With a whopping +57 spins over 17 stations and its huge digital debuts, this looks to be next for radio.
Anyone heard this yet? I'm still trying to see the fascination from the popheads and general public (and amazingly the Alternative PDs) over Fun., but I still can't see it.

This seems like a multi-format #1 song, a sing-a-long bar song. I'm not shocked at all by the success at Fun., it's a different sound. Holy hell have you listened to Top 40 lately? 30-35 of the songs on there sounds like you are at a rave. There is really no difference between Hip Hop or Pop, it's all radio-friendly rave music, with Adele having nothing to put out there, they are willing to play anything that doesn't sound like that just for a variety of change. I'm pretty sure that's why Train is having so much success over there as well.

I don't really get it either. "Some Nights" got on my nerves really fast (and apparently other listeners' nerves as well judging by the fast drop). "We Are Young" isn't bad, but still sounds like more of a pop record to me. I suppose i'll give their next single a chance, but at this rate I'm expecting them to go the way of bands like Sugar Ray, Good Charlotte, and Panic! At The Disco on this format.

This is being used in ads for TLC's new show Breaking Amish.

This would have been my next choice also. I like it and will be a hit.

I think the Panic At The Disco mention seems relevant. Fun. does remind me of the singles I heard from that band. I still think this will be remembered as an embarrassing era for Alternative radio years down the road with all of these non-alt songs having success.

Other than the fun. singles, I don't think there have been any glaringly "non-alt" songs recently. Maybe Neon Trees and "Tongue Tied" are pushing it a little, but that's about it. I would argue that there were more "non-alt" songs on the chart at any point in the 2000's than there have been in the last year or two.
By the way, having listened to this one now... eh, it started off with some promise, but gradually started to display the same qualities that turned me off from "Some Nights". Somehow I get the feeling that listeners (at least on Alternative) are going to decide they've had enough of this sound, and the song will fizzle out somewhere in the 11-20 range. Admittedly that might be a bit of wishful thinking on my part, but "Some Nights" did fall very fast after peaking, and on my local station's page there have probably more complaints about this band than anything else they play.

but "Some Nights" did fall very fast after peaking That's twice you've said that. Please explain to me what you are referring to with this sudden falloff that you perceive. It reached #1 on the 08/05/2012 MB chart and a month later it is still #2.

I think Some Nights sounds completely different than We Are Young or Carry On. Carry On sounds very Billy Joel to me, personally, I think this song would have been a hit even without the success of the other two.

I still think this will be remembered as an embarrassing era for Alternative radio years down the road with all of these non-alt songs having success. Only for you. I think they sound odd next to other more traditional alternative sounding songs by acts like Garbage or Incubus but I don't see any reason why they'd be less legitimate for the format than some of the lighter stuff from the mid-90s. The only real thing this time being that they're also getting significant mainstream attention as well.

This was the obvious single choice, and I believe it will do well. I'm not too much of a fan of it, although I haven't listened to it in a while.

While fun. may fall into obscurity quickly like many bands, it's worth saying they already achieved more success than most of them in this format, so that may be a good indicator of their future in Alternative radio. Having two numbers #1s in Alternative is huge, particularly when they are also doing great in CHR/Pop and Hot AC. I'd compare their achievements to those of Sugar Ray at the moment, but I think fun. will surpass them, since I don't see the Indie / Electronic music trend going away anytime soon.

Or maybe what happened to Cage The Elephant who stormed out of the gate with a few #1s. They can't seem to get close to that anymore.

It's weird for me that that band got three number ones considering they are far from huge. I mean there's so many Alternative radio friendly bands that sell more albums and singles and still don't even get half of their airplay.

I always found it strange that band had as many or nearly as many #1s as Pearl Jam, Beck, Incubus, etc.

Well, it's song on the Fueled by Ramen YT channel has close to 2.5 million views. I've heard this song in some commercial for a show. I do think this song has a chance at being the 3rd top 10 crossover for fun.
I do think this will hit #1 on Alternative.. top 5 at the least.

I really don't see this doing too well like their previous 2 singles. I still think 'All Alright' would've been the better choice, but this was chosen. Hopefully this exceeds my expectations & help the album scan platinum.

Even though its a bonus track, Out on the Town is a big hit waiting to happen on other formats.
