I'm more excited than I'd think I would be!
I enjoyed their last album. It was perhaps their best since Spiritual Machines, which is my favourite OLP record.

I officially need to change my pants. . :) I wouldn't go that far, but I can't help but admit that I'm really really really looking forward to hearing this once I get home from work later.

I take back my statement. OLP should sell their new album with a new pair of pants. That was goooood!

This was an awesome treat last night. Looking forward to catching them again on NYE for a free show. They probably won't play this and stick to the big hits since it's free but still...moar OLP goodness.

Heavyweight is soooo good live. So happy they did this and I got to record it. (Shaky video is shaky.)

You were at the New Year's bash? Did you get to be on television you think?

Also I hope this gets an adds date soon in the US. It's already starting to smash on Canadian rock radio.

You were at the New Year's bash? Did you get to be on television you think? I was. Not entirely sure if I was on tv. Long story short, the friends I was going with screwed up so I didn't have a ride home so I started walking after OLP's set. I was more or less left side rail so I might have been on tv during OLP's and the Sheepdogs' set? A camera was pointed at my face a couple of times.

That sounded absolutely amazing Em! Excellent video. Not shaky at all. I'm so freaking jealous that you got to see that performance. I'm really hoping that this gets some recognition here in the States. The last single to reach the Top 30 was "Where Are You?" six years ago :(

But they did earn two Top 40's on their last album, unlike the album before that, in which only "Where Are You?" charted.

"Angels Losing Sleep" is criminally underrated. Jus' sayin'.

Last week, I made a playlist of OLP songs from their entire discography, more than 30 songs and I tried to figure out what makes their earlier songs superior to the latter ones and I think I figured it out and it does lie in the production. I think Burn Burn was the best album since Spiritual Machines but they seem to have the production toned down a bit. In their older stuff, the drums were always front and centre and the guitars were more crunchy with plenty of riffs that do lack on the later songs.
With that said, I have grown to love Heavyweight and I do get Naveed vibes from it when I listen. It even has that quieter mid-section after the second chorus which I think would be suitable for them in concert where Raine likes to use that opportunity to climb the side of the stage or chat with the audience or whatever. I can't wait for this album!
EDIT: I am disappointed that the cover doesn't follow the same theme that every other (save for Gravity) followed. Although I read last year that they don't know what happened to the guy that's been on every cover since Healthy In Paranoid Times though they did try to capture the same idea for the Burn Burn cover.

Strange. I couldn't dig up anything on Saul. Either way, seeing them in Toronto on album release date. Wooooo! /jerkface

When a Rock or Alternative band has a crossover pop hit, you just never know what they will do in the aftermath. Will they work the rest of their careers to re-create that hit, will they try to start making "pop" music? Will they lose their rock or alt cred and drop from the scene altogether?
It's refreshing to see a group capitalize with it and use it just help fund themselves to make good music. It's rare to see that. It seems that OLP has done a nice job of just making fresh, solid music. I like that.

Yeah, there was a quote from an article I read recently that was just awesome, "Jason and I had a very frank discussion about the early recordings of Curve before he came in," says Maida. "He asked why we weren't making a record that we'd like to listen to ourselves. That was our impetus for abandoning what we started, bringing in Jason and truly challenging ourselves to come up with something more authentic and inspired. He helped us operate without the filter predicated by walking the major label tightrope."

It's too bad they aren't pushing this in the US though. Maybe they'll do some sort of "Canada-crossover" attempt with it. ???

Too bad, I like it.
Of course to put it in perspective, I really like Sponge's indie efforts too.
