if you don't like her music, or you don't like that she's changed her sound a bit then that's understandable, but to hate on her for winning awards? It's not like she's nominating herself or telling the voters to snub other artists. What is she supposed to do? Tell them, "No I don't want your stupid awards"? In fact she's said multiple times that she's ready to pass on the female vocalist torch.

In fact she's said multiple times that she's ready to pass on the female vocalist torch. First off -- welcome! Secondly -- I'm not opposed to Miranda winning awards or being nomination for awards that she deserves, but the backdoor politics that have been rumored to be occurring at these shows become more and more evident to seem true. Miranda and Blake have undoubtedly become the "it" couple of the genre and, arguably, one of the biggest in the music industry as a whole in today's age, but it seems as though that's becoming an excuse for them to receive honors in pairing with their marital stature. Miranda deserved every bit of breakthrough success she worked so hard to get with "The House That Built Me" and her incredible Revolution era, but to say that she's deserved several Entertainer of the Year nominations (over the likes of Kenny Chesney, Carrie Underwood, and other different megastars in the format) and several consecutive Female Vocalist awards over the likes of Carrie Underwood (specifically 2010 and 2012), whom which has consistently seen more success than Lambert in all rounds -- sales, touring, charting statistics, etc. -- is what pushes all of this to become nonsensical. I adore Miranda Lambert and her music, but it's getting to the stage where I'm tired of her and her cliché hubby receiving the honors over far more deserving songs, albums, and artists. Not only that, but seeing as how long this has lasted -- again, nearly four years running now -- shows that it may not just be "Miranda and Blake earning and deserving it!!!", because (and I'm not trying to make this into a comparison battle between the two ladies) if we were going off of who deserves to take home some trophies this year, Carrie Underwood and Eric Church would each be taking home multiple accolades on April 7th. Seeing as it's been virtually the same nominees in the Entertainer category for the past few years, it definitely doesn't indicate that everything is all fair & even behind the scenes, especially when we all see it working positively for Lambert, Shelton, & Co. and negatively for Underwood, Chesney, Other More Deserving Artists, & Co. Again -- I love Miranda Lambert's music. I adore it, actually. She's put out some of the best Country albums of the last few years, in my opinion. However, that really shouldn't, but unfortunately does, translate to massive accolades over even more deserving material and/or artists on the format.

^^ Thanks 14887fan. :) Thank you for clearing that up! I didn't mean to stir up any trouble. I just had to say something because I felt like people on here criticize Blake and Miranda every chance they get. It's good to know you actually like her, and to be honest this year I'm just hoping she wins Song of the Year and that she passes the torch on to Kacey.

I'm on board with all that has been said. If only Carrie had married a country star rather than a hockey player then there could be a duel.

And although I think it'll be too soon for Kacey to win the FVOTY trophy at the ACMs this year, if she got a nomination for FVOTY at the CMAs in November, I could definitely see her winning. She's a breath of fresh air in the genre and I can't wait to see how big she gets.

I think the real problem is Blake Shelton moreso than it is Miranda Lambert. She was getting showered with quite a bit of critical praise before she even had the radio support to show for it (though her sales were solid even for her debut record which only produced one Top 20 hit), and if anything, Blake Shelton seems to have benefitted from that association with Lambert on the critical front, because he'd already had several No. 1 hits in his career before Miranda even came into the picture. The problem is she's (mostly) deserving of her awards, whereas I think most agree that Blake is really putting out incredibly subpar material for someone of his stature, especially given his personality and some of his quality pre-superstar fare. It's a shame that stigma seems to spill over onto Miranda as well, and it's unfortunate that some people do seem to show some resentment towards Miranda for things beyond her control. (And I like what you said loomz92 about how she herself even seems to be tired of winning based on some of her acceptance speeches.)

Honestly, I think that Kacey is a while away from winning FVOTY. The genre is just too reluctant, in my opinion, to except a new female artist. And I would rather see Jana Kramer be nominated in the FVOTY category, truthfully.

I predict that on April 1st which is also April Fools Day he will announce that he isn't really releasing a new song on that day. We will have to wait until the ACMs on the 7th to hear it.

I'm not surprised at all that we haven't heard anything about Luke's new single. Remember "Honey Bee" 2 years ago? I think we found out the title but we didn't have anything else on it until Blake performed it. The same thing happened with "Feel Like A Rock Star" last year.
At the most, I'd expect some sort of announcement from Luke (saying he'll perform a brand new song) and maybe the title, but nothing else. Maybe it will indeed go to radio on the 1st but I could see them waiting until after the ACM's too. Luke performs it and then they drop it to radio immediately after.

Did I detect a bit of passive aggressiveness from Blake there? Luke is BFFs with the likes of Eric Church and Jason Aldean, so I don't think "Bluke" really share the same circle of friends. I get the sense Blake is mildly annoyed the ACMs picked someone that's kinda the younger/fresh-er version of himself.
In any case, I will have my popcorn ready on 4/7 to see how this odd-ball pairing will unfold. It could be a huge comedic success or a complete trainwreck.

I get the sense Blake is mildly annoyed the ACMs picked someone that's kinda the younger/fresh-er version of himself. It's schtick from Blake, one that started back when teasers about the new ACM co-host started surfacing. And I think the dynamic where the guys rag on each other like goofy, egotistical self-deluders works well in the promos. Whether it translates past the promos to the ACM Awards show remains to be seen, and I'm not denying the possibility of competitive resentment on each side. But I really don't think that the passive-aggression you're noticing in the clips is evidence of actual annoyance. It's pretty clear here that it is being played for laughs.

I saw an ad asking people to vote for Taylor for Entertainer of the year on VH1 this morning haha Solidifying why the CMA Entertainer of the Year Award is about a thousand times more prestigious than the ACM one. If it's the biggest award of the night, it shouldn't be on the same level as the Best New Artist award. Keep it industry voted.
