Haus, you're free to form whatever opinion of me you like, I'm not sure if you're trying to bully me out of this board or something, but I regret to inform you that I'm not particularly interested in what you think of me! If you wanna get personal, it'll be at your expense, I'm not taking the bait.

Some fans may take things a little too personally- no need for anyone to get into a tizzy. We all should be capable of keeping things to a mature discussion.

The bottom line is we all have our opinions on the redemption and many other sales tactics artist uses. But at the end of the day we nor the artist make the rules and that is that. So no one can cheat the charts because cheating means your not playing within the set rules for something.

^Euliss, you edited your whole post there There's no illusion necessary- she's managed to maintain an impressive level of commercial relevancy for an act who debuted in 1982. The power of Her Madgesty. :'( I hope BB does report on the percentages, because I doubt the album redemptions comprise an overwhelming majority of sales. So what's your point? Am I wrong some how? No one had responded or quoted me when I changed my post. I think the best idea is this: All is fair in marketing your music. Is there a disagreement with that? If not, lets move on to something else shall we.

Haus, you're free to form whatever opinion of me you like, I'm not sure if you're trying to bully me out of this board or something, but I regret to inform you that I'm not particularly interested in what you think of me! If you wanna get personal, it'll be at your expense, I'm not taking the bait. I didn't call you a loser, closeyoureyes, I was referring to the people you were referring to, ie. "stans" of singers who come here to defend "their favs" from Billboard's wrongdoings. I just get aggravated at the type of comments people throw out there because of how they feel about the singers involved despite their complete lack of objectivity. As I said a page or two back, if you replace "Madonna" in this situation with ANY other artist, someone you like, don't like, know or don't know, and still feel the same way about the situation, then sure. Go ahead. But as you yourself have said, if you're only interested in this because it's Madonna, then maybe you should back out. I also hate when people accuse other posters of not caring if "their favs" were the ones involved. Personally, I think MusicSTFan has provided a good and consistent argument for why his opinions are the way they are and people continue to discount them and say "well if it was Shania Twain in this position, you'd feel differently." How do you know? Also consider the fact that he HIMSELF said that if it were Shania, he'd still feel the same way. It's completely disrespectful to him to make that accusation based on absolutely nothing other than your own defences. And I don't even agree with him on this. If people seriously can't have a discussion or debate without throwing out a stupid comment like that, they shouldn't be having one at all. I apologize if I myself come off as being unnecessarily defensive or rude. I didn't intent to be at all but sometimes some comments get me all riled up. This message board isn't the epitome of good manners and highly articulate people but that doesn't mean it has to be "stan vs. stan until the very end" either.

I can't remember the last time any thread was this bad, so the 'typical Pulse' comments are actually rubbing me the wrong way. Don't start arguments and blame it on Pulse having a bad reputation.

I really don't know what to say except life goes on. I love a debate but this seems to be going around in circles. I'm dizzy.

I'm sure that if Shania Twain does this with her new album, MusicSTFan would have no problem with it. Ok. That was completely uncalled for areyoureadytojump. I have already addressed the Shania Twain scenario regarding all of this many times before - long before anyone brought it up. In addition, I spoke of fairness to "ALL" artists. If you failed to read what I said about it, here are some direct links: Post # 276, Post # 283, Post # 293, Post # 361, and Post # 364. Please read them. I stand by what I said 100%. Just because you don't agree with what I say, that doesn't give you the right to question my fairness about that Shania scenario when I have expressed nothing but fairness in relation to ALL artists in this thread. In addition, I have been here since 2004 and was a member of the Radio & Records board years ago. I post many things completely unrelated to Shania, including Sports News and regular (and unusual) news items. I avoid the 'diva wars' and I am not some 'stan' traveling around starting cr@p. Do not a$$ume anything about me.

The last few times it was this bad were during the weeks when Blackout didn't get the number one debut behind The Eagles, when Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel debuted at number 3, and when Born This Way got that Amazon promotion last year.

The best thing about this thread is how well everybody on both sides is coming off. So much new found respect for all of you! I know. That closeyoureyes guy is really pissing me off, but aren't administrators supposed to act civil?

If this is really such a serious issue, take it up with Billboard and Soundscan and write them about it.

I am a prince fan but most prince fans dont care to include the giveaways as sales and consider them with a grain of salt and consider the whole episode as a complete joke and quite frankly embarrassing but on the other hand u have madonna fans who r so obsessed with chart numbers and positions. And want to include sales which have not been earned.

For those who are really taking issue with it, will Madonna spending a single week at number one on the Billboard 200 really ruin your life? It's one week out of 52 in this year. Just one week. 7 days. Really?

LOL @ this thread.
For what it's worth, I'm not a Lionel fan and I'm not a Madonna fan. The voucher things contributing to sales don't bother me all that much. If people like Madonna enough to spend their money on her concert tickets, good chance they'd have purchased her album anyway... so it's more like a redistribution of numbers than an inflation.
Having said that, I'm assuming the weekly sales number counts redeemed vouchers only and not every voucher code handed out (aka every ticket doubling as an album sale). Or do I have that wrong?

If this is really such a serious issue, take it up with Billboard and Soundscan and write them about it. If this is really such a serious issue for us, we should take a step back and consider ourselves fortunate to be so blessed in life.

Madonna and her team are smart as fuck. If Keri Hilson and Cisus can give their albums away at Wet Seal and KFC, why can't Vadge get some action too? Get money, bitch.

Madonna and her team are smart as f**k. If Keri Hilson and Cisus can give their albums away at Wet Seal and KFC, why can't Vadge get some action too? Get money, bitch. Its actually prince who started this idea and it was his own idea he talked about it 5-10yrs b4 it even happened. But his intentions were that music could be heard by a wider section of his fan base.but when his team presented the idea to billboard they agreed to count them. Billboard didnt realize that tour would be so massive and be attended by more then a million ppl. His album remained in the top 5 for nearly 7 months back in 2004 He repeated it in the UK where he had 21 sold out shows at the 20,000 capacity 02 arena but uk charts didnt count the albums as sales and for a good reason. Then he gave away 3million albums in a uk paper those didnt count either. Of course there is big demand for prince shows but not so much for the new material and thats true with any veteran today

Nothing is stolen. Billboard makes the rules not Prince, Madonna or any of us. Whatever is done to market ones album within the rules of the charts are fair to me. I do not care if it is Lady Gaga, Madonna or Prince or anything else for that matter.
If Lionel Richie was gearing up for a tour and was doing a redemption for tickets purchased then I would be okay with it as well ,even if it blocked Madonna. I would think maybe she should have done the same thing.

Thanks for clearing that up Max.
Anyway, since the tide is clearly turning against me, I'll say this: I wasn't trying to piss anyone off or even comment on anyone directly (although asg4 definitely was getting tiresome, but I wasn't the only one who pointed that out) - is it so wrong to defend the person you're a fan of? Granted this situation isn't all that serious but you're all acting as though I insulted your grandmother. I didn't think it was all that fair how toward the beginning of this thread, it seemed like it was a game of who could make Madonna fans look the worst. Now here we are acting as though this entire fight started and ended with me. I guess there had to be some tangible blame to throw around. Whatever, I'll leave it be. lol
